In the Anglo Catholic tradition I was taught to recite the angelus with the opening refrain “The Angel of the Lord brought glad tidings to Mary”! I have always maintained that custom for last 30 years now as a catholic priest. Does that seem appropriate or is it like saying that the pre incarnate Christ suggested the plan to his own mother?

I love the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, but it's biggest flaw in my opinion is not interpreting the Angel of the Lord as Christ. It doesn't even mention that view.

If they confirm the two nature of christ in one person, then the Son as the messenger in the old testament should be no different
