I live in Switzerland, and we once had a german guest with whom we walked up a small (not even a hill) hump (about 200m high) and were able to see across multiple villages. He thought that was really high. When looking across the valley we were able to see a slightly higher hill (about 500m high), he called the other hill an enormous mountain.... We just laughed.
When a train is 3 minutes late, you might miss your next connection, because public transport here, especially in crowded regions, has quite streamlined time tables that allow for people to change between lines without excessive delay.
The main difference between Standard & Swiss German is the spelling (e.g. Most Swiss-German schools do not teach children to spell with ß). In the UK, the timetable is defined as showing the time when the train is meant to start moving. A train being "delayed" is defined as it not having passed the previous signal within the allotted minute, & "late" is 10 minutes later. This means that a 12:00 train will be delayed after 12:00:59.9̇̇ & late after 12:10:59.9̇̇ There are also the Central & West African CFA Francs.
ccityplanner12 not really, do you mean the swiss standard german? That's the written language in Switzerland, which is without ß for example. But Swiss german is the name of our local dialects, which are quite different from standard german. So we have for example just one past tense (instead of three in standard german), no future tense (two in standard) and for the "ch" we use a sound which is just used in swissgerman, dutch, hebrew and arab (not in standard german). Most germans aren't able to understand our dialects. Examples: Swiss german (I use the version spoken in zurich): Wonich im Zoo gsi bin, hanni en Leu gseh. Standard german: Als ich im Zoo war, habe ich einen Löwen gesehen. English: When I was in the zoo, I've seen a Lion. Swiss german: Im Chindsgi hanni no kei Ufzgi übercho. German: Im Kindergarten habe ich noch keine Hausaufgaben bekommen. English: In the kindergarten I haven't got homework. Swiss german: Müsli und Müesli isch nöd s'gliich. German: Mäuschen und Müsli ist nicht das gleiche. English: Little mouse and muesli isn't the same.
There's 14 African countries that use CFA franc (west and central) 100 CFA = 1 former French franc there's also comorian franc there's also burundian franc Congolese franc (DRC) the republic use central CFA, Djiboutian franc, there's guinean franc, Rwandan franc, also CFP franc in French Polynesia, New Caledonia & Wallis and futuna

In Norway in january/february of 2017 we started with a 10% absence limit at middle/secondary school and high school. It goes like this, if you get more than 10% absence in let's say maths or social science then you won't get a grading for the given subject. Was wondering if you have something similar in Switzerland?
Norwegian school is revolutionary. If you get boared...it's the teachers fault for not making things interesting. If you don't like maths...ok you don't do math. You do something else that you like. We don't all have to be mathematicians. It's a very forward way of thinking and encuraging people to follow their own passions and devellop their tallents instead of making robots. BTW: I am Romanian...not Norwegian...and sadly the schools in my country just makes robots like most of the other schools around the world.
Manuel 76 Switzerland is a stupid country where the idiots of natives think that every obvious thing is considered to be a wonder. Show a hospital to a swiss and he will stay with an open mouth.
In Switzerland 3 minutes late is as bad as 1hour late. If you meet someone at the trainstation where you arrive, and the train is 3 minutes delayed, you will most certainly excuse yourself for being late, even tough it's just 3 minutes and it wasn't your fault.
Yeah, being on time means that you will be there 5min early but at the same time you don't want to be too early since that is impolite too, so you will awkwardly wait outside... And yes, being late is considered very rude (1 to 5 min late is just "normal" rude)
The other way 'round, actually. Dutch is a kind of Low German, while "Schwiizerdütsch" is part of the "Allemannic" southern German "dialects", which are descended from Middle High German. Depending on which linguist you ask, it would either be classified as a dialect of Modern High German or as its own language (due to even the grammar being different and having its own innovations). Most people will call it a dialect though, for political reasons and because there is no Standard Swiss German (noone would accept any proposed standard anyway: people like their individual dialects too much to accept another canton's dialect as the standard)
7:04 Other francs are: Burundi franc, Congolese franc, Comorian franc, Djiboutian franc, Guinean franc, Rwandan Franc. And the two interesting ones the West African Franc and the Central African franc which are currencies union between countries from the ex-french colonies of the same name.
your right as was the DRC, but the reason why Belgium dropped the Austrian Netherlands kronenthaler was due to the french invading in 1794. Change the currency to the french franc. Then after Belgium independence, they kept the franc name in their own currency. But yes the Belgium congo was later. Plus the french colonies I was talking about was French West Africa and French central Africa
