If they rebuild, I hope they learn from the pizza oven - the only thing to survive unscathed. There *have* to be better ways to build for the bush. Steel frames + "50 Foilboard" + Colorbond, straw bales, rammed earth + double paned windows with thermal break. If the embers can't get in, and the heat/fire outside can't burn or break cladding or windows, it's a safe house.

Some towns were even told they needed to boil their water before drinking it as the water reserves were becoming contaminated due to all the ash, retardant dropped from planes etc.. and since there was no power across the south coast for days on end it kind of made it hard to be boiling water... let alone the thousands of people at evacuation centers and stranded on beaches with no option other than bottled water

    2. Local quick response: gather all australian firemen and cut borders for the fires
    3. Use the water of lakes and pump it near the borders (what about seawater?)
    4. Implement a future pipeline system to supply the region directly with water (there are big pipelines for oil so build some for water)
    5. Rethink the political strategy regarding sustainability: all sectors -> Profit or life?

C7 can you please get some reporters up to report on the Batlow situation. They have totally evacuated the town now and say it is unable to be defended so the little town I love so much may just..... go.... so it may be an idea to go to Wagga and report from there where many of the residents have fled to. Wagga locals have opened their homes to the many displaced people. We are waiting to see how the winds go today. But reporting from our area is non existent..... thank you

Houses completely wrecked and trees beside still green. How do you explain that?

    • @LilacDaisy2
      @LilacDaisy2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Ember storms! They fly in through little cracks in the eaves, etc, and build up around combustible materials till they're hot enough to catch fire. It's why it should be mandatory for bush houses to be built from non-combustible materials and be 100% sealed. But they'll rebuild the same as they always do, with "regular" methods. Insanity.

@@helenegan1079 :-) well yeah a moat was a bit of a joke but the idea was to have a fire break at set intervals so the fire can not spread. I would think it would be better to do this no matter the cost than to have the mess that has happened.

Look up "Ash Wednesday" - it's happened before, and it'll happen again. It's the dry Aussie bush. The aboriginals knew how badly it burns, so they used controlling methods in cool/wet periods. And people still build city type houses. It should be mandatory for bush houses to be made of non-combustible materials, have toughened glass and be 100% sealed, so embers can not get in.

It is so heartbreaking to see so much suffering and so much loss. One thing I can't understand: how are the houses burned to ashes while trees next to them are full of leaves?
It looks very similar to what we have in California (US) and local people state that electric companies are causing these fires to buildings, all by design.

Our fires are the worse the world has seen ever,, size and heat 50m tall flames burning white hot.
I take my hat off to the 10,000 firefighters , pilots/waterbombers rescue workers, Army, Navy, police, Animal rescue workers 500million animals predicted lost,
    Volunteers helping the homeless.
Needforfeed FB page transporting feed to help live stock through dangerous conditions.
We had bad fires 6 years ago 200 homes lost this will be over 2000 homes.
    So heartbreaking .
Time for change fuel reduction forest burning needs to start this winter we've had 20 years of fuel sitting in alot of areas.
    Praying for rain.
