  • In this video in Hindi we discussed how surface tension of a liquid is determined by Jaeger's method. This method is based on the principle that the excess pressure inside an air bubble is equal to the twice of the surface tension of the liquid in which the bubble forms over the radius of the air bubble. The apparatus, we use in this experiment, consists of a Woulf's bottle, a thistle funnel, a pipe, a capillary tube, a manometer, and a container full of the liquid containing the liquid whose surface tension we are going to evaluate.
Click to watch the video on why the excess of pressure inside an air bubble is 2T/r :

Why capillary tube is taken to form the bubble? Can we take any tube of greater radius than capillary tube as a replacement? Please reply sir

Why do we need a liquid of higher density in the manometer if the liquid in the container with the capillary has a greater surface tension?
