Just a tip for a perfectly risen chocolate cake: while the oven is preheating, refrigerate the cake (hopefully at least 15 minutes). Then place it in the oven straight from the fridge. The difference in temperatures will help the cake rise. For a perfectly cracked top, make a shallow cut with a butterknife. Happy baking!
