I am an Ivy League graduate and the only thing I got 100% is student loans.
☠️
Have fun paying them off!
😂
I feel like the robot twist would be a bigger twist if the trailers didn’t give it away so fast
I went with a friend who had no idea and gasped with the twist, I wish I didn't know it because of the ads. It really ruined it. I just started a show 'Paradise' that absolutely had a massive twist and the people who made it gave no hints to it whatsoever. It made me so happy to be surprised for once. Good show so far, I recommend it too.
Yeah, the first teaser trailer was actually very well done. And I don’t think the second trailer was necessary at all.
Your kitty for sure wanted to be part of the review, right meow! So adorable 😺
Ex Machina is still to this day the best “AI Companion Gone Rogue” movie tbh
Agreed.
The cat sitting on your shoulder like a parrot took me out 😂 so cute
I want a compilation video of Joseph saying “Directorial debut”. Idk why but I get a kick out of it every time. The way you say it, it sounds like a form of congrats before throwing some shade 😂
Awww.....the cat is all over Joseph. 😺 🥰
Awe more kitty ❤❤❤❤😊
Speaking of companion as kitty sits on J shoulder 😂❤
I love it when she makes a guest star appearance.
Love
i would be too lmfaooo😂
I just adore you two. Watching you helped me through the worst broken heart of my life. Please stay awesome and stay safe in this dog kaka world. ❤
I really liked it, I took it as having themes of our society with wanting everything catered/fine tuned to meet our needs, (like using AI to create anything you want, technology evolving, and with it, greed) and blurring the lines between having a relationship & having a slave. I thought it was a smart movie
It also sounds like the Jack Quaid character is like any user who sees people as toys/objects to get what he wants. I wonder, for him, if it mattered that Iris was a robot or human. It's funny that even a robot programmed to like him STILL left him!
But the movie doesn't really answer the question why wanting things fined tuned to your needs is a bad thing. In this case it was because he wanted to have someone murdered for money (an evil as old as time.) As for the abusive aspects of the relationship that line is also blurred because it's AI.
It was too obvious, like make people think a little! Give us something lol
I notice Jack Quaid loves starring in sadastic roles while his famous mom Meg Ryan was known for being in romcoms "The Queen Of Romcoms" and his dad Dennis Quaid does a mix of films.
There’s one scene in this movie where he looks exactly like his father. It’s almost uncanny
Ok so he is their son! I was wondering. I’ve only seen him in scream so he def likes horror. And same with Sophie thatcher
He definitely channels his dad Dennis. Remember Intruder?
@ Yes! And Sophie Thatcher is the next IT girl. I adore her
@ yes I love her and excited to see what else she has coming 🙌🏽
Omg the cat thing making my day lol.
I don't get why iris don't have the foresight about the car voice activation when her intelligence is at 100
I think you guys are forgetting this is like an encyclopedia robot not downloading constantly from the internet. her intelligence is only as good as with the current information she has in her system. they would definitely charge extra to have her connected to the internet 24/7 and Josh is cheap and doesn't read the user agreement. probably only has limited apis to get stuff like weather
I’ve been waiting for this one!😁
This is the only way I like to watch movies - vicariously through you guys!! ❤❤❤
Loved the unintentional guest. Beautiful sphinx!❤😂
You guys missed a major part of the film in the very beginning. Josh skims through the User Agreement instead of actually reading through everything. Had he done so, he'd have known more about Iris' true capabilities. Instead, he was too fixated on using her as a fuck toy and that turned out to be his ultimate undoing in the end.
Aggy! You know I love a cat cameo! That is so cute she showed up when she heard the word love
The cat in the thumbnail took me out. I just noticed her & I’ve seen the thumbnail many times😂
Love your reviews and beautiful cat!
The biggest question I have: how much of a battery do these robots have? How did she last so long without a recharge?
Who cares? As far as we know the movie can be placed in 1000 years into the future or not even in our universe
Solor cells in it's skin, I guess.
Jack Quid’s kill scene in this movie was too reminiscent of his kill scene in Scream 5
I'm pretty sure this is on purpose
I forgot how he died in Scream. Didn’t he get stabbed like 49 times?😂
16:32 cat jump scare 😂
Beat me to it
I was already looking forward to this review, but OH MY GOD your cat is in the thumbnail!!
Loved Sophie in Heredic and Jack in Hunger Games - excited to see this one! As always - great review!
ok thumbnail ate
awww the furless cutie pie 🥹
Thanks for this review! I'm 57 & proud to say I misunderstood the trailer days ago (didn't see the poster), but an online review or some such said "it's got lots o' surprises, just see it," & I saw it on Tues. ($7 at AMC w/a free Stubbs acct!). I had no idea what it was about (& realized I'd seen the trailer (had forgotten it)), so The Surprise came out of nowhere. We've seen it all b4, but it was good. Kinda brutal, but still good. Thank you again! :-)
I saw this last night. I was expecting more, but I’m so particular. I will say it’s entertaining and the concept is pretty cool.
Where can I watch it illegally ? Lol
I liked that all this was about the subtext, and it is a nice 90 minute movie. Kat is human, and appears to feel threatened by Iris because as a bot, bots like her could replace Kat in being a side piece to the rich. Also, Kat was the brains behind the plot, but needed Josh because he was going to lease the bot and knew that Sergei was a monster and would definitely take advantage of Iris when required. And all of the action happens while Iris absolutely is in love with Josh, and can't help herself, so to me that Is what makes her escape in Josh's car so traumatic.
I think the theme of domestic abuse and overall greed was pretty evident throughout the film. I feel as though you might be thinking of it too literal. Iris can be a metaphor for several different themes but those two were the main focal point imo
that blonde guy being a robot totally fucking got me lol.
At first I was like "this relationship is uncanny, but I wont judge" and then it totally made sense. It was a nice twist, which is why it sucks that the trailers revealed Iris being a robot.
I wouldn't have watched it opening night if I didn't know that... but I wish I didn't know that, if it makes sense.
Just saw this today and immediately looked for your guys’s review earlier, completely agree with both of your pull quotes lmao
i can’t remember her name but aww look at that pretty girl!! 😅🥰 she needs to feature more
Aggie
I popped off so hard when I recognised Jaboukie lol.
We saw it Monday night. We thought it was fantastic!
Hey did you guys go see it today!? I think I saw you at the theater!
Yes
I love you guyssss💕💕💕💕💕
I watched this movie in the sneak preview in the English original version. The German in the Sheriff scene was really bad, almost inaudible, but it got some good laughter and astonishment in the German audience. It really makes me want to know how they put this in the German dubbed version of the movie. Maybe they just used English there.
However, the bad German took some immersion. I mean, they can build these high tech robots but it can't talk in proper German? Even Chat GPT today can talk in almost perfect German.
Thanks for the nice spoiler talk :)
I really enjoyed this movie! I thought it was fun, smart, and very well thought out. I loved the clever commentary on love, loneliness, abuse, and the right to personal autonomy. I also thought the thriller with a sprinkle of comedy mix worked very well together. I don't think you're giving it enough credit. Plus, it's got a great retro soundtrack.
I made the mistake of going to see this tonight before watching y’alls review. I only paid $7 to watch it but I feel like it was only worth using someone’s Netflix account to watch it😂
22:33 loving Joseph's "companion" 🐾🐈⬛️
I could not believe that Eli did not turn Patrick's intelligence up when they first started looking for her. Seems that would have helped. But I guess they ran into her anyway without much effort.
I think that because he used to see him more as a human then as customizable robot
Kitty cameo!!!!!!!!
Yeah this whole chaos happened because of Josh's stupid ass if he hadn't set Iris's aggression up and made her even more clingy to him then their plan would have gone off without a hitch and all the bloodshed would have been avoided and I love that his friends called his ass out on this 😂😂😂
Not the live woman being more difficult than the killer AI woman 😂😂😂
Maybe I’m just late to realizing this, being born in ’93, but Hollywood is the definition of nepotism. I had no idea Jack Quaid was Meg Ryan’s son-he’s a great actor, but wow. Nepotism has been a Hollywood staple forever, which makes you wonder: how many of our favorite actors truly made it on their own?
Every video I say the same thing.
I don’t think most actors make it on their own. The industry is elitist and classist, so even without nepotism, lots of actors have some sort of financial support to help them.
@@daniellelicht5093 very true
I thought the other 2 of the dates were companions which would’ve made more sense then just Lukas gage being the only other companion there.
Yall have been the only peoole ive seen agree with me on the movie. I feel like almost nothing that was set up landed.
Saw this at a Thursday night preview. At first I couldn’t tell if she was a robot or if she was human but had been modified in some way. Like, when she palms the pocket knife by the lake, I thought she was human and was about to cut a chip out of herself.
Good message and Jack Quaid was basically his character in Scream 5 again.
I’ll definitely need a second watch cause there was a lot going on and a lot of unexpected stuff.
I came for Sophie Thatcher and Megan Suri. Wasn’t disappointed. I’m trying to say I enjoyed the film!
Great video! ❤
Agree that 100% sex aggressive with the male robot could have created funny / threatening scenes
The only thing I would have enjoyed more about this movie is if the concept wasn’t revealed in the the longer trailer. 😢😅
Hi! Huge movie buff here! I was giving up on movies for a long time and found myself watching old movies over and over again with my friends. I got sick in oct and was really bored. And i started watching some new movies. The substance was fantastic! I wlso loved MOTHERS INSTICTS with Anne Hathaway! That one was omg, so unexpected! Wolf man i liked it but didnt love it! Noseferatu eh..i still think of gary oldman when i think of this newer vampire movies. Him and his cinnabun head 😅. Im looking fowars to COMPANION 🎬 AND THE NEW stephen king movie! 🎬 new sub here ! 🎉😊
Have either of you watched the movie Ex Machina with Domnhall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac? Its one of the best "AI" type movies imo.
I wish the Companion trailer wouldn't have revealed she was a robot right away and revealed that to us later in the movie to make it more shocking.
just finished it. had SUPER high hopes!!! feel flat, unfortunately.
I just knew the reviews for this were bogus. Thank you for the honest review!
So the kitty loved the movie it seems! 😚🥰
I enjoyed this, thought was simple and effective. In Mexico is called Compañera Perfecta
When will men learn to stop buying robot 🤖 girlfriends
To yalls point about Sergei, i thought the twist was that all of em were sex robots acting out a scenario for Sergei, which goes horribly wrong
COMPANYUN!! 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Can Iris get rid of spam? I could use that.
Wow, that was fast! LOL. I’m totally with you on this-I couldn’t agree more. Critics keep raving about how amazing this movie is, but to me, it was just... okay. The murder plot felt way too contrived, like the film cared more about delivering plot twist than telling a solid story. Take Josh, for example-he's supposed to be this entitled, misogynistic loser who can’t get a real girlfriend (at least, that’s what we’re told). But throughout the first act he comes across as perfectly normal and even charming, all just to keep the twist under wraps.
A more interesting premise would be exploring what happens if these ultra-realistic female robots became widely available-how would that impact society? How would women respond to men opting for AI partners over real relationships? What kind of crises might that cause? Sci-fi to me is best when it explores how technology could harm society in a way that seems plausible. Having these robots who are overridden to kill by a simple mod leaves the question as to why this technology would be allowed to be sold to the general public in the first place if it was that dangerous.
I loved the film. I feel like this was everything It Ends With Us wanted to be in regards to themes of abuse.
I enjoyed it. I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
I’m loving the B movie robots lately as a throwback to the 70s Ira Levin thriller genre. The Stepford Wives was full of plot holes and weird science but it was a great satire on feminism for that era.
I liked the movie. I thought that the awkwardness between the charecters was intentional, meant sort of as a commentary on the fakeness and artificiality of modern friendships.
I can see some of the flaws you are pointing out, and it is similar to a lot of things that have been done before. But the charecters worked for me. I thought it was interesting how they made the villian so petty and pathetic. And Sophie Thatcher is amazing and worth the ticket price alone.
I didn't like the movie.
But i will give some positives. The patrick twist was a good one and really surprised me. My jaw actually dropped at that one..
The two random employees that show up at the end were the best written characters in the film for me. I actually wanted them to escape. 😂.
The rest of the film irritated me unfortunately...
IRIS=SIRI lol....i thought it was aiiight. Josh was an irritating character for me. I like the factory reset behind the ear😂😂 i enjoyed your review as usual 👍🏽
You can dooo what you want to dooooo... in livin color!!! Snap snap snap. Praise yall. 😊
Had I seen this *before* your comments...the very fact that a, uhm robot, can get get upset 🤨about not being human, that could have derailed my focus a bit too much 😊But, the skill set at a hundred percent intelligence is kinda intriguing☺
how about xmachina ? would that correlate ?
It was a decent thriller.
11:37 that’s exactly what I was thinking
it played locally as a "mystery movie". I woulda skipped it if I was choosing what to see. I don't care about anything AI since its being pushed in our face so much these days. By having the robot do voice over narration gave me a heavy handed vibe we were to identify with her. You may call me basic but this film struck me as propaganda
yes, I agree, this movie is somewhat overhyped. its only fun if any of these inconsistencies dont take you out of the film. but like you, I was taken out of it from the time she kills Rupert friend.
Aww 😻
Sounds like another one to watch only when it streams for free.
BBC reviews have just praised this but my Spidey senses tell me to go with you guys. And why do movie posters and trailers give everything away now? No room to ponder and anticipation has fizzled 😢
After Heretic, Sophie Thatcher became my celebrity crush. Shes fiiine asf bruh. After heretic i watched The boogey man and Prospect, i still gotta watch the Yellowjackets show. Sophie Thatcher is amazing 😍
I loved this movie. The trailer kinda spoils the movie but thankfully I don't watch trailers!
This plot sounds all over the place and confusing. I rather watch Megan again over this
After seeing both movies this one is much better honestly.
Saw it with my film club I started we all enjoyed it and got free passes because the audio cut out at the end. I'm not sure how I feel compared yo Barbarian but one of my friends thought it was definitely better.
As mind-blowing as Barbie, tiny step to exploring these themes but doesn't ever dive in too deep. Wish the trailer didn't reveal the twist, would have been a bit more impactful. but overall fun but forgettable and like the 20 other movies of similar plots.
Your cat stole the show, sorry lads you are no longer the stars.
There is a fun movie from 2023 called Robots… it a comedy… it’s silly but I thought it was fun. It’s about two robots who fall in love… it’s silly but seems better than this film. Seems lot of the themes covered in Ex Machina 2014.
Sounds like I'd rather rewatch Ex Machina.
Yeh this one didn’t work for me either. Too many other movies that do this way better
Rather, watch repeat of Logan's run 😮
I didn’t dislike it-in fact, I really wanted to like it more-but that just wasn’t the case. I feel like something is missing, something truly important, that one detail that could have made it stand out and sparked more excitement and emotion in me. I had high expectations, but in the end, I didn’t find anything I was hoping for.
The film tries to explore relationship dynamics, feminism, AI usage, and the risks of technology making reality more complex and artificial. Too many themes, none of them truly developed, leaving everything disappointingly shallow. It wants to be a horror movie but also a comedy, and it ultimately turns into a bland hybrid with no real identity.
It gets lost in a maze of inconsistencies and unforgivable plot holes. It’s not even a particularly complex story-maintaining basic coherence wouldn’t have been hard. Instead, the film sets up narrative rules only to break them multiple times, stripping the story of what little credibility it had.
Overall, a huge missed opportunity. The final result feels like a bad episode of Black Mirror, In particular, the episode Be Right Back (2013), mixed with elements from films and series like M3GAN (2022), Ex Machina (2014), Westworld (2016), Terminator (1984), Don’t Worry Darling (2022), and Lucy (2014). Even the protagonists’ first encounter feels reminiscent of Fresh (2022).
21:40 Aww, poor cat is going through Chemo.
OMG 😂 That's hilarious 🤣
Damn Nick love that pull quote 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤tell us what you really think 😅😂😂
This movie sounds so good. Lol now i have to go see it
so glad i saw this review first, still watched it and you're right with the missed potential take. lot of movies are cramming in the girl bossin so hard the plot cant support its own weight. good cast who all played their standard roles, hope they diversify their choices on new projects.great video ty
🎥🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🧈🧂🧈🧀🍿
Lucy was better
Saw it just about 50 minutes ago. It wasn't bad.
Poor writers don’t have the capacity to write someone at 100% intelligence.
This movie was so bland I was expecting more. I hated that after Iris increased her intelligence to 100% she didn't change at all she was still a clueless robot trying to find her way out.
Yeah not having foresight about the car voice controls bothered me
The only time her intelligence shined was during the cop scene Switching her language was pretty clever, but other than that one moment nothing struck me as particularly intelligent.
You nailed it. So mad I didn't see you uploaded this yesterday. I went to see to the theater this morning to see this. Was soooooo not worth the ticket price. Ugh. I should know better than to go to a movie without checking to see if you have a review up. I usually do, but this one slipped by me. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!
