Hi, Kenan as a Chinese I do agree that old people eat turtles and tortoise as traditional medicine, but now more people(mostly young people) start to love and pet turtles and tortoises instead of eating them. The stereotype of "Chinese eats turtle and tortoise" can find everywhere in youtube but the fact is we have captive bred all kinds of snappers, sliders, map turtles, musk turtles, wood turtles, diamondbacks, mata matas, red foot and yellow foot tortoises and other American native turtles and tortoises. People keeping them as pets and I never seen anyone eats them. There are some specific species of turtles(Chinese softshells, Wattle-necked softshells, common snappers and RESs) we do keep eating them as food but we have captive bred a lot and they are really cheap(cb baby common snapping turtles only worth $1, and cb adult only worth $50). So never worry about Chinese people eating turtles now, because unlike 10 years before, Chinese people are changing our views to nature and animals, especially young people, we hate old people(mostly people over 50 years old in China are not educated well, by that time background) doing these thing too as a reptile lover. The worse problem now in China is old people(young people never do that) who are wealthy and also Buddhists release a lot invasion species to the wild for e.g. common snappers, sliders, and kingsnakes. And they appears to be more competitive to native species like revees turtles, Chinese golden turtles, and golden thread turtles, and the numbers of native turtles are continuing decrease by this reason. As my count, people who petting turtles and tortoises in China are continuing increase. Now in China, there are more people raise reptile pets than in US. I really hope you to visit China and see all kinds of native reptiles in China as your fan for a year. By the way, as reptile lovers we still have problem to have captive bred impressed tortoise, but some people keep eating them, that what I am worried about, do you keep any or have plan to have some?

There is also the perception that they are dangerous. I know we had one in my parents' backyard pond a few years and I vaguely remember someone shooting it with the misguided idea that they were keeping everyone safe.
I found a baby one in a parking lot once; it fit into the palm of my hand. I tried to move it to safety but I was so afraid of being bitten that I dropped it...twice! I felt awful. I hope it's in the river now, fat and happy and chowing down!

I keep an old beach towel
I've used it to wrap turtles up so I don't get bitten
Some if the snappers are huge and heavy here in Georgia and attitude makes me Man seem puppy dog tame.

      SMDirtBikeBrian e
Don’t do that. Snappers go where they want to go. If you take them off the path they wanted to go they will turn right around and go right back. Which just means more roads to go through.
The only reason you should touch any wild turtle is 1. Its passing the road (only help it cross in the way it was going) 2. Turtle meat, with the proper license

If they are too big (and/or too slippery with algae and mud) to lift off the road, put them on a car floor mat and pull the mat across the road.
Or even better, happen to have a large bath towel in your vehicle to throw over them.

when a turtle is going out into the road, pick them up and put them on the other side of the road facing the direction they're heading. So they don't go back into the road.

    Hi Kenan,. 🤠 🌴🐢🐢🐢🐊🦎🐍
How are you ? When I was a little girl we would find turtles and bring them home for pets .I have a terrible story, I've been told my whole life .I don't remember it but apparently the snapping turtle I found bit me and I put him in my mouth and bite him in half . My mother was in shock ,I don't recall this cuz I was little ,maybe 5. Well from then on I got the name Fierce Pierce ,That was my name Diane Pierce. I used to wash my lollipops off in the fish tank and I bit a chunk out of my brothers chest and slit his wrist open with a can ,from a canned ham . I do remember the last tragedy ,my brother got 17 stitches,he was 5 I was 4 .It was an accidental .But I had a bad rep when I was little . I grew up to love all animals and people and gave up my violent ways so so long ago .I watch you and Jay and Brian Barczyk all the time ,he just reached his million this week and am so glad about that . You are such a great guy to take care of animals ,reptiles are facinating .Snakes,turtles/tortoises,Crocks/gators and lizard/geckos are terrific. I'm quite the fan .Keep up the excellent work you do .Thank you
You are appreciated. Till next time ,🐍🦎🐢🐊🐸🌴 Chicago NaNa 👵💞 SMILE 🥀
