@@ruffyistderhammer5860 yes, u need the pawn cause before delivering checkmate u place the king in a position where he cant move, so only legal move for white was moving the pawn, if theres wasnt a pawn it would have been stalemate when u reach that position
knight vs rook pawn endings is one of the hardest endings to win. the key is to paralyze the king in the corner, forcing your opponent's pawn in front of the king, allowing you to deliver the KO punch.
The two knights vs pawn ending isn't necessarily winning with best play. It's either a win or a draw depending on how far advanced the pawn is. In fact, the b-pawn in the video is sufficiently advanced (three squares from promoting) for the position to be a theoretical draw. Hikaru's opponent lost the game when he let his king get trapped in the corner. When the position is drawable, the basic technique is: Stay away from the corners. If you get pushed to the edge of the board, at least pick a square two or preferably three squares from the nearest corner. When the king and the mobile knight have pushed your king back as far as possible, the knight blockading the pawn will join in. At this point, push your pawn as fast as possible. Now, no doubt the clock was a big factor for Hikaru's opponent. I'd imagine he had only a few seconds left and was trying to premove on every move.

This only works if the opponent has atleast 1 pawn or it will be a draw by stalemate.
