  • When we think about carrying our gear for whatever reasons and purpose we have to think carefully. One way to carry gear in a patrol situation is the British military P.L.C.E. a great piece of gear.

I was issued this webbing back in the day. We would carry our mags on the left set of pouches and grenades on the right. Extra ammo was bandoliered up on clips and would be carried in our day sack or slung. Great webbing never failed and with the short back PLCE bergan was a bit of kit.

Ordered an excellent one from Kit Monster in the UK a couple of years ago. It had been custom built to include a sewn buttpack. The waist padding (enabling you to run and march with little bouncing or abrasion) and ability to quickly size to the layers of clothing you are wearing (winter/summer) blew away the old Alice gear I was issued in the 80/90's in the US Army. The other plus is you can carry 12 mags of 30rds of 5.56 easily or 6 mags of 20rd 7.62 mags. Being sewn limits modularity but more than makes up in comfort and lumbar support.

I have to agree as a kid seeing some war movies with the UK soldiers in it with this piece of gear on always looked cool

That fold down velcro flap in the mag pouch is to cover the velcro if you want the pouch to open silently, but you lose the ability to quickly close the flap and expect it to be somewhat secure without reinserting the tab.

Thanks for sharing. Do you know the other way to fasten the British PLCE pouches more secure? It´s just using both ends of the closure through the U shape buckle thing (yes, it´s somewhat difficult to explain, but very easy to do when you know it)

I think it's worth the money especially for a defensive scenario in a SHTF situation where you might be only a few hundred or so yards from your main place.

You didn’t get the full set. You’re missing the twin Kidney pouches. They hold the mess tins cooker and ration pack.

@@loneoaksurvival Actually I might be wrong!! Sorry.
I thought it came with Kidney pouches but now I think we just had extra water bottle pouches!!
The 58 pattern webbing had kidney pouches. Sorry again

Excellent info. I just bought a plce setup off of eBay. All of my pouches (8 total) are sewn into the hip pad.
    I wasn’t expecting that, but I don’t mind it.
The belt is sewn into the hip pad as well. Mines a metal glider style of buckle.
The only issue I have is that the two “A” rings closest to my kidneys dig into my back when fully loaded. If I adjust it- the weight distribution is off.
Have you had any issues with the A rings digging into your back?

The sewn in versions are custom made pieces, companies like Dragon Supplies and Jayjays here in the UK made for nigh on 30 years

Nice setup, how do you think camping with something like this would go?

I think for a small kit it would do just fine more than enough room to carry essentials and some extras
