My daughter and her best friend (both students) made it until half.... they both said it was incredibly hot. Liked what I saw when we ran the ball (first) then passed off that. Defense as a whole looked better than it has since the McCoy era... we've had good individuals since then, but playing as a communitive group, this was the best I've seen in a bit.
I was sitting in south east corner. We couldnt make it past the 3rd quarter. Im 35 and my head was spinning and I thought I was in trouble. Hottest game I can remember going too.
@@lesterakalezer9891 yes got to stay hydrated. Before the game, a day before. No alcohol until after the game or limit it. Eat before game. You wait all year to watch just a few games in person. Max it out. You'll regret it if you don't.
Riley dreams of a defense like we have now at OU. The team tackling brought a smile to my face. How good our defense is I don't know and i hope the coaches know. If we can improve weekly, I see another victory in Dallas.
I've seen a lot of whiners so far, but I don't really understand all the crying. Sure, there's things both sides of the ball need to improve on but it's game #1 with a ton of new players, coaches, systems and QB. BV is going to do big things!!!!!
Are you calling Gabe Ikard a whiner? Doesn't sound like he is to high on our OL right now. New players, coaches, system I understand. So why are so many OU fans believeing we will win the Big12 at the very least this year? I thought Coach B was complaining about LR's complex blocking scheme and we should see the OL improve under Lebby's more simple blocking schemes. Is Coach B overrated? Could this be a learning year for the team and maybe we shouldn't expect too much under BV's first year? I do think BV is going to be a good HC and will prepare OU for the SEC but how long will that take? Nick Saban took over Alabama in 2007 and his first season wasn't that great so maybe we should give BV some room and not expect too much his first year.
It seemed like OU was cycling players to get some looks. I do think the foot was let off the gas some to allow the defense some more time off the field given the heat. We weren't going to play with a complex playbook yet. I think it was impressive given the rehaul in nearly the whole team. Most other teams would have struggled more
I kinda disagree with your second sentence. I think the breaks were hit around the 2nd quarter, when we kinda got away from the run for some reason and had two straight 3 and outs. We gradually started pressing the gas again when we started to run the football again. I wouldn't exactly say that the gas was let off of after that point, even though some of the drives didn't end in a score. Idk, that how I perceived it, anyway.
I don't know about everyone else but dome in the stadium. It's freaking oklahoma it was brutally hot and our winters can get brutally cold. Most people left because of the heat and the sun. It was rough to stick around. Plus they don't sell sun screen in the stadium. I would love to see them dome in the stadium though.
Gotta make sure there is enough water bottles and make them nearly free. And I have no idea how it be done, but some kind of shade should be added for that side of the field. Thad make it happen!
I was excited to watch the OU lines look stronger and more physical. I was feeling good until I watched the Ohio State v Notre Dame, Georgia v Oregon, and Utah v Florida. Then I said OMG our lines are not ready to go against that.
We need more talent, especially in the trenches. How does Baylor do it with their 40s and 50s rated recruiting classes? Is Aranda and his staff that good in identifying and developing talent?
@@MarkFloyd7451 yeah Aranda has really done well over the years same as Utah's coach. They maximize the talent the find. Don't get me wrong though I am excited for the progress that has been made. I don't have much expectations for this year's team. I'm basically thinking let's just give BV time to do it his way. And we can judge how it's all going in 2 or 3 years. That's when I hope OU is in a position to compete for a National Championship.
My only "gripe" if you want to call it that is the play calling of Jeff Lebby during the series after UTEP had just closed to 21-10. The D was showing fatigue, the energy in the building was gone, time of possession was heavily in favor of UTEP. That was the drive to possess the ball and put together a long drive. instead, they came out throwing and did a 3 and out and put the D right back out there. Fortunately, the D responded and the next drive they started running, but it was one series too late.
There is nothing that can be done to keep people in the seats during a game that they feel is inconsequential. I went to the Wisconsin game yesterday and the students waited for jump around. As soon as it was over, they jumped right out of the stadium and went back to partying lol. It also doesn’t help that the parking and traffic situation in Norman is such and absolute nightmare.
Last season we all remember the 40-35 win over Tulane, well this previous game.Beating UTEP 45-13, well my friend & I wagered on the game. The O/U was 58.5pts on the Score app & 58.0pts on ESPN,at the end of the game it was "58".I took the under,he took over, who wins the bet?🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
Bill Bedenbaugh has to get his drills in with the offensive line because the they have the conditioning and strength, and what ever is going on with Wanya Morris Bedenbaugh needs to be on top of it, we do not need any hiccups during the season.
I think someone else mentioned it here but bottled water at the stadium is like 6 bucks. It’s ridiculous. You can’t ask college kids to stand out in the searing heat and then price gouge them on the one thing they need to stay out there.
We were vanilla on offense and defense, mostly just a four man rush. We didnt show much on offense or defense, hopefully we get to see them go deeper on the bench next week. I would like to see sawchuk and tawee get in maybe get the ball to more WRs.
Let me ask this……do we even need a student section? I’d say either cut the student section in half, or eliminate it, or instead of students getting season tickets when they apply for them, make each student go to the stadium, or through an app , buy tickets for each individual game so hopefully it helps drive more interested students toward going, and then to encourage them to stay throughout the entire game, maybe find away to have cheaper bottles of cold water available in a way that is faster than the average concession line and maybe students could get a discount on beer after a certain point in the game. I’m not sure what the answer is and it was definitely blazing hot. But my 6year old with down syndrome made it through the entire game and he did amazing.
Student section stands for every moment of action and are on the side in the direct sun. They are interested. Strip the seats out of the lower bowl and force the old rich folks to stand too. I have never been told to sit down and stop cheering in the student section. I have been told that everywhere else.
The extremely soft coverage was my only gripe, especially on 3rd down. And left tackle was bad . Kanak and R mason is going to be a star one more year in the weight room.
@@charlesworkman2868 Agree. I never willingly ignore the issues as a fan. I'm not one of those oversensitive people who get overly defensive when someone gives genuine critiques about my favorite team.
Start cutting student ticket numbers until they stop. If it goes from 500 student tickets to 100 before they stay then so be it. At some point when we want to be a nationally competative SEC team the students will stay to support the football team or those tickets need to be sold to fans instead. BV calls them out and i think it changes though.
It was extremely hot, point blank, period. We couldn’t get water during the first quarter because stairwells were full of drunk students. People were passing out. I had to leave, and I’m a huge OU football fan got there as soon as the gates opened. But I wasn’t risking passing out to watch a game I knew we would win.
Regarding the mass exodus of the student section- I get it’s hot and people were getting sick, but they weren’t *all* getting sick. The marching band stands in the center of the student sections in hot wool uniforms and are the most engaged section of the entire stadium every single game. I think Greek life leadership needs to do a better job of encouraging their members not to get sloshed before games and to hydrate. And if they are wearing their letters, stay for the whole game.
The guy next to me tapped the guy’s shoulder in the row in front of us and said “Can you sit down? Some of us can’t see”. I sit in the upper deck and I know it was hot, but still! 🤦🏻♂️
I think Theo Wease and Marvin Mims, could both be 1500 yards receivers. Jalil Farooq should get a 1000 yards as a receiver, when this offense gets popping and timing gets worked out. As the offensive line gets progressively better each this could be a special year for our Oklahoma Sooners, BOOMER
I also was thinking during the game that the UTEP QB was pretty good. Then I thought how maybe there are other college teams/players that may not be “ranked” but are still good and you never know
Somewhere I read that Alabama tracks student tickets via an app. If you leave early or don't show based on GPS coordinates you lose your tickets. I wonder if this is true. Sounds like this is where it needs to go. Cause if you want to see OU vs Baylor and you leave early in the UTEP game we'll there goes your chance at a student ticket for the game you wanted to see.
Pissed me off that they wanted $4.50 for a bottle of Dasani that probably cost them .50 at most for how much they buy in bulk. Zero breeze no matter where you were sitting, baking in the sun, water fountains with a mile long line, just didn't make for a fun atmosphere after a couple of quarters of football. As soon as someone stood up out of their seat, their entire back all the way down their crack was soaking wet with sweat. Honestly, it was one of the hottest games I've ever attended whether playing or as a spectator. Maybe even the hottest since the heat index was so high due to all the recent rain. I know the school can't really do a whole lot about it, but maybe if the game was an evening game would've made a difference. As hot as it was, I feel like whether it was 11:00 or 2:30 wouldn't have mattered in terms of heat. With an evening game however, it's just different and much more pleasant and you probably wouldn't have had a clearing out of the stadium after halftime like you saw this game. I live in Edmond and I was so hot that even though I had a 30 minute drive to get back home in my air conditioned car (which is a Ford and if you know anything about Fords, they blow ice cold air), I was still hot when I got home and needed a 15 minute cold shower to get comfortable. I don't drink alcohol so it wasn't a dehydration issue, it was just flat out hot.
My thoughts on keeping the student section and crowds at the game: Drop the price of water to $1-2. Decrease the price of beer by qtr. 1st qtr, full price. 2nd qtr, 25% off full price. 3rd qtr another 25% off (half-price beers). 4th qtr 25% of full price.
Remember 2000? I do. I thought Texas would beat us because OU had looked flat the first games of the season. Nice win but no, not overwhelming. But I think OU will play their best ball when they need to.
Yes Chad that’s true what you said you hit it right on the button I mean both of you are right I believe that there’s nothing that can’t be fixed and I hope Kongos good can you get a report on Congel
Bedenbaugh is not handling his business in terms picking the right talent to play on the offensive line, full stop. First of all, Andrew Raym is not strong enough to play center. Robert Congel should be the center because Raym is coming off injury and needs to redshirt to build strength, period. Nobody can tell me that Brey Walker should not be on the offensive line, full stop. Bedenbaugh needs to get his kids in order, drill, drill, drill, and then drill some more. I am so sick of this anemic offensive line play, coach some football Mr. Bedenbaugh.
@@MarkFloyd7451 All of his high school film shows him with good foot work, his Hustle film show him moving well, and camp film shows him dominant on every level. When Oklahoma is doing drills they allow the public to see, he is dominating. When Ventables came in and tested strength he was dominant. I know guys much slower and played three years at Oklahoma and 16 years in the pro. Orlando Brown was slow and pigeon toed, but played. Tackles take maybe three steps outside and two inside, using leverage with their mobility, Brey Walker has all of that, just was not developed.
Cut the student section in half. Seems odd to say this, being college football and all, but they are traditionally the first to bail. Maybe allow students to sell individual game tickets, then they can avoid hot games and cold games and wet games and games played outdoors . . .
I think we got a little flatter in the second quarter and I think we can do better but we are just learning who jails with you I know practice is where you learn a lot of it but on a regular game you see what happens in the real deal it’s still early and we have a lot to improve but that was a really good when we did get flat like I said in the second Quarter
Since the inception of the 4 Team playoff which is 16 semifinal games there’s only been two upsets most of the games are not competitive I guess from a financial standpoint it makes sense but I think it stops there like a 20 team league You may be at a university for five years and only play half the teams in your league I get the excitement but just because you can doesn’t mean you should
Is the students staying for the whole game an OU problem or a college football problem? I recall Alabama trying to make strange rules regarding tickets to keep students in the stands.
I’m a bit skeptical of the Tempo Offense. It seems gadgety like “Speed D,” or something. I hope I’m wrong. The team looked good considering what all happened at the end of last season. D tackled great! Lines were both okay. Barnes was the most talented RB. Gabriel was okay. BOOMER!!!
Well, every team that has employed it effectively for the last 15-20 years has been explosive and scored a ton of points. Offenses are supposed to be a little gadgety… as long as they can still run the ball at will.
I dont like hurry up offense. Tempo here and there is 1 thing but not all game. Look at the teams consistantly winning championships everything is balanced. Hurry up works on weaker teams but elite teams will destroy it becuase or D will have no time to rest.
@@lesterakalezer9891 yessss. Exactly. It's a gimmick to hide weaknesses. A great defense will shut it down. Example- Baylor destroyed the ole miss offense in the bowl game last year.
Its UTEP, the offense had trouble moving the ball in the 2nd Qtr, and the defense didn't look great against the pass, but looked really good against the run, gang tackling was money, money, money. The QB wasn't great (15 of 23) and didn't connect on any deep shots. OU should be dominating a team like UTEP in all phases of the game, My prediction for the season is 10 wins and a bowl game.
OU needs to reduce the number of Student tickets until they prove they are willing to stay and support the team. Sell the tickets to fans who actually want to be at the game and cheer the whole time!
Without students there is no University of Oklahoma and there is no OU football. Students stand during all the action and only sit down for timeouts and halftimes. Rip the seats out of the lower bowl and force everyone to stand and see how many last in 100°+ heat in direct sunlight
If the OL isn't doing well again then should BV start looking for a better OL coach? Isn't coach B supposed to be one of College football's top OL coaches? Is he reruiting the wrong guys? We haven't had a really good OL since 2018.
Would be perfect if we could have night games at home during the first month that heat is always brutal the first couple of weeks. Playing utep didn’t help either
I'm an OU student. I stayed the whole game. But, I think everyones worrying too much. The student section will stay when its a more enticing game. When its a bigger opponent. Or when its a closer game. The students will care. I don't think solutions need to be thought of yet. If this happened against Baylor when its tied? Sure, panic. That's bad. But against UTEP, up 21 points, in 100 degree heat? Its okay. Its not that big of a deal, YET.
But, on the other hand. One thing that has to stop is fraternities reserving sections. They reserve two rows for their pledges or whatever and then all leave to go drink after the first quarter. That has to stop. it also wouldn't hurt to shave off the sides of the student section and give them to fans. Condense the student section a lil bit.
This show is pretty good; pretty informative. It's missing a key element, though. The thing that's missing, which would really make it pop and go from "pretty good" to "pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty good" is a theme song. You guys need a theme song so people know what time it is when they fire up your latest video on the TH-cam and that theme song blasts their ears with auricular goodness.
Where it concerns the student section, the weather was insane, they scheduled utep, and on top of that they let them put up 200 yards passing and got dominated in the second quarter by utep. The 3 and out was when people started leaving don’t have 3 and outs against utep. If you want people to stay and you are scheduling utep, look like Texas or usc against them, pick 6s and much better more exciting offense that doesn’t take sacks to utep or overthrow everything deep
OU Football games need a tradition thing done every game. Play an iconic Toby Keith song that everyone can sing along to in the 3rd quarter or going into 4th. Alabama plays “Dixie Land Delight” and everyone is into it. Also, why don’t we use the Boomer Sooner chant more than just once? It’s only used during pre game it seems like. Students need to feel like they need to participate.
Re OU Student section... Take away half of more of their seats and let the fans buy the seats. Or threaten them with doing that if they keep leaving early. Gotta make the seat more valuable.
Regarding the student section. I think y’all said it without wanting to say it. Kids want to drink. They are leaving to go drink. If it means opening a few more beer stands under that student section and a few more water fountains to beat the heat then that’s the answer. When I was there in 2012 it was the same way. They also gave a lot more freebies to the students back then. Why are we not giving out more boomer sooner signs? We continue to play that clip as a great video yet we stop giving them out. In the end, the answer is always access to beer with students. Even back in the day people would still leave but they went to oconnels to drink at halftime then would be able to go back in the game. They’ve always left for alcohol.

I wasnt drinking either.
You are only 35. Hope you are healthy. Don't drink beer.
@@willcover6142 I was up hollering and jumping around. Dont think I had enough water in me.

I haven't really seen much whiners.. Definitely haven't seen any crying.
So, I'm confused by this comment.
Willis, Farouk and Mims, all game changers.
can you post these videos as audio only on audea? would really appreciate just the audio! love your stuff btw, keep pushing out content!
I was very satisfied with the first game. We had a balanced offensive attack. I loved Bowman’s play and I believe is a much happier camper this year.
Gotta make sure there is enough water bottles and make them nearly free. And I have no idea how it be done, but some kind of shade should be added for that side of the field. Thad make it happen!
Utah-Florida was a classic
1:02:44
@@mark_a_vigil I remember watching game one of every team and Said we suck we can't do shit. Wow. Pathetic comment
B. Willis was a man amongst boyz Saturday!!!! BOOMER SOONER!!!
Every time Reggie Grimes made a big play, I tried to get a cheer of "Reggie! Reggie!" going, but nobody around me bought in lol
Farooq wasn't open.he didn't separate from the defenders
Offense of line grade. D-
There is nothing that can be done to keep people in the seats during a game that they feel is inconsequential. I went to the Wisconsin game yesterday and the students waited for jump around. As soon as it was over, they jumped right out of the stadium and went back to partying lol.
It also doesn’t help that the parking and traffic situation in Norman is such and absolute nightmare.
Man I counted Graham having three sacks Kanick got one to and Danny Stutsman everyone was wrapping the ball carrier up and just text book tackling
I love this show. I so wish y’all had a traveling drinking sports show.
Loved it every time Marcus Major carried the ball the other team ended up having to call a medical time out...lol....bodies laying everywhere
Hey Gabe, did you see any examples of a "mid-zone" concept against UTEP? Having a hard time visualizing it, and a time stamp could help. Thanks!
Bill Bedenbaugh has to get his drills in with the offensive line because the they have the conditioning and strength, and what ever is going on with Wanya Morris Bedenbaugh needs to be on top of it, we do not need any hiccups during the season.
I think what you're seeing Morris is what you're gonna get. We're gonna be thin at O-line this year.
Regarding the crowd with the OU stadium they ran out a water in the 2nd quarter.... No water for sale
We also didn’t get burned deep on defense. But our tackling was awesome.
The extremely soft coverage was my only gripe, especially on 3rd down. And left tackle was bad . Kanak and R mason is going to be a star one more year in the weight room.
Now I'm more concerned about the o-line after listening to the valid critiques. 😆
I completely agree. But it doesn’t do anybody good to ignore the issues
BV calls them out and i think it changes though.
sneaking in a couple of frozen solid bottles of water is a must! Placed under each armpit will keep you cool and feeling good!
Gen Z 🙄
It's not only students multiple rows in my section sitting on 3rd down on the first defensive drive. Expected a better atmosphere.
As the offensive line gets progressively better each this could be a special year for our Oklahoma Sooners, BOOMER
...

I also was thinking during the game that the UTEP QB was pretty good.
Then I thought how maybe there are other college teams/players that may not be “ranked” but are still good and you never know
That's why it's hard for even the really talented teams to go undefeated.
I agree with you! Utep QB was better than I knew. He'll help them win some games.
My thoughts on keeping the student section and crowds at the game:
Drop the price of water to $1-2. Decrease the price of beer by qtr.
1st qtr, full price.
2nd qtr, 25% off full price.
3rd qtr another 25% off (half-price beers).
4th qtr 25% of full price.
Really good ideas. Especially the water. Water should not be expensive however they have bottle refill stations.
Remember 2000? I do. I thought Texas would beat us because OU had looked flat the first games of the season. Nice win but no, not overwhelming. But I think OU will play their best ball when they need to.
This might sound weird, but these guys sound eerily similar to 2 of the guys on the radio broadcast yesterday.
There should be some sort of reward in place for students that stay the entire game. Or, maybe half off concessions in the second half?
One thing that can be done is schedule better opponents the first game.
Dollar beers with a student ID would go a long way
Yes Chad that’s true what you said you hit it right on the button I mean both of you are right I believe that there’s nothing that can’t be fixed and I hope Kongos good can you get a report on Congel
Bedenbaugh.
Brey Walker unfortunately is not very mobile. He couldn't keep up with this fast paced offense of Lebby's.
Maybe allow students to sell individual game tickets, then they can avoid hot games and cold games and wet games and games played outdoors . . .
Go Dawgs baby! 😎
It was championship form for Georgia in week 1.
I think we got a little flatter in the second quarter and I think we can do better but we are just learning who jails with you I know practice is where you learn a lot of it but on a regular game you see what happens in the real deal it’s still early and we have a lot to improve but that was a really good when we did get flat like I said in the second Quarter
Since the inception of the 4 Team playoff which is 16 semifinal games there’s only been two upsets most of the games are not competitive I guess from a financial standpoint it makes sense but I think it stops there like a 20 team league You may be at a university for five years and only play half the teams in your league I get the excitement but just because you can doesn’t mean you should
No student section, open it up to the public.
Boom goes the dynamite
Is the students staying for the whole game an OU problem or a college football problem? I recall Alabama trying to make strange rules regarding tickets to keep students in the stands.
Or a college student problem.
College students today aren't what they used to be, unfortunately.
@ChadM, yea, ur wrong.
@@sbcbaits994 my concern is how it effects our D.
The easy solution to the student section is to raise prices to where they either can't afford it, or really want to be there, because it is expensive.
BRAYDEN WILLIS!!!
Anything wrong with Daniel Parker?
Good question. He would have helped the offense a lot with his blocking.
BV said he got sick Thursday and will hopefully be back for Kent State
I'm an OU student.
They do have one, but I think they don’t play it on TH-cam due to royalty problems. Listen to them on Spotify and you’ll hear it. Love Teddy and Gabe!
TH-cam is weird when it comes to copyright. Even if you own it, or have permission, TH-cam will hit them with a copyright strike.
@@brickfrog8834 Yeah, but is it a "good" theme song?
@@BeccaHasThoughts That's why I'm gonna write one for them; that way TH-cam can't do nothin' about it!
Allow exit and re-entry. OU is one of the only schools in the big 12 that doesn’t allow that.
Eliminate the student section, maybe give those seats to local HS players
If Mins Would get 15 targets have over 300 yards in a game make a statement leave no doubt there’s only one Oklahoma
When we played Jump Around years ago that was also a hit
Teddy I got a ? Did you see some things yall did in your day!!!
We'll get better and better...no worries. Boomer!
Re OU Student section... Take away half of more of their seats and let the fans buy the seats. Or threaten them with doing that if they keep leaving early. Gotta make the seat more valuable.
Now there are NINE teams that won't have a good shot at a championship, but are there anyway. As opposed to one or two.

*GEORGIA fans:* “There’s a *”GOOD”* Bo Nix?”🤨🤔
Hi! I am leaving a nice comment.
