What I do is dip down, dair, and jump at all the same time, (as if you were short hopping on stage) then drift back to the stage. It seems to work just as good as the other techniques!
Funny thing is the T-Spike had been around for a long time since the early days of Smash 4. T popularized it during Civil War, hence it being named after him.
This is a super easy way to do it: Make X jump, and then when you're hanging on the edge, go down and using your thumb press X and A at the same time. You don't dip as low, but it's super easy and is a pretty good imitation.
Thank you! I needed this and searched so much just a few days ago and no one else has a tutorial and then I saw your channel and Subscribed hoping you would make one and a few days later you made one haha awesome
Good vid. Been waiting for someone to actually cover this. Destroys Inklings. Destroys Snake. Destroys DDD. Destroys Rob. Destroys Duck & Olimar. Destroys Ganon and Ganondorf who drives race cars. Destroys Ike/Roy/Marthcina... Destroys Bowser and DK. Destroys a LOT of characters. This is probably the tech that I am most well versed in and your not wrong to say that getting down Ledge Trump DAIR and ledge drop DAIR is a clutch factor in a lot of matchups. I've turned losing games into a win off it more times than I've actually gotten solid wins. I have no bumpers set to jump, I have one set to grab actually for easy bomb play (including my Y button so I can jump Y jump L for continued z drop strings with no effort).
@@JonahDeroy I jump X, L for z drop on bomb, Input any aerial needed, fastfall, jump X, Y for z drop on bomb again, rinse and repeat. Keeps my thumb and my index finger from fatigue and is easier to do than just using Z or just Y but that particular finger no longer needs to make as many inputs. Might be a personal thing for me tho.
This is amazing! I'm a link main-in-training, but I don't have ultimate yet. I'm still playing brawl, and I'm not good at it anyway, but even then, this video is amazing!
This technique made my match against joker infinitely better. I still haven't mastered it since I have trouble to snapping the ledge fast enough most of the times so I guess I should start trying the variant running jump back to stage.
this is awesome man! I love your approach to forcing your opponent to recover low. I did something similar with falco and how to go off stage with him. do you think you could do a video on how to edge guard as link when you dont have time to set up with a bomb? What are your main thoughts on how to get someone to go where you want them to? when do you use boomerang instead of arrow or even just simply jumping off stage yourself? I think this would be an awesome video and you definitely are the guy to do it! liked and shared!
Thank you for all the link tutorials, super helpful. I know this covering spiking off the ledge, but are there good scenarios/combos of using it on stage? Never really use it on stage, but just curious. I'm pretty sure bounces are tech-able, but is spiking on stage safe, can it lead to tech chases/follow ups, or is it better to keep mostly as an edge guarding tool?
Link's dair doesn't create a spike on grounded opponents sadly. So they'll always pop upwards. On stage you actually would rather hit people with the very very late hit of dair to get good combos. I included a few in my true combos video. :)
Been trying this for two hours with no success, I keep falling, I don’t know what Im doing wrong. I input everything as fast as I can and it still kills me
What i've been doing this whole time is: tapping away from ledge to avoid accidental online-lagged input fast fall death, and immediately pressing A+X (or A+Y) while holding down (delay to your taste), and then just sliding the down-stick input over towards stage.
I gotta keep it simple and stupid for my slow fingers and i'm usually drinking beer with buds which also makes my playing much worse. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL, YOUR LINK, AND YOU VIDEOS!
Of course I see your comment:) I'm suuuper busy with work so had to put the YT uploads a bit on hold for now, but I got tons of things in mind to release soon, hopefully!
LxZ Link Oh l, thank you for the update, and I’m sorry if I sounded rude in any way, everything you have posted has really helped me as a smash player, and the other channels I looked at before hand haven’t posted any tec videos in awhile, or haven’t posted at all, so just again thank you for responding and teaching us all so much!!! :D I miss my smash corner, he was a great guy
I actually developed this habit with normal controls because of my dummy brain thinking the bounce from a hit will get me back on stage, but just in case i miss imma do it like that
Would you also recommend practicing the inputs with slow mo in Training, and then gradually increasing the speed until you're up to normal speed? Or is it not worth it?
2:17 you can just catch the ledge instantly by standing at the edge and dashing outwards and then rolling your control stick back in This is also how you ledge trump opponents if you're standing on the stage You did it at 4:07
@@LxZLink Haha, well people have been doing that forever. I remember Ryo (hype Ike player) doing the jump-back spike early-on in smash4, and I think you'll see m2k do a lot of them with Marth in melee?
I must be confused. When I press down to release the ledge I only get one jump and he is spinning... when you do it he jumps straight up. What am I doing wrong?
link's air down a is one of the most annoying moves in the game because people who don't know what they're doing pick toon link and 90% of their attacks are down a
This is kinda unnecessarily difficult. People just figure out where your character's like, I dunno, spike box is? Jump off, and send your opponent to the abyss. You don't have to do this T-Spike shite for every spike. I don't, because it's unnecessary and makes spiking much harder.
It looks so good when it lands
And boy does it feel good too.
Which it does not often, very risky attack.
Also often I am not close to the edge to put this off
Wow! I can't wait to do this as Toon Link!
Wait a second...
Yeah, I wish it was still like brawl
"AnYoNe CaN dO iT"
JonahDeroy you must have missed the part where i said that if your char doesnt have a spike, use your Nair instead;)
I actually did this with Toon Link more than once :D
Sonic Speed
i don't think i will ever hear someone explain it better than you
I actually finally pulled the T Spike off this past weekend. Gotta keep working on it.
Bruh me too!!! I was so pumped
What I do is dip down, dair, and jump at all the same time, (as if you were short hopping on stage) then drift back to the stage. It seems to work just as good as the other techniques!
It works well, but it's better to delay your jump a bit to make sure you dip nice and low :)
Spencer4hire 35 I been doing the same but think I might try the other technique after watching this
One of the most satisfying things to do with Link! I love doing this every time I play as him.
Gonna be sharing this video on Smashboards btw!
T spike them to show dominance !
LET EM KNOW EZ 🔥
Link's edge guarding is nuts.
And i love it!!
Funny thing is the T-Spike had been around for a long time since the early days of Smash 4. T popularized it during Civil War, hence it being named after him.
It's been a tech since the beginning of Smash, it's just a fun little reference to the Link Lord :)
Sweet video! I actually was practicing it today at lunch and couldn't get it quite right, heaven sent me this video lol
I've already mastered the technique and have a sick clip of me T spiking that was recorded, But thank you so much for the tutorial. Keep it up!
