John Carpenter is such an amazing filmmaker and my favorite aspect of his work is how he can develop atmosphere and world-feel. In no small part to how he works with music both from others and his original scores. Its never the same twice, always fits the idea of the film its in. This Prince Of Darkness score is truly diabolical, biblical in scale, sounds looming like a great wave crashing over you, makes you feel small. Great fucking stuff.

This soundtrack never got the recognition it deserved when it came out, probably too many of us only heard it on terrible cinema speakers or mono cable t.v., on proper speakers or headphones the layered music composition really delivers a sense of nuanced dread and horror.
There are some similarities (might even be an almost identical piece if I recall correctly). TL came the year after, and is very solid, but not much can compete with the POD score.
