This song gave me goosebumps in the 00s and still does today what a banger. The lyrics, sound, drums and vocals etc everything is perfect. This is probably my favourite song of David’s but damn White Ladder was a class album.
Gosh I haven’t heard this track in years. This is one of those songs that takes me back to a very specific point/place in time in my life. Its such a rare dynamic to hear just the first few bars of a song and be instantly transported back 17 years to the opposite side of the world and exist in that mental/emotional space again even for a few brief moments. Its such a gift. Goosebumps.
There are two voices in the music industry that I could listen to at any time, singing live or recorded, one is Darren Hayes' other one is David Gray's because I know I will enjoy it and will never disappoint me, no matter how old or young they are. Thank you for this magic you bring 🙌
this is such a nostalgic song for me in the early 2000s I would hear it all the time at the grocery store and other stores I always thought it was a high quality song even when I was a kid then, now I am in my 30s and it's like the song never aged. It still has the same impact on me when I listen to it and reminds me of that time
This was and is groundbreaking Folktronics, the beautiful percussive backbeat provided by the wonderful Mr Mclune with the frenetic brushes and David Gray playing beautiful restrained block chords on electric piano. Heartrending…and soul scorching. Ahead of its time.
@@jackjude boom boom 😆 I think if my memory is correct they did this on jools hooternany thingy and David jumped up on top of piano in the mid section …. Not on TH-cam I might have it on vhs somewhere … and the crowd were nearly all eastenders cast all hammered by the looks of it .. if my memory is correct, but this live performance was brilliant

Can’t wait to see David Gray in Dublin in few weeks what a voice!! The drummer is fab too, remember seeing them live in Galway in 2006 a concert to remember!! Best ever.
Saw the 20th anniversary of “White Ladder” Tour this past summer in Raleigh, NC. Great show. I bet I played this CD at least 250 times all the way through since I bought it. It’s just that good. Will be saving this vid! Thank you!
Ahh Craig McClune! I remember reading an interview with him in Rhythm magazine back in the day. And remember seeing him playing with DG live on TV - Really loved his energy. He had a flix/drumstick brush back in the day. Good to see him back :)
@Laura Done lucky you. There are so many good concerts going on now. I wanted to see him, but it was a toss-up of lumineers, crowded house, Alanis Morissette, Bill Bailey, and David gray. I chose lumineers and crowded house. I can't afford all, I'm afraid 😕
Please forgive me If I act a little strange For I know not what I do Feels like lightning Running through my veins Every time I look at you Every time I look at you Help me out here All my words are falling short And there's so much I want to say Want to tell you just how good it feels When you look at me that way, ah When you look at me that way Throw a stone And watch the ripples flow Moving out across the bay Like a stone I fall into your eyes Deep into that mystery, ah Deep into some mystery I got half a mind To scream out loud I got half a mind to die So I will never have to Lose you girl Won't ever have to say goodbye I won't ever have to lie Won't ever have to say goodbye Whoa I Whoa I Whoa I Please forgive me If I act a little strange For I know not what I do Feels like lightning Running through my veins Every time I look at you Every time I look at you Every time I look at you Every time I look at you
Is that a linn drum or a Roland that you programmed the drums on? No we used a bloke called Craig and luckily he turns up to every gig or we’d be fucked.
I understand ... They said Dianna created something so wonderful .... But those of us who helped Elisabeth and Phillip create it never even saw what it was.
Great to see that wonderful Drummer Mr McClune back playing with David.
Ye I remember seeing him at vertical with David..maybe 2002ish..was totally mesmerised by his drumming. Reminded me of drum n bass
Absolutely 👌
The magic was back at the recent concert in Dublin
He’s a human drum machine, i was certain it was a drum track before it panned to him playing it live. so good!!
Seriously, made my year seeing him on the White Ladder anniversary tour!
Never tire watching him, great drummer .
90's seem to be the last great era for singer songwriters. David has such an iconic voice, this song is simplistically beautiful

Same. How he delivered that whole album. What an artist and songwriter.

He must have made up wit DG, he left the band a few years ago. He’s epic. Can’t remember his name.
@@simonpattison9991 Craig McClune aka Clune great drummer

Love this and so pleased to see who I think was the original drummer for this track when first released.
Craig Mclune aka Clune great drummer
I loved the TOPT performance of this tune, or should I say clune.

A new upbeat / pop album with clune and tim would be very very welcome
For some reason this song just hits a feel ....just wonderful , for real 😮
An absolute amazing artist. He has a rightful place up there with the greats
I don’t know what genius would be in a song but if I had to guess, it’s in this one
This man is the best live performer. Saw him twice in Glastonbury so amazing. Good memories with the best friends
White Ladder is one of my all time favourite albums. Doesn’t have any “filler” tracks on it
Absolutely excellent!
Just incredible ❤️ so many wonderful memories
Brilliant song, brilliant lyrics, suit his voice just perfectly!!👍♥️
Awesome. Performed like it came out yesterday 👌
One word, Absolutley awesome !!!

A perfect, beautiful song about falling in love, still give shivers +20 years after the release of white ladder
Clune is so good man. So glad he's back

Wow, just wow. Takes me back to the 90's. I've always listened to David but those drums and his vocal have just thrown me back 20+ years. Love it.
Just watched back with special attention to the drummer, fantastic.
Awesome 👍

This song was there when I needed it the most. Even a couple of years after its release. What an anthem.
Bravo!
I'm loving them 2 smiling at each other. Quality 👌🤟
That might be the best ever on Virgin. Just brilliant!!
Absolutely blooming amazing, as it was when first released 👀😀👍
BRAVOOOOOO !!!!!
incredible !!
You're amazing Clune! John and I were thrilled to watch you 2 nights in Boston. Amazing shows! Hope to see you soon!
What a brilliant performance
Always loved the wee drummer
simply fantastic, and that drummer is class, David's voice is like velvert
How good is this drummer!
Fantastic...I believe he's doing some live gigs for the white ladder anniversary. That would be amazing.
Yeah finally! It's been postponed for 2 years, I'm seeing him in May 🥳

Amazing Drummer!
David Gray, you never disappoint. Awesome stuff
Didn't know Ronnie O' Sullivan could play guitar! Class.
😂👍🏻 With Inspector Clouseau on the drums, it’s definitely a star studded trio
Still love him
Absolutely pure class
Brill!
Great album that white ladder
Brilliant stuff. Thanks David, and thanks Virgin.
Still sounding brilliant.
WOW
Brilliant live and never fails. 🙏
Tune
No matter what, when you see someone live in concert you have a new love and understanding. #Dublin 💙 #Ukraine
Legend
Love this, the version of this from the Point in Dublin is amazing, which, I think, is all 3 of them too
And that’s how it’s done for you brilliant
Just learned this on piano. Is there a backing track for this? Love this song
As good now as ever it was ....
Please forgive me
If I act a little strange
For I know not what I do
Feels like lightning
Running through my veins
Every time I look at you
Every time I look at you
Help me out here
All my words are falling short
And there's so much I want to say
Want to tell you just how good it feels
When you look at me that way, ah
When you look at me that way
Throw a stone
And watch the ripples flow
Moving out across the bay
Like a stone I fall into your eyes
Deep into that mystery, ah
Deep into some mystery
I got half a mind
To scream out loud
I got half a mind to die
So I will never have to
Lose you girl
Won't ever have to say goodbye
I won't ever have to lie
Won't ever have to say goodbye
Whoa I
Whoa I
Whoa I
Please forgive me
If I act a little strange
For I know not what I do
Feels like lightning
Running through my veins
Every time I look at you
Every time I look at you
Every time I look at you
Every time I look at you
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Mr. McClune
Drummer’s incredible
Absolutely immense....but whose playing the bass line ?
Craig McClune aka Hot Rod Sticks Master... Ah to be back in the 90's!
🙏
Was the guitarist in this performance not also in the original 'This Year's Love' video?

The American band ‘goose’ did an awesome cover of this. Check it out!

Luv the song cannot look at the head wobble to much, totally infuriating
did David fire the drummer after this haha
McClune & Gray
Austin city limit is the best version of this song
But can’t be found
Few tech cockups lol but good still
