I am actually glad that counter to your recommendation, VKB chose to make the whole grip section the same plastic as it is, rather than a rubbery grip. My X52's grip did not survive the heat in another country, even though it would have been fine in the US.
@@MeoithTheSecond I have stored an old X-45 wich has rubery covering on both the stick and the throttle.. it quickly became sticky and tried to clean it only to make it more sticky.. even today 15 years later it still feels stick when i grab it in my store-trash room.. actually would like to clean that properly.. never could use that stick really due to that issue.
I kinda regret throwing out my still semi functional X52 Pro. It's insane how difficult it is to find decent gear these days with a couple of decent flight games coming out, especially here in Australia where any niche retail product disappears for months as soon as it hits shelves.
@@Simenthusiast Buy the NXT. Skip the trash tier. I had the same experience as the guy in the video - dealing with shitty deadzones etc. The NXT competes with the 500 dollar stuff. And holds value.
I found out about this stick yesterday on forums and what not and so I wanted to see reviews and whatnot. I have seen a couple of the other videos you released regarding this stick since most other sticks are sold out at the moment. I ordered it yesterday since it was in stock, I cannot wait!!! It is still $161 w/ shipping. will be my first stick for squadrons
I feel like this is a solidly midlevel stick.. entery level is something like a thrusmaster Hotas X I would say its entry level into the premium flight stick market
@@Simenthusiast Im scared of buying a hotas x or 4(people say 4 has a better deadzone). I was thinking about TM 16000 but it seems it has the same problem has all of those. Alot of people say the start drifting one month sometimes even weeks after being bought. They also seem to be way higher in price than they should, what do you think ? Have you had these problems with these sticks ?(hotas 4,x)
@@franciscoalmeida7017 if you're on PC, avoid the HOTAS X/4/One. Build quality is crap. If you're on console, you've got no choice unless you get a Cronus Zen to emulate the proper signals to your Xbox or Playstation, but even then you'll need a TM HOTAS 4/One to authenticate to your system once it's supported by Cronus. I'm going the Cronus route because I WANT a quality built stick without paying out the rear for a Warthog or Virpl setup since I play from the couch.
@@SirBrass I agree I have the hotas X when I had my Xbox but its garbage, I also bought it a few years ago for $60 so wasn’t a terrible by back then but now I’m on pc and I don’t even play sims now because it’s just complete junk, I’m waiting to get another hotas system to start playing flight sims again and this one looks like it would be a solid mid tier stick maybe paired with a warthhog or virple throttle
@@franciscoalmeida7017 I had the Hotas One, it felt like a toy but worked fine, but it doesnt have nearly enough buttons for space or flight sims. I then upgraded to two t16000m's, they were fine until they developed the infamous Z-axis drift. After disassembly and cleaning the sensors track again, but I still with they had more buttons accessible on the stick not the base. Though not as bad as the Hotas One, the T16000m still feels like cheap plastic. I have not used the VKB Gladiator, but every review says they are a large step up in quality from the cheap thrustmasters, if my t16000ms keep breaking I'll probably eventually replace them with these. If you are ok with eventually having to tinker with/repair the stick, the T16000m is decent if you dont play too much. But if you plan on really getting into space or flight sims something like the Galdiator is worth the investment. I wish I had just gotten something like this VKB right off the bat for its reliability and features.. You know what they say: "Buy cheap, buy twice"
The best way to get the softer feel to the grip without the rubber going sticky after a while is to just find a nice pair of gloves that suit you and then you have the best of both worlds, I hate the rubber grips when they go sticky so for me it was one of the best things on the VKB.
Great review. I have the NXT premium as my right hand stick. I use it for star citizen and yeh the premium is definitely the better option for that game and comes with some mod options in lighter amd heavier springs and cams. It's a delightful stick to use either HOTAS, HOSAM or HOSAS. You have to go through Aliexoress if ordering from other than US and Canada but yeh good turn around and shipping and slick product. I went from Keyboard and mouse to HOSAS with a cheap twist joystick as my left hand amd I'm loving it. Will be getting another NXT Premium for left hand when I can. Best advanced entry level stick in my honest opinion amd those of my Org most of us own at least one vkb now since this dropped.
I’ve backed since star citizen since 2015ish and have yet to try it with this stick. Maybe I’ll make that my weekend project. Get some first impressions of SC with the GNXT. Btw I’ve never heard of HOSAM, what it stand for Hand On Stick and Mouse?

@@Simenthusiast I agree I think phase three was to short and the only way to have made a lot of aUEC in phase 3 was with Torp ships. Payout was really really DPS based in Phase 3 But it was really fun!!
I got mine, pretty happy with them. The only not-smooth part is the twist, both of mine got a bit of stiction around 0 so I just lubed the area I could reach without disassembling them with Krytox 205g0, will have to see if it improves once the lube spread sufficiently.
Ok I drank the kool aid and it was good. Price wise amazing for what you get. The new sensors are totally worth it. I play more WW2 flight sims, on occasion DCS. I went with standard version no regrets. 2 weeks I got it. set up was simple. Windows configured with out the need for calibration, but i went thru the process. Now I want a new throttle LOL. DCS is now a dream with this stick. Thanks for your video.
I can relate on the x55 situation.. I have the x55 hotas.. Have never got on with the stick, but yeah, the throttle is awesome. my vkb gladiator (standard) arrives 2mo, it will pair amazingly with my x55 throttle, and I can finally lose my old stick. Similar experience with order and delivery.. 2wk turn around. I live in UK, stick being delivered from China (via vkb Netherlands office) Will come back and update how i find it in stat citizen. I actually haven't tried it with SC, been a backer since like 2014/2015 but it runs so bad on my machine i find it hard to come back to it. Maybe i'll try it again in a stream or something.
@@Simenthusiast I play through shadowpc which I've found to be really good as my machine really isn't lol. It has given me some issues with the gladiator not always being recognised, I think because shadow looks for discrete drivers for USB pass through!? when that's sorted it works great! The difference between my x55 stick and the standard gladiator is night and day, the gladiator is so much smoother, with no clunky looseness. In terms of distance flying, and clear of combat, i control the stick at the bottom, with my hand resting on the base, a bit like driving a truck with the side of my hand on the wheel, it's relaxed, and less tiring. with the stick though, it also Increases the resistance (work needed) for me to make even small course changes, this helps me smooth out the negative effects of resting tremors in my hands, by placing all movement under greater tension, saves me needing to kill the feel of the stick with dead zones. The x55 throttle works really well with the gladiator, as you suggested. The other nice thing was being able to set the throttle tension to feel like the gladiators. Overall I'm really happy with spending food money on the stick, (not that I'm advocating for going without food to get a vkb stick, but I'd not give anyone a hard time a out it. Its a great stick) will shout back in a few weeks after it's bedded in, and let you know how it's going. My thinking is very much in line with yours regarding quality, comfort, and just how good feels. thanks for the reply Jean, tc.
@@QziQza oh wow, not sure why i didn't think of that! i'm going to look into shadow pc! I'm glad you're enjoying the stick. For padding or rubber grip. - Sugru is your friend.. lol. I just spent an evening adding Sugru to my X56 buttons and grip.. lol. I did do the spring mod on the X56, and it is great, but I know the VKB is a better, more comfortable grip. If VKB Gladiator goes on sale (unlikely), I will pick it up because it does look like good value.
@@Simenthusiast Also may want to think about using sugru to make 50% throttle detent of sorts. put a little bump on the dial and a bump on the rim of the base housing that will briefly contact each other. May also want to use sugru to make the throttle dial tab more pronounced for ergonomics.
@@Simenthusiast Received them in about a week and a half. Loving both. A huge upgrade from the X52. Learning to fly with rudders is weird cause I'm constantly trying to rotate the stick. LoL!
I think it is not. The VKB Gunfighter (GF) series has own 3-point connector and you tighten grips and extensions around it with wedging piece. This NGX use own long pole and the grip cable comes through it inside the base. Where the GF doesn't have cables as the extension has three pins matching base and grip that connect all electronic.
I just bought the pro version on a whim. Pro is always better right, I hope. Lol. Now to find a throttle, the twcs is stupid expensive for what it is. Why isn't there a nice 200 dollar throttle out there, I don't understand.
I was recommended this stick by a friend who uses them in their HOSAS setup for Squadrons. I'm looking forward to the setup of the joystick, so that actually adds on a point for me. 10/10 stick! FedEx, hurry up and deliver it!
Hi William, my experience with Squadrons is that it had trouble addressing multiple devices, just something to keep in mind. I hope yoiu enjoy your new sticks!!
@@Simenthusiast The biggest problems I had were 1 - not following the (Russglish) instructions and running my joystick through a calibration when I first ran the config software. Also, 2 - the joystick had its own separate menu controlling configuration in Squadrons, and I had to put some of the annoying mandatory menu bindings for joystick controls out of the way of my flight controls. Once I figured out the Installation Guide and that Squadrons was being dumb about joysticks and menus, the rest fell into place and I'm having a great time.
@@willholt6389 nice, happy to hear you figured it out and are up and running! To set up my stick, i just watched the video they posted on the VKB Sim youtube channel. Pretty much went flawlessly.
@@Simenthusiast Yes, the aforementioned friend told me to watch 'the video' (vague, I know, but I found it) but the included slip of paper also helped clarify things greatly afterward. For anyone else getting this stick, the useless looking slip of paper in the stick box isn't useless!
The only thing is that for non-US customers (i.e. the rest of the world) this stick (premium) costs almost as much as the TM Warthog ($300 CAD), which from all I have read is a far superior stick. For example, when priced regularly (they're at gouge prices currently) I can get the Warthog stick as low as $310 CAD ($228 USD) with taxes. Costco (when in stock) is $588 CAD ($432 USD) and that includes the Warthog throttle. So for the rest of us a much better comparison is with the Warthog.
Hi Karl, i can see your point. If the price in canada is that much higher its definitely more attractive to get the warthog. When i bought my stick, right hand standard, it was 161 shipped and a warthog throttle only was 330 USD. Also, none were in stock. Like i said in the video, it's always important to buy something that you can afford, and good for you. For me, this fit my needs at the time.
@@Simenthusiast Yah, if it was half the price of the Warthog, for sure I'd go with it. For whatever reason the Warthog is about the same price here as it is in the US (even with the exchange rate). Seems the US is actually getting screwed on that price...for once ;-) I still use my trusty 21 year old Saitek X45, but am looking to upgrade as I play a lot of A10C in DCS.
I paid 228€ incl. shipping for the right handed premium NXT in Germany. The Warthog stick would have cost 299€ which is way higher than your Canadian price. Interesting to see that there are differences besides the obvious economical ones. The major advantage of the NXT is that you don't necessarily need an additonal throttle and rudder pedals and that it seems to be a higher quality build than compareable upper entry class products. To me it was worth it. Next step would be the advanced VKB or even Virpil.
@@Fr4Ged I ended up getting the NXT (paired with the TWCS throttle and Crosswind pedals) and it is a great stick. It was $265 CAD to my door. I still think they should be comparing it to the Warthog, but I take back the statement that the Warthog is the better stick.
I've got the warthog. Some people love them but I don't think it's right for me, I find the grip is comfortable and works well but I hate the gimbal and spring setup. Personally the base doesn't feel nice and the spring tension is aggressively hard, also has a huge bump in the middle which I personally find hard for fine accuracy. They are also prone to stiction due to the poor moulding on the gimbal. Some people have sanded the sharp edges off the gimbal and regreased them. luckily mine hasn't had this issue yet but I've been warned it is a very common issue, also I have heard doing the green spring mod can help a bit otherwise you can use the virpl warbrd base to upgrade it as it's compatible with the Thrustmaster warthog grip, I've just ordered the vkb gladiator Evo premium to try out though as it seems pretty good for the price
“I don’t have the pinky bound?” LOL. Thanks to your video you answered questions I was looking for. I am using a Logitech 3D pro it does the job but I too am flying DCS and want to get away from using the keyboard. YES I NEED THE TWIST STICK. Thumbs up 👍.
Douglas, glad i could be of service and entertainment :). I started on the Logitech 3D pro, great for what it is and its price, honestly. I will say the accuracy on the GNXT is above anything else I’ve ever used. Let us know if you pick one up!

Do note that the game is CPU intensive, if you up the graphics to medium or high, usually the stuff is offloaded to the Graphics card

@@Simenthusiast SC is a strange game where performance is concerned. If you look at the telemetry page, I believe the PC that historically had the highest average frames in SC was a PC with a 1080. I recommend taking some time to adjust the settings, and look up other performance guides on YT, because your rig is definitely powerful enough to run the game. P.S. I got two of these for Star Citizen :)
Hi Owen, geting it set up is a breeze. THere are no drivers to install and MSFS recognized the device right away. Binding the axis and buttons in MSFS is as simple as using the MSFS settings menu. I did turn down sensitivity on MSFS by 20%, but other than that it was a breeze. Let us know when you get it! Hope you enjoy it!
Im buying it to use with Elite Dangerous. I WANT the twist.. that is why Im buying it.. I want to set my Yaw left and right on the twist... The reason is because I have the Thrustmaster t1600m that has the stupid drift.. I hate it.. and I've been told you can fix it.. someday I'll tear the thrustmaster apart and try to fix it but now I'm buying this one.
Frank I got a video coming out this saturday on using the stick with Elite. Not sure what im going to show cause i'm currently in a transporter. However i feel like a bounty run might be more fun for a video! I hope you enjoy the stick as much as i have been.
Can you elaborate on why anyone would buy the premium? This is going to be my first stick ever. I want to get into flight Sim, elite dangerous, and squadrons.
I would say look at the picture in the video that shows the difference between the two and determine which best fits your needs. For example, if you require a rapid fire trigger, thumb stick, an analog hat, and more spring tension options, definitely get the premium. However, i didn't need, and i don't miss any of those features so im cool with the standard. Honestly though, there is no wrong choice, but if in doubt you should always get the more expensive fully loaded option, if you can afford it.
Also, I'm not sure what the base model comes with, but the premium even came with spare hat switch internal components for when my switches start to wear.
Elite dangerous is in space obviously so you have thrusters that move you in 6 directions so the up down left right thrusters would find a decent home there. I use the twcs throttle analog stick for thrusters but have had many issues making things like joystick gremlin and or target software to make things work properly. The worst part of joysticks are the issues with setting up curves and deadzones. This task can become a nightmare because you will find NO1 responds on any forum including the hotas sub reddit either because no1 knows shit about the software or... idk. So be prepared for those issues
@@pottyputter05 that's actually 1 of the nice features in star citizen.. You can set up dead zones for all axis, and the action curves for each individual axial function. I will be using this stick with my x55 throttle.. Which has pretty decent software. The stick I will likely just go with the driver, and rely on the game setting environment for adjustments.. Well that's the idea at least lol.
@@willholt6389 It shouldn't be a spare hat, the grip comes with a option to swap mini-stick and one hat if you so like. So default mini-stick that is above red 'pickle' button can be swapped with it, or you can remove mini-stick for extra hat.
I just wish they had the throttle on the left side for only stick users. Having it on the bottom feels like a ploy to keep people unsatisfied so they have to buy a throttle. But at this price point you shouldn't be trying to mess with people like this.
I thank you for all your high effort videos on this stick as i was looking into getting an upgrade from my hotas x for dcs and was thinking about the x56 but all the negative reviews etc made me consider other options and this stick paired with the TWCS throttle by thrustmaster sees like a good combo that I will look into getting. I just have one question which is if you would happen to know if im going to struggle to buy one when it comes back in stock due to demand?
Hi Guyaddy01, thanks for your kind words. It means alot. In my opinion the TWCS is probably the best, most affordable, throttle addon for your Gladiator NXT side stick. You will have trouble getting one due to all the demand right now, but it's probably worth the wait. I would go check out shopblt.com and get on their preorder list. Another option would be the thrustmaster warthog throttle, but that's just as out of stock as anything.
probably too late but I am thinking about that same setup but I already have the TWCS and its awesome for the price. Only complaint is that it can be a bit sticky but some grease will help out.
@@Simenthusiast T16k's also have a rotary pot for the twist axis that goes out, it's why I'll be buying two of the NXTs because they use a hall sensor. That "axis" in the base, it's typically a throttle
I had a T16K and the twist axis got flakey within a week of buying it. From what I've seen, this is a very common complaint. I tossed mine in the trash as I couldn't see RMA-ing it and ending up with the same cheap quality.
I've thought about this, but there are so many options and setting that it's a little intimidating. I'll reach out to VKB Sim and see if they can give us a guide through it.
@@Simenthusiast VKB has videos on this subject which is not in-depth and makes no sense to " me anyway" I have the gladiator mk2 for il2 and for DCS I just ordered the nxt standard and that shows you how much I love these sticks. I still have my x52 which I have had for 10 years now and really only use it for elite dangerous it is not very accurate for DCS anymore but i tell you it is easier to program the x52 than vkb I have the vkb manual but its too confusing for me, and I think its a loss to not be able to figure out programming of this thing because you would be missing out on the potential of the flight stick itself!
Thanks for the good review! I want to buy the VKB NXT. As i am coming from sim racing, i am completely new to flight sims. I really don't know what are the minimum analog input requirements to fly comfortably. In a sim rig tour video from youtuber gamermusclevideo i saw, that i can substitute (more or less) the flight rudder pedals with my existing racing pedals (clutch and gas have the same resistance and travel distance). Keeping that in mind, is it enough to just buy the joystick and use its integrated throttle and these two dial wheels? I want to mount the joystick in my sim rig between my legs. So in this position i could use the integrated throttle an two dial wheels with the other hand. Is this a good idea? Which advantage would an external throttle add in this scenario? I want to try MSFS2020, IL2, Star Wars Squadrons (don't have the time for DCS and Star Citizen). My main focus is sim racing, but i also want to have some fun with flight sims and don't want to spend several hundreds of euros... Would be really nice to hear your opinion!
Hi Alex, this is going to be a long reply so grab a cup of coffee and some cookies. I also started with sim racing, and hopefully I'll be able to answer all your questions. I would not just buy the joystick alone. You will 100% want a throttle for flight sim. The integrated throttle is nice for some things but it just doesn't have enough travel or positioned in a way to be fun to use a throttle full time. Mounting in the middle, miiiiiiight be a little awkward on long races, or with round wheels depending on your wheel diameter. Using your racing pedals as rudders is a good idea, but you'll have to use some software to turn 2 pedals into one. I forgot what the name of it was, joystick gremlin, or joytokey. Personally, I ended up using the joystick twist axis to control rudder, and it works just fine after tweaking for sensitivity. I wouldn't recommend the cheap Thrustmaster t rudder pedals, they're garbage, and not accurate at all. Let us know what you decide, and how it goes.
@@Simenthusiast Hi Jean, thanks for your reply! I have bought the VKB meanwhile. Good joystick, but haven't spent much time with flight sims so far. I will build something very similar to this flexible solution here: th-cam.com/video/GerxXsYWSI4/w-d-xo.html Regarding a seperate throttle: Haven't decided yet. Will try without it first. I also want to find out how my Oculus 2 VR controller will work in MSFS. Looks promising from what i have seen in videos... Thank you also for the rudder emulation software for my racing pedals!
Working on a video detailing my throttle and some throttle options. Shooting tomorrow, hopefully i can have it up for a Saturday or Sunday premiere! But to answer your question, and so you don't have to actually wait. I use a throttle from my Logitech X52 pro. It's ok for space, for DCS it just doesn't have enough inputs to keep my left hand fully on the throttle at all times. I think a better fit, for DCS, might be the Warthog Throttle or at minimum the Thrustmaster TWCS.
Did you mention, that you can buy a proper all metal Gunfighter base and use it with kosmosima grip you already have? It's a very nice upgrade path for the future.
@@AlekseyStrakhov Their FAQ clearly disclaims the opposite for the other base though. The higher end one. It makes no sense to me. If you bought like this: Gunfighter Gladiator -> Extra stick to replace gladiator -> Top of the line metal gimbal base. That's a valid upgrade path. Besides that base is the best thing they ever came up with. They might run out of them ;)
I commented on your other video saying that I bought the stick, and I really do like it. I will say that if you use the twist function for the rudder function its not good cause it isnt the smoothest twist function.
@@Simenthusiast Yeah but I do like the stick as I use its side axis for rudder as I am disabled an not able to use real rudders. So I used this stick along side my yoke. Very happy with it so far. Keep up the good Videos.
I have the Gladiator-K which is very similar and it too was a bit sticky in the twist axis when I first got it. After a month or two of break-in, it's now very smooth.
I dont see this as an entry level product with this level of functionality and price, thats more the domain of the high street chains selling sub-£100 thrustmaster stuff for gamers. This looks a really good value very functional mid-range joystick for dcs, wish it was a bit easlier to buy one in the UK.
I would agree, the only reason I'd consider it entry level is because it's made made of metal (which could be both a positive and negative), it has some non swappable parts, and there are definitely more high end sticks out there. I agree though, the value in the GNXT is incredible.
Hi Maverick, they are each individually plugged in via USB, so you should just be able to map the buttons in whichever game you're playing. The only one that gets tricky is squadrons and that's only because you have to choose which 3 devices you want the game top address.
Well considering that you can't buy the x52 or x56 throttle on their own, you're pretty much stuck looking at the Thrustmaster TWCS or warthog throttle if you're looking at traditional online retailers. If you're willing to wait, check out the Virpil VPC MongoosT-50CM2, or wait for the VKB Sim NXT Throttle modules. Right now though, i'd probably wait for the NXT modules, or get the Virpil.
I would counter what Jean says with the simple question of what do you want to play with it. If you want to play something like elite dangerous where you want fast throttle changes on a very frequent basis or a real world flight sim where you're setting throttle and jot changing it again in like 1 to 2 seconds later.
Do not buy anything yet. The VKB idea of NXG is not just joystick, but a complete modular system. They are making soon more (some new announcement are coming in few days) modules to it like button boxes, different throttles and all. That is why you can open the joystick base both sides and add more modules to it and chain them. Or you can use them as separate modules with own USB connection. Example SEM (Side Extension Module). i2.wp.com/vkbcontrollers.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/SEM3.png?resize=980%2C551&ssl=1 Check their site for more.
I'm currently using a Thrustmaster TWCS and it servers its purpose. I wish it was a little smoother and had more tension in the throttle but all the buttons work really well with DCS.
I'm going to get this after my cronus zen comes in so I can use it with my PS4 for Elite Dangerous and Squadrons. Just hope Cronus has the t.flight 4 supported by then so this will be emulating an actual stick instead of a ps4 controller. I don't trust my t.flight 4 to last. Less than a month in and I already had to return it for another due to pot jitter.
Ball and suck it! :) I got the premium right hand a few day. It' smy first flightstick since CH Flightstick Pro maybe 20 years ago? I had that one for Xwing vs. Tie Fighter, and I bought this one for Star Wars Squadrons.
I had to return the Fighterstick from CH. 1: The base was bent 2: It was simply too bulky/big at the top. Twas a shame, much better than Logitech or Thrustmaster control wise.
Here are my two cents: 15:35 T1600 sucks!! Don't get it. Why? So much throw and tension you can't even flight close to the ground without crashing. TWCS RULES!!
Fais, I had a throttle from my Logitech x52 pro, but recently swapped it out for a thrustmaster twcs. It's ok for what it is, but I think I'll wait for the VKB TECS.

You can program any button to be a shift or mode. If your game doesn't allow that, like DCS does example, then you can do it with VKB offered software.
Honestly, i'm not sure since i don't use a SHIFT mode. Paristo is correct, in DCS you can assign modifier keys. I do think the VKB Configuration software is a little not user friendly, but i did use it to take a deadzone out of the rudder twist.
@@Simenthusiast the VKB software requires little learning that what is the logic in it by GUI (tabs like Global etc). Once the small learning curve is over, it becomes easy to use. But, then comes a another learning curve that is how different things can be programmed, like example LED's in the black box or axis zones buttons (axis2buttons) or how you change the buttons order in DirectX or how to make a button register continue output as repeat until you release button etc. Like example to get a "pinky button" act as a SHIFT that if one press and holds it, it is temporary. But if it is pressed less than a 0.2 seconds it is MODE button to change to another set of buttons. And then have blackbox LED change color to inform that. That requires then just creativity to do things by knowing what is wanted. Example press longer than 0.3 seconds the MCG PRO trimmer hat and it will shift stick X and Y axis sensitivity to lower, for air refueling or landing where you get extra accuracy to perform very small controls for aircraft even when making large movements. Once one does few such tests, it becomes easy to understand and do huge amount of all kind things. And main challenge is really to know what is wanted, than how to do it. And that is good GUI design that it is easy to use, regardless is it difficult to learn.
Have you gotten proficient with the software yet? Getting it working at all yesterday was difficult and now it looks like learning to use it will be a long project.
I used it to remove the dead zone in the twist axis, but honestly, it's not a very user friendly piece of software. It's probably the worst part about the VKB Sim product. What are you having trouble with?
@@Simenthusiast well first of all getting it to even detect my stick. Downloaded an older version and it now detects it. I can’t get wizzo to work at all. Then all I did was try to set the stick so that I could change the analogue stick mode to be a button when I click it in and that took a long time.
Did you have any issues setting it up? For me the config application on their website that they say to use doesn't work for me and I can't get my stick to set up :/
I did not have any issues getting the stick set up, it was recognized will all my games right away. The only game that gave me anything weird was squadrons but that's been figured out. I would consider using a different USB port, or maybe trying on a different computer first, if that doesn't work contact VKB SIM Support.
Hi Ho Chun Wong, it's up to you. For DCS i don't use them at all, but for Flight Simulator 2020 i use them as rotaries for autopilot settings like vertical speed and altitude hold.
Not bad review, you mean ergonomics and you should research more I formation instead of saying hard plastic, the plastic is actually a high quality abs plastic, hard plastic sounds terrible.
Hi Joshua, thanks for the comment. I understand the plastic is some form of high-quality abs material, but in my humble opinion, it doesn't feel great. It doesn't really take away from the quality or the "predicted reliability" of the stick. Just a subjective opinion. Thanks again for your comment.
Man I watched you say it 3 times and I still dont understand what you are saying...directional hat or directions buttons...its no big deal...and so on. What is the distinction? Is one a 4 way switch and one an 8 way switch?
Sorry sometimes i ramble, there are not 8 way hates on the standard stick. The premium does have an analog mini stick as well as an additional hat with a push button. Check oiut the VKB SIM Site, there is a nice picture that shows the difference. i0.wp.com/vkbcontrollers.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Stand_Prem_Comp_750.jpg?fit=750%2C750&ssl=1
Hey man, would you consider this stick a massive upgrade from the X52? I'm considering the premium one for the extra thumb hat, but I am not sure to be honest. The only downside if my x52 right now is the lack of the extra 2 hats, I hate using shit keys to map extra hats on the same hat. Also, for the grip a good way to improve it is to just add a tennis racket grip tape, they really give a premium feeling to anything really.
Hi AzuAlx Ex, thanks for the tip on tennis racket grip tape. Someone mentioned sugru, but i think the grip might be better. I'll look into it. I do have another video where i compare both sticks directly. I agree with you on the shift keys, it's kind of annoying. Personally, i'm pretty happy with the upgrade. Unfortunately i can't really offer more than that. It's a good stick, does it have some faults, yes, but i do think it is better than my x52 pro.
@@Simenthusiast Thank you for the fast reply, I've seen on youtube another video of someone showing the hats being wiggly like hell, and activate almost to the very edge of the hat. I still think the price is way too high right now for this stick, it should had been 100-110 for standard and 150-160 for the premium if you ask me
@@Simenthusiast Holy hell, you are right, you guys got it cheaper in US, for EU the standard is 150 and the premium is 180, EUROS ! Witch would be like 160 dollars a d 190-200 dollars, what the hell.
I've been watching amazon stock of the CH Flight Stick and throttle to do a video on them. But something tells me they're no where near as good as the Gladiator NXT.
The T16000 Thrustmaster is pretty sub par imo, I choose to stick to using my old logitech 3d pro over using that stick, it has a terrible number of buttons they feel bad including its hat and the stick itself it springs to center way too aggressively, then theres's that stupid bright orange light at its base that turns on when ever you move the stick ugh /facepalm.
@@Simenthusiast Seriously, if you have either the X-55 or the X-52 throttle you should put it up for sale. There's a market for it from those of us who know Logitech, Thrustmaster and Virpil really suck for the price when it comes to Sticks. Literally, you would have competition. 1: Logitech's software STINKS and their parts BREAK! 2: Thrustmaster just uses VERY heavy springs so much that their Warthog stick BREAKs because of the cheap metal they use. 3: Virpil is an Electro magnetic Compatibility disaster waiting to happen. You're left with no option but to buy the stick from one brand the throttle from another and since Thrustmaster is in the 300-400 range and the Virpil version 3 sucks because it doesn't have detents we're left with the Thrustmaster TWCS which is GREAT and the X-52 and X-55 ones from Logitech.

Mate, you do not know your plastics. The plastic in the Gladiator is the best in the world. Will not crack, will not shatter, has the tensile resistance of steel.
Im 100% not a plastics expert. Im just a moron on the internet sharing my dumb opinion. The plastic feels like crap, but I will say it has held up maginificently.
I am actually glad that counter to your recommendation, VKB chose to make the whole grip section the same plastic as it is, rather than a rubbery grip. My X52's grip did not survive the heat in another country, even though it would have been fine in the US.
Honestly, i think i would eat my words now. 1 year later my stick still looks and feels brand new!
Soft rubber also sometimes has the habit of deteriorating and becoming sticky over several years.
@@MeoithTheSecond That is exactly what happened to several of my mice and the X52.

I ordered this as my first joystick specifically for Squadrons. Can't wait

Or even better then Elite, play Star Citizen. I can't play any other space flight games after play it. The feel of ever other game is highly inferior.
I kinda regret throwing out my still semi functional X52 Pro. It's insane how difficult it is to find decent gear these days with a couple of decent flight games coming out, especially here in Australia where any niche retail product disappears for months as soon as it hits shelves.
Oh no! Dude, totally agree. I’ve been itching to get hands on a t16km to test it out but there just isn’t any inventory.
Nice! Welcome to the family! LOL!
Let us know how you like it for Squadrons and if you use it solo or with a second stick or a throttle instrument
I feel like this is a solidly midlevel stick.. entery level is something like a thrusmaster Hotas X
I would say its entry level into the premium flight stick market
I would agree, I only said entry level because that's what VKB SIM describes it as. But I think you're right, it's an entry level premium stick.
Finally someone who knows how to use the word Accurate!! Thank You!

The only not-smooth part is the twist, both of mine got a bit of stiction around 0 so I just lubed the area I could reach without disassembling them with Krytox 205g0, will have to see if it improves once the lube spread sufficiently.

I live in UK, stick being delivered from China (via vkb Netherlands office)
Will come back and update how i find it in stat citizen. Peace
Its a great stick)
will shout back in a few weeks after it's bedded in, and let you know how it's going. My thinking is very much in line with yours regarding quality, comfort, and just how good feels.
thanks for the reply Jean, tc.

I believe it is actually compatible with VKBs extension, so the throw should be adjustable.
The complaints i've seen have been for the actual physical distance the stick is able to move.
@@Simenthusiast The F-16 in real life has a short throw as well. So this seems to be matching actual fly-by-wire fighters.

Some people have sanded the sharp edges off the gimbal and regreased them.
luckily mine hasn't had this issue yet but I've been warned it is a very common issue,
also I have heard doing the green spring mod can help a bit otherwise you can use the virpl warbrd base to upgrade it as it's compatible with the Thrustmaster warthog grip,
I've just ordered the vkb gladiator Evo premium to try out though as it seems pretty good for the price

P.S. I got two of these for Star Citizen :)
I just ordered one of these. Getting back into MFS after something like 20 years. How WAS it setting up with FS2020?
Hi Owen, geting it set up is a breeze. THere are no drivers to install and MSFS recognized the device right away. Binding the axis and buttons in MSFS is as simple as using the MSFS settings menu. @@Simenthusiast Can't seem to find that Elite video you mention?
Hi Antonio, the Elite Dangerous video is in the can, just need to do some final edits on it, thumbnail, and upload it. Should be out this week!
I actually agree with this, the throttle in the middle can actually get in the way sometimes, especially when using it on a table top
Got T160k set few months ago but i hate that there is only one hat at the joystick and it kinda sucks at DCS. I might get this one in a few months
The t16k does seem a little bare on inputs, would be interesting to do a comparison on that.
I tossed mine in the trash as I couldn't see RMA-ing it and ending up with the same cheap quality.
how about a review on the software and programming of these sticks nobody seems to want to touch that subject!
I still have my x52 which I have had for 10 years now and really only use it for elite dangerous it is not very accurate for DCS anymore but i tell you it is easier to program the x52 than vkb I have the vkb manual but its too confusing for me, and I think its a loss to not be able to figure out programming of this thing because you would be missing out on the potential of the flight stick itself!
use the x52 throttle paired with vkb, and rebind the throttle on the vkb to zoom in and zoom out
Thanks for the good review!

It’s basically the same grip as the space combat gunfighter mk3
Yeah but less than half the price
@@cane870 yep i assume the price difference is in the internals

@@Simenthusiast exactly what I was thinking too
It would have been helpful to discuss which throttle you're using
Working on a video detailing my throttle and some throttle options.
Wow I didn’t know that! It’s always cool to have upgrade paths!
@@Simenthusiast yep, GunFighter bases will be sold separately soon, as VKB promised.
@@AlekseyStrakhov Their FAQ clearly disclaims the opposite for the other base though. The higher end one. It makes no sense to me. If you bought like this:
Gunfighter Gladiator -> Extra stick to replace gladiator -> Top of the line metal gimbal base. That's a valid upgrade path. Besides that base is the best thing they ever came up with. They might run out of them ;)
NXT grip is incompatible with Gunfighter grips.
The connection is different.
@@paristo it's possible if you replace twist module. they told it on their forum
Have you considered trying some thin bicycle handlebar tape wrapping around the stick?
I have considered it, but honestly, it's not bad the way it is. It's not a deal breaker, but something that i found stood out to me.
I commented on your other video saying that I bought the stick, and I really do like it. I will say that if you use the twist function for the rudder function its not good cause it isnt the smoothest twist function.
I have heard others mention that the twist action can be sticky, and perhaps some grease or lubrication is in order to give it a better action.
@@Simenthusiast Yeah but I do like the stick as I use its side axis for rudder as I am disabled an not able to use real rudders. So I used this stick along side my yoke. Very happy with it so far. Keep up the good Videos.
@@smite0568 Smite, i'm glad you were able to find a way to enjoy your hobby!
I have the Gladiator-K which is very similar and it too was a bit sticky in the twist axis when I first got it. After a month or two of break-in, it's now very smooth.
why the hell does this man only have ~900 subs???
I dont see this as an entry level product with this level of functionality and price, thats more the domain of the high street chains selling sub-£100 thrustmaster stuff for gamers. This looks a really good value very functional mid-range joystick for dcs, wish it was a bit easlier to buy one in the UK.
I would agree, the only reason I'd consider it entry level is because it's made made of metal (which could be both a positive and negative), it has some non swappable parts, and there are definitely more high end sticks out there. I agree though, the value in the GNXT is incredible.
How would it work: Old Saitek X-55 Throttle + Gladiator stick?
Hi Maverick, they are each individually plugged in via USB, so you should just be able to map the buttons in whichever game you're playing. The only one that gets tricky is squadrons and that's only because you have to choose which 3 devices you want the game top address.
10:24 that drove me crazy
Seriously, love the accuracy, even a year later!
Did he mention it was hard plastic?
Its actually something that I like about the stick now. It states super clean!
What throttle would you recommend to accompany this vkb gladiator nxt?
@@pottyputter05 likely dcs stuff, X-Plane, mfs. Probably not space things except for Star Wars squadrons maybe

I’ve had the stock for about 7 months, no complaints as of yet.
Do you recommend a throttle with a gladiator?
Hey, get a throttle for sure!
What throttle do you use with this? I'm about to buy the TWCS but unsure as it's designed to be in conjunction with a different stick
I'm currently using a Thrustmaster TWCS and it servers its purpose. I wish it was a little smoother and had more tension in the throttle but all the buttons work really well with DCS.
my hotas t flight 4 died and i bought this for flight simulator 2020, how is it for fs2020?
It's really goods for FS2020, but you will have to tune down some of the sensitivity or you'll have to make super small movements.

Reuben, you're the first person to notice that! lol!
I hope you enjoy your new stick! How does it compare to your old CH Flightstick Pro?
I had to return the Fighterstick from CH.

2: It was simply too bulky/big at the top.
Twas a shame, much better than Logitech or Thrustmaster control wise.

T1600 sucks!! Don't get it. Why? So much throw and tension you can't even flight close to the ground without crashing.
TWCS RULES!!
I think it would be fun to get one, just to compare it to the GNXT. Even though they're not even in the same price point.

Jean, how do you set up the nxt? Mine came today and I’m completely lost. I have it calibrated but that’s where I hit a wall. Please help!
TheToeCutter, I'd start with making sure you're plugging in your joystick into a usb3 port. That's pretty much all you gotta do. According to the site, it's a plug and play device, so no need to configure drivers or anything like that.
@@Simenthusiast thanks for the reply Jean! I checked the manual, and it showed a usb 2 port was what it needed, but at this point, I’ll try anything. I love your videos man, to the point and no bs. Is there a shift or mode button like Gladiator MK 2 version of this stick?
I did not have any issues getting the stick set up, it was recognized will all my games right away. The only game that gave me anything weird was squadrons but that's been figured out. I would consider using a different USB port, or maybe trying on a different computer first, if that doesn't work contact VKB SIM Support.

What are the 2 rotaries next to the throttle used for?
Hi Ho Chun Wong, it's up to you. For DCS i don't use them at all, but for Flight Simulator 2020 i use them as rotaries for autopilot settings like vertical speed and altitude hold.
@@Simenthusiast Thanks! :) I'm thinking of buying it today. Do you think that the premium option is worth it over the standard?

I just can't get over the 50 dollar shipping, it's the only thing keeping me from buying a set
Is VKB Gunfighter better?
Short answer yes. Long answer is that the build quality is far far superior to the NXT and it feels much nicer

Is this really hard plastic?
Someone mentioned it was some kind of super durable plastic. It may be, but to me it feels tinny and kinda cheap. However, it does feel durable.
The T16000 Thrustmaster is pretty sub par imo, I choose to stick to using my old logitech 3d pro over using that stick, it has a terrible number of buttons they feel bad including its hat and the stick itself it springs to center way too aggressively, then theres's that stupid bright orange light at its base that turns on when ever you move the stick ugh /facepalm.
hey, wanna sell your old stick for a ridiculously low price and ship it to Brazil? XD
LOL i still use the throttle so i can't sell it just yet
@@Simenthusiast Seriously, if you have either the X-55 or the X-52 throttle you should put it up for sale. There's a market for it from those of us who know Logitech, Thrustmaster and Virpil really suck for the price when it comes to Sticks. Literally, you would have competition.
1: Logitech's software STINKS and their parts BREAK!
2: Thrustmaster just uses VERY heavy springs so much that their Warthog stick BREAKs because of the cheap metal they use.
3: Virpil is an Electro magnetic Compatibility disaster waiting to happen.
You're left with no option but to buy the stick from one brand the throttle from another and since Thrustmaster is in the 300-400 range and the Virpil version 3 sucks because it doesn't have detents we're left with the Thrustmaster TWCS which is GREAT and the X-52 and X-55 ones from Logitech.

th-cam.com/video/g8VZ8piBNBA/w-d-xo.html - Yes, the Gladiator uses the same design approach as their top of the line.
If you know what the FCC/EMC symbols in the back of your electronics means then you should be concerned about the comparisons above. Simply put, the VKB is the only one that has a CHANCE of being Electromagnetically compatible, meaning it shouldn't be affected by interference.
