    RAM was one of the first 8 tracks I ever purchased at the ripe age of thirteen. Used to lay in bed at night with the headphones on and listen to this album over and over! Never get tired of listening to it to this day over 50 years later! McCartney is beyond a doubt my favorite musician of all time - a musical genius!!!

    RAM is a masterpiece, Monkberry Moon Delight is probably the most impressive vocal performance I‘ve ever heard. Lindas Vocals sound beautiful too and add a lot of warmth. The Back Seat Of My Car was already beautiful as a demo but with the orchestral parts, it‘s one of Paul greatest songs. Too bad they cut Oh Woman, Oh Why from the album. Red Rose Speedway has the same kind of magic, especially the medley with Power Cut.

    It is great when listened to straight through, something most people rarely do anymore. It also sounds great. Recorded in NYC and not London it is an engineering masterpiece that makes me wistful for what might have been if The Beatles decamped from antiquated 1960s Abby Road to NY. John answered Paul's shots on Ram with "How Do You Sleep?" a blistering track aimed right between Paul's eyes.

    I’m so glad this video was made. I have long claimed that this was the high point of McCartney’s solo career. So many times an artist creates a masterpiece which is overlooked by both critics and fans. Billy Joel’s Cold Spring Harbor is another such record.

    • @OroborusFMA
      @OroborusFMA ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Billy Joel's entire career was a series of songs Paul might have come up with while succumbing to his worst tendencies, executed with half the talent.

      @@OroborusFMA I’m not looking for a fight but I happen to like Mr. Joel’s 70’s output; he was an extraordinary piano talent if only a fraction of the songwriter of Macca. My point was not to compare them but to show that many great albums get overlooked. Another example is the first couple Steven Stills solo efforts; again they’re great but nobody paid attention. Peace brother.

    Fresh, organic, honest - no involvement of people interested in mass appeal. In my view it's hands down the most McCartney a McCartney album can get. I really love the silliness in some of the songs. When I heard Smile Away for the first time I was rolling on the floor laughing. In my view it was a necessary album for him as it closed the Beatles chapter and opened the Wings chapter. Funnily, neither the Beatles nor Wings ever made the same impact on me as this particular album did.

Its sad to think of John or Paul releasing fantastic musical creations loaded with some snarky/sniping shots. So I'd like to think we are misconstruing some of this. Ok but then again...the Ram album cover also includes a photo of two beetles screwwing - and that is a pretty clear reference!

    It's hard to believe that many 'critics' did not care for this album. I think it is probably his best post Beatles album. Linda's voice was a wonderful addition to his new sound.

    • @robertstewart239
      @robertstewart239 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Interesting take, but I don't think it's so hard to believe that the critics didn't warm to the album at first. The Beatles had set such a high bar that an album without an immediately lovable equivalent of Yesterday or Eleanor Rigby would be considered a bit of a let down. As well as that, with George becoming the media favourite at the time after All Things Must Pass, it became fashionable to give Paul a hard time. I think it was only after the song Band on the Run came out that the critics realized that he was still a force to be reckoned with.

    • @thisplaceisazoo
      @thisplaceisazoo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robertstewart239 It seems that is the case with the 'critics'. But everyone has their own style of music that they favor. I think Too Many People and Uncle Albert are on par with most of the great Beatle songs. I much prefer those songs over Yesterday, which I wouldn't even put in my top 50 Beatle songs. To me a fan's opinion is just as important if not more so than a self described critic.

    Ram for me still remains one of PM’s best. Bought it on its release in 71 at the age of seventeen and for me it still retains a magical texture that none of his other albums quite matched. Wild Life which soon followed although not a commercial success had the same feel although not the wide arc of songs, still a treasure worth checking out. Little Lamb Dragonfly was a Ram session song that eventually ended up on Red Rose Speedway in 73, and when one becomes aware of that you see how it would still fit into the Ram album.
    Band On The Run was PM’s perfect pop band album and he was in full swing by then but it’s RAM I always go back to time and time again.
    Thanks for the professional overview of this classic solo Beatle album- well done😎👌

    Listen, Ram is my favorite album of all time, I love it, I love it so incredibly much and I do think had it been better produced, it would have been historically seen otherwise, it is literally one of the greatest albums of all time, but it lacked in production value and Linda's vocals were off to say the least, Paul needed John on this album... So had he just done a couple things differently, I think the album would have exploded in popularity to the extent where it would have been a household name today

    The BOY in Dear Boy is in actual fact Joseph Melville See Jr. (Linda McCartney’s ex-husband). The whole song is a message from Paul to him.

    oh yeah. Easily my favorite post-Beatles Paul album and I've been saying it for years. This album had a unique spirit and unity to it, as well as one great track after another. There was some mystical force working with them on this.

    Paul is just the best (for me)
    Venus and Mars is the greatest album of all time ( again : for me ) different voices , styles , arrangements melodies and the feeling is above the skies
    but yes, Ram is a total masetrpiece too , really really amazing ( the second best ever for my musical taste)

      Vale escuchar a "Dear Boy." Una hermosa composición que crece en amplitud a medida que avanza. Algo tan simple, pero tan poderoso.

    A lot of people miss the lyrics in the fadeout of the Ram On reprise: "Who's that coming round that corner, who's that coming round that bend?". It's the opening lyrics of 'Big Barn Bed', which opens the Red Rose Speedway album. It's like Paul started this song on one album and finished on the next one! Another unappreciated "first".

    A musical tour de force, apart from Paul's amazing all round musicianship, Linda really does add a new, vibrant, fun edge. So ahead of its time, lots of critics and fellow musicians just didn't get it at the time. It certainly has for me a wonderful fusion of USA and UK! It has matured like a fine Californian wine!

    Hands down the best McCartney album. It could have been recorded yesterday, it sounds so contemporary. Re ukes: George used to carry a bootload of ukes when travelling, just in case. I suspect they all did this.
