you can tell daechwita was produced and written by suga! he loves mixing traditional instruments with hip hop beats just like in "ddaeng" (a rapline song) and dead leaves (ot7 song) which are also produced by him. Prod.SUGA is always fire🔥🔥
The Daechwita MV saved my life. It’s what started the dive into Agust D, then RM, then BTS. It broke me out of the numb and despairing state I was in where I was just waiting to die. Considering that prior to this video I thought rap was my 2nd to most disliked music genre, it was quite the surprise when it opened the doors to an understanding of how intense and beautiful rap can be in the hands of someone who is an artist and musician at his core. Yoongi is still my ult bias because his music and rap are so raw and emotional and when you listen to it, you feel it. It’s what music should be and so often isn’t. As always, a lovely reaction with details that add so much to my understanding of the music and yay! For learning Korean.
Stunning, huh! Everything about this mv---Suga's rap, costumes, instruments, the palace, the car, the sword---every detail captures the epic clash between old and new. Brilliant! Daechwita was the song that obliterated my assumption that I don't like rap music. (Also, well done with the Hangul, Andrew. Just another benefit of diving down the rabbit hole.)
3:16 part where you started hearing percussion beats and said "drums," it's actually a type of cymbal (correct instrument category is gong), and in many Asian/Chinese influenced traditional music (yes, traditional Korean music and instruments derived from China (some Japanese, since it was colonized later also), bc of their historical cultural influence and general cultural influences (and dominance but also suppression) thru history in those eastern northern regions. Sorry, main point I wanted to say is it's a type of cymbal (more accurately, gong) that's delivering those beats in the intro before the drop, not drums per se, but yes, beats like what a typical leading drum beat would deliver.
OK, since I made the above comment, I felt a little nervous if I presented anything wrong, so did a bit of research for confirmation. Felt it's only responsible... So I said "cymbal," bc I was trying to use a western instrument to quickly and easily reference to the Asian instrument I was mentioning. Key point being metal based in flat/curve form. After looking up, the correct instrument type is called a "gong." In the west, most associate gongs as a big 1-piece instrument that makes these loud ominous sounds. But there are actually many sizes and shapes and usages and playing techniques, like bang head on vs a slide of the 2 pieces of metal, makes a metal swishing sound. The ones heard in the intro are smaller hand-held "pairs" of gongs that make these faster beats and higher/sharper metallic sounds. "Gong/Cymbal Difference" A glockenspiel can be played to sound like a celesta, and an electric guitar to sound like an oboe, but they are also different instruments. A cymbal is mounted by its centre, a gong by its rim. That's probably the most obvious difference." An example. th-cam.com/video/wXioOGtBH9A/w-d-xo.html Another example. 8:30 part. th-cam.com/video/U4q607GGQo8/w-d-xo.html See the ladies with the hand-held gongs. Those are the sounds heard in the song intro hype-up before the drop. The brass on the high playing the tune... OK, nevermind, going too deep. Note, this particular percussion group (quite famous) is contemporary style. The traditional sounds, beats, tunes, are commonly found these days at temples and any progressional events, and wider use in the old days, like Daechwita's historical military background. (Disclaimer, each instrument has their own proper names, I just didn't go deep to get it all with the translations, so I just loosely used hand-held gong for a quick description... please don't come at me... haha. Also, Chinese names and Korean names are different, esp. phonetically, though some words may share some same/similar Chinese character background/origin... Boy, the history between Chinese and Korean culture is... then later Japanese influences in more modern times... well, that's for another day and topic...) (Time passed by...) Going down a rabbit hole of various videos now... haha... deviating further away from the original point, but it's fun for me to reminisce and re-appreciate Chinese/Korean/Asian traditional music. This is an orchestral level layout of a full range of Chinese instruments, you hear all the types of sounds in this setting. The drums are more prominent in this piece bc it's being featured. th-cam.com/video/1LqmIpkgP98/w-d-xo.html Well, maybe not useful or interested by viewers here, but this was fun, going down memory lane and marvel at history and culture...
OMG, I just realized the last sample, 3rd one, while it's a full orchestra, it's all middle school kids (the group name written at the bottom left in the beginning). While still very good, the isn't quite advanced like professional levels. When I looked at it earlier, my volume was set low. I picked it bc it was a whole setup with all instruments. Now I am listening to the audio louder more clearly, I can see it's not professional orchestra... ha... but very good for students already!
@@deliaconny Haha... It really was just "a bit"... had to stop myself, or my comment above will never end! I'm no pro, but knew the various styles and commonalities growing up around that environment and seen the various Asian country's influence in each other from olden times. Not downplaying Korean or any other Asian cultures, but it's the reality that Chinese culture was the main "high culture" (remember one of RM's acceptance speeches?) in the region, that's why a lot of cultures have basis derived from Chinese. Japan was a separate island, and they developed their own culture and language some 800+ years ago, so they are more distinct (but their written language, are still mixed with Chinese characters with their own Japanese characters). Korea wasn't as powerful and was also war-ridden and geographically tucked on the side along that big continent, and didn't develop their own written language until much later than Japan, and geographically also closer to China, so a lot of culture and traits share more common history. You see a lot of Chinese food influence in Japanese and Korean foods, one of the most obvious cultural examples, food. That's why even till today, all Koreans, even if they don't know the Chinese language, they all still have a Chinese name written in Chinese characters, just pronounced in Korean. It's interesting to me when being more exposed and learn more of current Korean culture, I see some older traits are more Chinese, but more modern outside influences have more Japanese traits, then later more US western influences post-war. Even some words they use today, you think it's Korean, but is actually Japanese from colonial times. Same thing as some other Asian countries. Taiwan is also Chinese dominant culture (people came from the mainland decades ago, I'm using "Chinese" in the context of culture and history, not in the political sense, disclaimer since it's a sensitive topic in modern times), and then during Japanese colonial rules, also had influences. The most funny word I find commonality is "refrigerator"... Korean and Taiwanese (another dialect that's different than mandarin that's the official language in Taiwan) uses the same pronunciation from Japan. And when Taiwanese and Mandarin Chinese speaking people learn Korean, a lot of nouns sounds similar, or the words used are the same, just different pronunciation. Very fascinating how history influence over centuries turn out in our modern times. It's interesting when Korean entertainers, be it singers, actors, hosts, etc. go to Taiwan/China/Hong Kong to promote (not so much China/Hong Kong these days after China blocked out Korean entertainment influences), they have to learn their name in Chinese pronunciation for the same written words. Like RM's name. Kim Nam Joon. 金南俊 in Chinese. 김남준 in Hangul characters. But the 3 Chinese characters are pronounced "Jeen Nan Jueen" (my own phonetics in plain English alphabet, not official, official phonetics spelling with letters is "Jīn nán jùn" with different tone pitches). Oh, remember the Idol remix intro performance in MMA 2018? The dancers with hooded tiger head and cloth body with 2 people together, that dance is also traditional Chinese. Usually performed during Chinese New Year (Korea celebrates lunar new years and Chuseok, both are from Chinese origins, but Japanese never adopted the lunar calendar, which I find this evolving cultural history really fascinating, how some kept the same traditions (with localized variations developed), while others developed on their own.). A lot of Asian and especially South East Asia, many still celebrate these holidays. I was looking up for 舞龍舞獅 (what it's called in Chinese, literal translation is dancing dragon dancing lion) performances, and a lot from the likes of Singspore, Malaysia also. OH MY GOSH... my train of thought just went down another rabbit hole! Too much rambling! Pulling back out... stop stop... haha... (must be my coping mechanism... thinking out loud)
Your whole explanation here is absolutely fascinating and I really really appreciate the depth you went into!!! I think I said drums in the beginning when I meant percussion, but also because I thought I heard something besides "cymbals". It turns out it's just the type of sound this type of gong gives and I LOVE these details. Thank you so much for that thorough explanation!
The sound, the visual, the performance and the concept of this song are just ingenious. On every single level it is incredible. Mind blowing. It’s a complete cultural reset. Suga is definitely my bias wrecker but I don’t think there is anyone out there who wouldn’t be wrecked by this MV.
You are the first one I've seen so far who recognized jin and jk😂 Love it. But I guess that is why no one I know ever reacted so late to this masterpiece 😋💜🫰
I personally feel like the Bookish Theories explanation video is more accurate to the true meaning behind the music video than the DKDK TV explanation video, but the DKDK TV version does do a good job of explaining all the historical references in the song, even though the Bookish Theories version makes a connection between those references and Suga’s personal history.
Well, this was a surprise...I just love how curious and appreciative you are!! I have watched quite a bit of BTS reactions at this point and, I have to say, so many people see the language barrier more as an issue rather than an opportunity to learn - granted, we don't have to jump at each and every one, but sometimes having a deeper understanding of something can show you so many new ways of enjoying it! I'm so proud of you for trying! Thank you for inspiring people to expand their horizons yet again - I have not regretted watching a single video of yours!🤗
Thank you so much!! I look forward to your comments every week 😀 But I agree, I feel like I always assume the role of "teacher" in the videos so it's really fun to learn something I'm just so unfamiliar with
To me the funniest part about Jin and JK's cameo is that the "fight" is actually quite similar to their iconic "handshake". 😆 Loved the musical breakdown as always. 💜 (And editor - you continue to crack me up! 😂👍)
@Andrew Berg here's a quick compilation of them doing their special "handshake" --- fair warning though, there is very little hand shaking in it 🤭 th-cam.com/video/KRvUVmETQQc/w-d-xo.html
Relatable mood the whole video! This song is one (of many) I could just discuss and dissect on so many levels. The complexity of the musical styles he used is so unique and how he created tension in the song. Lyrically and visually he had layers like the whole tension between the blonde Mad King (old Suga) and black haired young Suga and killing his own inner greedy angry king and becoming the young rebel man of the people. The layers of historical references alone…. Ugh. Such a god dang masterpiece and he looks so so cool and badass. The King and the Boss indeed. One note not in many explanation videos he used a Colt Army pistol, nothing is ever just a coincidence with these boys. He also paid for all this out of his own pocket and originally it was supposed to be a smaller idea but he wanted a grand movie like story board he came up with. His brain fascinates me and I love your explanation of the bridge sector rapping. FYI Sugas got an Instagram post up today playing a Sakamoto piano piece that is really lovely.
in regards to Busuu, this is so funny: a little less than a year ago I quit my Busuu subscription because I wanted to focus on learning Korean and they didn’t have it yet. So in my quitting note I wrote that it would be really great if they could add Korean! It is great to learn from you that they apparently have added Korean now :) the best feature of Busuu is the actual exchange between learners and the peer corrections for written or oral exercises! That distinguishes Busuu from other apps
I really appreciate the gong giving the tonic of the chord and being the foundation for all of the other instruments to play off of. It's amazing instrumentation and not something we really do in the west. It would be like having the timpani be the star of the show. So cool
Yes, That is Jin & Jungkook. You'll see them when you watch the behind the scenes. There are a few 'behind the scenes, including the one where Yoongi learns the 'Sword Dance'. That he learned in 2 days. I'm glad you're gonna do an explication. There's so much in this that, as non-Koreans, we would never know.
Suga explained that Daechwita is not about the lyrics and more about the music and his rapping. In the video there’s a king who’s gone mad and those who are rebelling, the other Suga. He made a deal with the butcher to take down the king. There’s so many things happening in this video. I remember when it dropped… oh how the internet broke that day. There was just a very loud silence from armies after the mv finished from shock. That is Jin and Jk fighting, they came as a cameo and I believe Hobi also visited during filming. Btw it was filmed at the Daejanggeum Park, just like a small traditional city they casually built that is used by most dramas and mv’s and almost every person in the world visits when they go to South Korea. You know, nothing big lol😂 I’m impressed you’re learning Korean! When I first started I saw Hangul and was like “…what am I even looking at?” But it got easier to read over time! I’m happy you’re learning and don’t ever feel discouraged! I think the hardest part was actually pronouncing them correctly for me. Your pronunciation was a little off but no worries since you’re beginning! Fighting! Also that iconic part in the song is just 🤌 *chef’s kiss*
It's awesome that you're starting to learn Korean! And I'm very interested in that Busuu program, so thank you for sharing. And if you haven't heard, Hybe just released a Korean learning app called Cake, and I believe the lessons will be BTS themed, which will be cool. I've downloaded it but haven't started yet (story of my life lol.)
Thanks Andrew. Glad to hear that you will be doing the explanation video somewhere, even if not on youtube. The meaning behind this song, especially from a Korean perspective ... well, you don't want to miss it!! ARMY grandma
The MV is so good! It is crazy how much symbolism is in it… Some things I noticed that I don’t think I have seen really many touch on is this: -He goes back and forth between rapping like aggressive and raspy to not as much almost each line. -When he says the word Deawticha he actually says it it differently back and forth. I believe he is saying if formally and informally. This might resemble him being the mad king without respect and then his other side being respectful or respected by the people… -The gun is a 'Colt m1860 Army. -Agust D aka Suga aka Yoongi said that doesn’t actually know it he killed the mad king…so that can still be up to date. -Agust D’s hat: When dark-haired Agust D makes his entrance, he is wearing a “sat gat” rather than a regular “gat“. A “sat gat” is usually worn for two reasons: as protection from the rain or to hide one’s identity.
I love that you’re learning Korean! I’ve been studying on my own for a couple of years now. Learning Hangul itself was so fascinating to me and learning Korean is still my top hobby.
Yay so glad you finally got to see Daechwita!! This was the song/MV that really made me a Suga bias 😀. Hope you’ll be able to listen to the rest of AgustD’s D2 mixtape soon too, so good. Can’t wait to see your reaction to the SoWooZoo perf on Patreon!!! Have been really enjoying your new “learn music” series, looks like you put a lot of time and effort into the videos and they came out great! Also cool to see the new sponsor, learning about other languages is so interesting and fun! I’ve been learning Korean and Japanese and hoping to get to use them while traveling…maybe next year, fingers crossed. It’s been sooo long with the pandemic (and a toddler).
Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Really good song! Catchy. Very much a movie. This was all Suga's idea. His vision. They hired ppl who made his vision come to life. He is such a boss! I remember we were all speechless. Like my god his brain. King! Love the vibe. Suga kills it every time. The autotune is sick in this. Love it. The live version didn’t have an in-person audience but it was live streamed to 1.33 million people around the world. Hugs. -2019 ARMY NY USA 💜 Like Renee Zemlock said on 12.20.20; Daechwita was the traditional music played to let people know when the King or the royal military was coming through. Yoongi has said that the King represents his past self, the greedy selfish part of who he used to be, and the peasant is his more humble present self. Also, the butcher in the beginning is also the executioner; their look exchanged at the beginning of the vid was them plotting the betrayal and execution of the King. Also, the antique gun he used to shoot the King.... is legitimately called Army. =0) Mark said on 3/18/22 The music at the beginning and sampled throughout actually is Daechwita. It’s traditional ceremonial, military music often used to announce the presence of the king. I think it translates to ‘great hitting and blowing’. Yoongi/Agust D is playing two aspects of himself. The mad king (also called Anger) is himself from the time of his first mixtape ‘Agust D’ released in 2016, and the rebel commoner is himself now (well, in 2020). There are six others in his ‘gang’, representing the other members of BTS, and the young woman who presents him with the car keys embodies ARMY. The revolver he uses at the end is a Colt ARMY revolver from 1860. He has suggested that maybe he didn’t actually ‘kill’ his former self, at least not completely. Yoongi’s three named personas (Min Yoongi, Suga and Agust D) are distinguishable from one another as well as being aspects of the same personality. There’s also a huge amount of cultural and historical reference which is best left to the explanation videos. berha said on 3/18/22 "I wish I knew what that said" - it basically says Daechwita written in Chinese characters. Chinese characters were used for the Korean language before the Korean alphabet was invented. The three characters literally translate to "big," "blow," and "hit" - referring to the royal marching band procession and instruments used in Daechwita. (Suga and the 2 butchers) is pivotal to the plot of the MV, interesting you picked it! The butcher is the executioner. Suga is making a deal with him in the market place for the end of the video. (And editor - you continue to crack me up too! 😂👍)
Yes Yes .. Yoongi’s another master piece which broke all the records at the time of release and still nailing it ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Thanks for this reaction 💜💜
Woo! Yeeaah, Daechwita broke a lot of ppl when it came out. 😁 I love his choice of instruments and how he chose to use them. Extra brownie points to that cymbal at the beginning! 🥰 And the flow switch-ups! Looking forward to the livestream with the explained video! Shoutout to Editor Bree for the decrescendo save! 😂 cfa
I visited the filming site earlier this month during my stay in Seoul. Was almost as epic as the MV and they have information boards for it. And ye, it is Jin and JK
Andrew! I'm so proud of you for catching Jin and Jungkook on your first viewing. So many people on first watch didn't catch that, many being reactors too 😂 This song is a masterpiece and I loved seeing your reaction and analysis as always ♥
Sooooo much going on here.., historical references, amazing lyrics, hilarious Bang PD shout out, mad king Yoongi vs modern rebel Yoongi… sword dance… I could go on. Defo watch the explanation video and then let us know what you thought! Yoongi stands 4eva 💜
안드루, 너 한국 말해. 화이팅! (Andrew, you speak Korean. Fighting!) As a fellow student, I would like to recommend the four Korean videos in Forever Fluent. I found it incredibly helpful for the correct "embouchure" for Korean sounds. They also have an app for ear training, (along with vocab, and language learning) if you want to get really serious. One small error, you said 자는 (sleep) instead of 저는 (I). The vowel sound in 저 sounds like the o in Johann Sebastian Bach. Everything else sounded really good and natural. BTW, I find you incredibly brave to speak it. I am very self conscious to speak any foreign language. It takes all the courage I can muster to speak to a new teacher or in a new class of fellow students.
I love Daechwita! Even my brother who doesn't really like BTS loves this song. It's so fire. I would love to see you break down their song Louder than Bombs. It has so much tension in it I feel like holding my breath. How do they do that???
THIS is the song that made me realize that Suga, RM and Jhope are the ONLY rappers I like to listen to, with the exception of one American rapper...so it would seem that I have a rap bias LOL. That switch in his flow when he is surrounded by torches is my favorite part of the song. It's very lyrical - as in his words have musical notes - that I just don't hear in American rap. IDK...I can't explain it very well... 😅
1:48 as soon as i read "it's okay" as the phrase, my brain started singing 괜찮아 ... 자 하나 둘 셋 하면 잊어 [chorus of 2!3!] 🥹 "so badass" yeah, that feels fitting for the song and the MV, for sure! I love seeing you go through the various stages of discovering this song, and how the music just took you in. 3:55 oohh wow, eagle-eyes!!! most people miss the cameo of Jin and JK at first 5:39 on my second watch i noticed that you talked about how immersive the MV is, drawing the viewers in, and then later on you talk about how the music does the same thing, too... just thought that was really neat 😁 6:48 the moment Andrew realised just how badass this video and concept is 8:25 yeah, an explanation for all those references will definitely be helpful. Looking forward to the live stream! 10:00 it is THAT part!!!! it's so good! no wonder it is the most replayed part 😂 also, i appreciate how you are still able to turn that into a mini music lession, kudos, seriously. 12:33 the snapping is back! yay! 😁 14:15 "what" yup... when i saw that for the first time, i think i had the same reaction... and then it made me think about what that tells us, considering yoongi played two roles in this story... but i guess we'll get more into meanings and connections during the livestream on Saturday Loved watching this, thank you so much! 💜 🥕 CFA
Ohhhh you talking about how immersive the music and video is gives me ideas for another video.... 🤔 About the snapping!! I actually tried to talk about the rhythms, articulations, and diction Yoongi has and how he uses it to make that part better and I did a whole thing with snapping.... and then Bree and I kind of realized that I didn't really explain very well or get the point across all the way so I honestly think I could do an entire video at this point just on that section 😅
Watching your facial expressions we can see you are processing so much all at once! You are a great reactor. I'm always very interested in the music knowledge you share with us. Just now rewatched the video by Bookish Theories that was suggested here. So interesting and fun! I'll share my interpretation of the 6 gang members we see in the street with Peasant Suga, and if you consider it a spoiler, you can skip it now and come back to it later. . . . Can you guess? at 6:30-3:36 and later: 1. hand on his bucket hat, looking down 2. headband bandana print clashing fashionably with plaid shirt 3. solid grey coordinated jog suit, headband tied uniquely, making Victory gesture 4. blocked from view during dancing; at 6:22 wearing jeans jacket 5. baseball cap, soft white jacket, off the shoulder at 6:23 6. short bleached hair, totally black outfit Answers: 1. shy in public JK 2. fearless fashion-forward j-hope 3. stylish suits + unique detals V 4. college vibes Jin 5. cute soft Jimin who can, on the other hand, act tough like Tony Montana 6. leader RM DKDKTV says the fashionably dressed girl (6:22-6:24 and 6:25-6:26) is ARMY, which makes sense for obvious reasons, and because she holds the key to the car (=their success).
The song is amazing prefect🔥 the visual.. the story talen.. the lirick.. the beat.. the flow.. the everything awesome ..incredible .. suga is genius.. he got unique voice.. the best producer.. songwriter.. composer.. masterpiece.. multitalented.. fast rapper.. king swag.. king of stage.. love suga so much 🥰😍💜
I don't know!!! I try to space out the solo songs and everyone recommended I start with First Love, then we did Persona Shadow and Ego together, and then That That because it was new and relevant... 😅 I'm just glad I didn't put this one off again!
Again my comment in parts: 1) You with your sponsors are the cutest person ever. 2) Thank you for the video and the explanations. I enjoy them always so much. Please, don't think that you explain too much, you talk, we enjoy and learn. 3) In the drecrescendo part, also appears the Bang PD drawing that Jungkook inventend in a Run BTS, so maybe it'll be disappointing to you, but maybe people wants to stop and re see the drawing. 4) The soft part in Idol drives me crazy, and maybe it's not a big thing, but for me this part and the one when he sings after express the feminine and masculine sides of Jimin side by side in a fantastic way. I know that you'll analyze Idol one day. 5) Oh, man, my head will be singing Daechwita for days again...
you should watch 'august d daechwita explained by a korean'. it does an excellent job of explaining the korean history & other things in the video. love your reaction" 2 we
Agust D is bad a$$, the MV is bad a$$, the lyrics, flow and cadence kick a$$. That’s a lot of a$$e$ coming from this cute as a button but fierce, rap god individual 💜❤️😞

The Sowoozoo version shocked and delighted EVERYONE! Did not see it coming.
My favorite thing in this song is that there's only one constant beat but Yoongi uses his voice tone and delivery to add so much nuance 🥰

YES! This entire MV is done at the absolute highest tier
@@AndrewBergSax nods. Suga blew all of us away. We talked about this song and MV for months.
I also absolutely love the moment when he gets more quiet. I don't know much about rap, but I think that moment is so impressive
I could listen to that section forever.
Yes!! It draws me on so much that I can't look away
He also goes super fast! I think that’s another reason it’s the most replayed section…it’s hard to read that fast. 😂
One of my favorite MVs of all time! Song too. I love that the beat stays mostly the same but he adds so much dynamically with his rapping!

Loved the musical breakdown as always. 💜
(And editor - you continue to crack me up! 😂👍)
Haha what handshake are you referring to?! I must find out more 😀
@Andrew Berg here's a quick compilation of them doing their special "handshake" --- fair warning though, there is very little hand shaking in it 🤭

I just jumped over to watch…absolutely beautiful.
It’s sakamoto at the start and then transitions to his Seesaw demo version. It’s so good.
@@justnic3305 That makes it even better! I thought part of it sounded familiar lol.
That was such a great explanation!! I love learning these kinds of details. And I watched that piano performance earlier today! Absolutely beautiful
You know you are army when you recognize the cameos immediately
So many people miss them the first time!
Hahahaha that expression Jin makes was just impossible to miss 😂
in regards to Busuu, this is so funny:
a little less than a year ago I quit my Busuu subscription because I wanted to focus on learning Korean and they didn’t have it yet. So in my quitting note I wrote that it would be really great if they could add Korean! It is great to learn from you that they apparently have added Korean now :) the best feature of Busuu is the actual exchange between learners and the peer corrections for written or oral exercises! That distinguishes Busuu from other apps
Yes, I completely agree! It also feels more thought out and organized than some of the other popular apps
I really appreciate the gong giving the tonic of the chord and being the foundation for all of the other instruments to play off of. It's amazing instrumentation and not something we really do in the west. It would be like having the timpani be the star of the show. So cool
Ohhhh this is such a good point!! I didn't even catch that on the first listen 🤯
@@AndrewBergSax There was a lot happening 😹 I had to give it a play or two before I got it. The whole MV is cinematic
That's awesome! And I'm excited to see an explanation video 😀
You know, nothing big lol😂
I’m impressed you’re learning Korean!
Me too. Daechwita, Lie and House of Card are my top favorites, together with Singularity.
OMG you caught the Jin JK cameo!! Wow, not many people do (I didn't either the first time)
Hahaha it was Jin's bewildered face that I noticed 😂
Thanks Andrew. Glad to hear that you will be doing the explanation video somewhere, even if not on youtube. The meaning behind this song, especially from a Korean perspective ... well, you don't want to miss it!! ARMY grandma
The MV is so good! It is crazy how much symbolism is in it…
Some things I noticed that I don’t think I have seen really many touch on is this:
-He goes back and forth between rapping like aggressive and raspy to not as much almost each line.
-When he says the word Deawticha he actually says it it differently back and forth. I believe he is saying if formally and informally. This might resemble him being the mad king without respect and then his other side being respectful or respected by the people…
-The gun is a 'Colt m1860 Army.
-Agust D aka Suga aka Yoongi said that doesn’t actually know it he killed the mad king…so that can still be up to date.
-Agust D’s hat:
When dark-haired Agust D makes his entrance, he is wearing a “sat gat” rather than a regular “gat“.
Hugs. -2019 ARMY NY USA 💜
Like Renee Zemlock said on 12.20.20;
Daechwita was the traditional music played to let people know when the King or the royal military was coming through.
=0)
Mark said on 3/18/22
The music at the beginning and sampled throughout actually is Daechwita.
There’s also a huge amount of cultural and historical reference which is best left to the explanation videos.
berha said on 3/18/22
"I wish I knew what that said" - it basically says Daechwita written in Chinese characters.
And the flow switch-ups!
Looking forward to the livestream with the explained video!
Shoutout to Editor Bree for the decrescendo save! 😂

Andrew! I'm so proud of you for catching Jin and Jungkook on your first viewing. So many people on first watch didn't catch that, many being reactors too 😂
This song is a masterpiece and I loved seeing your reaction and analysis as always ♥
Oh! You did the thing and put some things in the background to show your inspiration and personality ! Yes!
Are you referring to my bookshelf? 😀
Yes!!! I'm enjoying learning Korean myself, and I find it so satisfying!
It is so much fun to learn! And it has been so intuitive to me so far 😀
The consensus seems to be that the three heads are the Big 3 companies in Korea. I like that analogy.
안드루, 너 한국 말해. 화이팅! (Andrew, you speak Korean. Fighting!)
As a fellow student, I would like to recommend the four Korean videos in Forever Fluent.
Thank you so much for these tips, I really appreciate it!!! 💜
YEAAH I CHOSE THE RIGHT ONE IN THE VOTES 🎉😂
I love Daechwita! Even my brother who doesn't really like BTS loves this song. It's so fire.
I would love to see you break down their song Louder than Bombs. It has so much tension in it I feel like holding my breath. How do they do that???
This reaction was so chaotic lmao! Super endearing
ah, yes. the "I should learn some Korean" is the counterpart to "I just want to know their names". heheh
자 하나 둘 셋 하면 잊어 [chorus of 2!3!] 🥹
"so badass" yeah, that feels fitting for the song and the MV, for sure!
I love seeing you go through the various stages of discovering this song, and how the music just took you in.
3:55 oohh wow, eagle-eyes!!! most people miss the cameo of Jin and JK at first
5:39 on my second watch i noticed that you talked about how immersive the MV is, drawing the viewers in, and then later on you talk about how the music does the same thing, too... just thought that was really neat 😁
6:48 the moment Andrew realised just how badass this video and concept is
8:25 yeah, an explanation for all those references will definitely be helpful. Looking forward to the live stream!
10:00 it is THAT part!!!! it's so good! no wonder it is the most replayed part 😂
also, i appreciate how you are still able to turn that into a mini music lession, kudos, seriously.
12:33 the snapping is back! yay! 😁
14:15 "what" yup... when i saw that for the first time, i think i had the same reaction... and then it made me think about what that tells us, considering yoongi played two roles in this story... but i guess we'll get more into meanings and connections during the livestream on Saturday
Loved watching this, thank you so much! 💜
🥕 CFA
Ohhhh you talking about how immersive the music and video is gives me ideas for another video.... 🤔
About the snapping!!
@@AndrewBergSax oh, another video? 👀

3) In the drecrescendo part, also appears the Bang PD drawing that Jungkook inventend in a Run BTS, so maybe it'll be disappointing to you, but maybe people wants to stop and re see the drawing.
