I'm definitely under the more casual reefer category but I listen to you guys and your endless knowledge because one day because there are little things that I can take away from you and your guests because I imagine I will be as deep as you guys are into the hobby some day.
thanks dude! I can maybe try to take a moment here or there to break down certain things (I already understand but some listeners my not) before my guest elaborates. I'm hoping the podcast can still appeal to beginner and intermediate hobbyists as well.. ;)
What a humble and awesome human being. Great listen Also, would you consider sending a piece of your live rock if i were to make an order, imstead of putting it under your porch? 😂
It’s crazy because I pull outside air through my skimmer at our Apartments. I always wanted to filter the air with carbon or something, but never did. Our landscaping company comes out with weed-eater’s, leaf blower’s, lawnmower’s, etc…all right by the window where the skimmer intake hose is. This one Mexican lady is absolutely anal with the stupid leaf blower. She will hang around my window for hours (there’s a courtyard) trying to blow every freakin’ leaf away right by the skimmer intake line. All this equipment is gas too. 🤦🏼♂️ Never had a problem yet surprisingly. As much as they come out and maintain the property you’d think my tank would have crashed by now. Seems like every 2 weeks I hear them getting after it. Still continue to see decent growth and colors. Although I do believe now that you can surely overdose a system with organic carbon even if you’re nitrates aren’t coming down and you’re slowly going up w/o any spike. It can get to a point where too much bacteria is in the water column, and nitrates aren’t coming down due to prolonged exposure to heavy feeds and poor nutrient export.
Regarding carbon dosing and selectively feeding the right bacteria…have you heard Lou from TM talk about their carbon dosing products. They claim to have a special polymer that does just that

I use Tropic Marin NP Bacto Balance for my carbon dosing. I like it.
Thanks guys
Really informative and interesting again 👍
I’m not using carbon much anymore. Ever since I added Ozone, my water is crystal clear. And the corals seem to be doing much better.
Dang I live in northern Illinois. Gonna have to look into CC.
Thanks for a great episode! What’s the name of the Lysmata species you in your quarantine tanks for flatworm eradication?
Kuekenthali, but they don't eat regular AEFW's as far as I know, just the NAEFW's
