Everyone lost the happiness due to old fashioned method of parents promises of fixing the marriage of their children as soon as they are borne in some societies. Very sad !

I did not understand the ending. What was the point of this when Ahmed didnt go to Birmingham?
Here Maya is shown to be the victim and she is one. But Claire is the bigger victim 1) she was the first wife. 2) Ahmed did not live with Claire or his child for 9 years, he lived with Maya. 3) Imagine letting ur husband marry another woman and having her children.
So whatever happened to Maya was sad but he could have been a better father and husband to his first wife and continued visiting the other children in dhaka like he did.
