@03:30, I just discovered the "Preview" bus cannot be assigned manually. After deleting the bus when I want to bring down the preview volume, I created another bus named "Preview" or anything else, and assigned the preview channel to this bus, it did not do anything, not even muted. So I think it might be wise to leave these default buses alone.
Much thanks for these vids brother... this coming from a musician who wants to know how to record but was terrified when looking at these recording program interfaces at first. You break it down and describe things very well.
Dude, Just gotta say thank you for the work brother. This helped me get started with cakewalk. You did an awesome job of explaining from the beginning. A lot of these videos jump in to the middle and don't tell you how they got there. Great Job and hope to see more
Thanks for the video bro! I just bought Sonar Professional 2015. and there's Lots to learn. I wish Cakewalk would have a video series of recording a song from start to finish. Most of what I see are features and functions of Sonar..
helpful....thx....I need to learn how to use an electronic drum set to trigger session drummer 3 in sonar x3. I've read about drum mapping etc. but am totally lost. assigning midi notes to each drum? all very confusing. I have been able to do some simple stuff with my korg m50, playing keyboard sounds. tomorrow I am getting an Alesis dm7x e-drum set and want to play and have fun, not struggle with the software. Thanks man.
+Mixer University I've actually got it to work except for one problem...no matter what drum kit or bass drum sound I load, my bass drum sounds like a wood block. I've got postings on cakewalk forum and home recording forum to try and find a solution, if there is one.
The "Metronome" controls the volume of the metronome, so it can be adjusted separately (if you remove its bus, it will use the Master), "Preview" is used to adjust the volume when you are previewing samples in the Media browser. You can change which Bus these functions use in their respective options panel.
@@Le5sterleCheMiDevi Hello. I just found I cannot set previews to a bus I create. It seems it has to be the default "Preview" bus. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!
@@rocren6246 Sorry, I don't have Sonar right now (I've ended up buying Cubase), and I can't find anything online, or searching the online manual. Have you tried renaming the newly created BUS "Preview" and assigning that?
@@Le5sterleCheMiDevi Hi. Thank you very much for taking the effort and replying. I have tried renaming the newly created bus as Preview, but still it doesn't do anything. I have also tried assigning preview channel to other buses with the Original "Preview" bus untouched, and the only bus that controls the preview is always the original"Preview" bus. I guess this is the kind of setting the developer doesn't want users to mess up with.
@@rocren6246 At this point it may be a bug. There are other bugs that were not fixed from the passage from Sonar to Cakewalk by Bandlab, like a weird glitch in rendering waveforms, and "popping" MIDI notes in the Piano Roll while navigating, to name a few.
this would be a great tutorial for someone that already knew how to use Sonar X2. As for me, I'm more lost now than before... (and I work at a radio station in production)
Sean TwentyFour Sorry man. I try to explain it as best as possible, but sometimes it just doesn't jive. How much recording experience do you actually have?
I didn't mean to sound offensive, just confused. I think it's because of the different software and language used in the industries (radio me vs audio engineers you). Started recording professionally in 1992. Your tutorials are starting to make sense when I watch them in order. Keep it up, great work.
my personal input: a little more explanation (if possible) on specific things you are clicking on, and a lamen's terms of what they do. I saw a lot of clicking and opening of things with no explanations... that was it.
thanks for a such amazing video. Sorry, but i did nit get how did u record the drum on 17:30. I tried to press on the drum kit, but noyjing records, hope you understand what i mean:(
Hey there. Thanks for putting the effort in with the videos. I've just started and your explaining it in a way that I understand. Just a note. I wasn't getting any sounds out of the media browser when trying to preview them. I worked out it's because in one of your first steps when setting up the BUS you deleted the preview bus. That is the bus that previews the sounds! So i'm wondering why you deleted that BUS then re-assigned it to your main BUS a bt later in the tutorial when picking sounds for Session Drummer. Is there a reason that I don't understand. Keep up the good work
Mine doesn't output sound. I don't have the option for audio control option for selection. I followed the instruction really carefully. I don't know what is wrong, I use a headphone.
Why wont the buses show? the one on the left at 6:07 theres 2 bars the right one doesnt show and on the right side theres 4 buses and the on that you dragged to come in doesnt show why?
Nanar Oknaian I'm not really sure what your asking, but let me explain a little more what's going on at 6:07. Currently, there are no AUDIO or MIDI tracks showing. There are only the BUS tracks. The BUS tracks are named (from left to right) MASTER, MUSIC, & DRUMS. The track to the far right is the AUDIO INTERFACE -- which is the final master of them all. That track is named AUDIOKONTROL1. The one on the far left is track inspector. It always shows the "current" track that is selected. As far as I can see in this video, all of the tracks are showing. I'm not sure if you're having trouble with Sonar, but you can always send a screen shot of your issue...
Nanar Oknaian Oh yes, that happens sometimes with audio interfaces. Sometimes you have to unplug and then plug them in again for a daw software to recognize it. Glad you got it figured out!
need help, I am new to sonar x2. My problem is that when I have selected multiple synth tracks, when I start to record on each individual track they all sound at the same time whenever I input notes through my keyboard. Like when I have a piano track and a strings track, when I want to record on the piano, every time I input notes, I play the strings at the same time.
+Angry Face The "Arm/Record" button (the square one with the circle in the center) must only be red for the track you want to record to. Any track which is red will be recorded to.
MU, got a problem! Problem loading drum sounds - when I try to drag and paste a drum sample from library to the pad on the session drummer mixer, I get a notice that says, "This file type is not supported". It seems only the 'one shots' are accepted by the mixer pad, but not the drum loops. How can I resolve this? Thanks in advance!
Hey Billly, It depends what type of loop it is.., I believe. Session Drummer will not play Rex or Acid loops, but it should play .wav loop. So, I would check to see what type of file it is.. You can check your loops and see if you have the .wav equivalent of your loop. Usually, loop packages come with 2-3 versions of the same loop so it can work in any daw. If it still doesn't work, just drag the loop directly on to a track and place wherever in the song you would like it to trigger. You can also trigger it from the piano roll view and place it wherever as well.. Hope this helps!
Karl Hans There really isn't that much difference. X3 does add Addictive Drums and a few full versions of VST's. If you already have X2, you're good. If you have neither, get the newest version.
I'm having a little problem i'm trying to re-sample sound into another Audio Track in sonar X2 but I can't I figure out how to do it to save my life can someone help?
Are you using a keyboard/synthesizer or a computer keyboard to play the Grand Piano? And where can I download sound effects/instruments addons, for free at least good ones that I have to buy?
Karl Hans This tutorial was all software based. All I used was a midi keyboard to play the virtual synthesizers (vst) within the software. You can can google just what you're asking for and there will be tons of places that come up for you find both free and pay for sounds and effects.
Before you make a stupid comment like that, you should do some research. I know this software like the back of my hand. I know it better than anyone you know, trust me. Any time you want to compare my work to yours just let me know.
this is what I like about cakewalk is software their design is so serious and professional looking great video man thanks

LOL Color scheme pop-up that computer not dedicated for music only, update you're screen drivers.
I know right. My bad.
Before you try to teach how to create a song on Cakewalk, which is a excellent piece of software you should learn how to use it yourself first!!!!

I wish it were more strait forward..."that's what I mean". I wish "you know what I'm talk'in about" it could be followed. Etc... "alright".
Your drum kick pattern is off. You should just make a regular or simple old school boom pap type beat to get the feel for it.
for next time maybe will be better show how the software works instead of attempting showing off your skills ;) #keepthechange
aaah what am I gonna do..hahaa..
