It's a good habit to always download apps from the Microsoft store, whenever available. The apps have all beenn vetted by Microsoft for security. great point.

This was really great as well. I do wish I had a Mac, but I think Its to hard to switch from a PC to a Mac. My nephew always telling me to get a Mac. Then Apple switched from CameraRoll to Icloud. Then I got a new PC with Windows 11, snd its slightly different too. So I have pictures in many Places on the PC, and duplicates etc!!! I need to understand how to fix the pictures, old icloud photos and new ones
Hi @Vadec! It for sure can be challenging moving from PC to Mac or vice versa. I can't really provide much input or recommendation when it comes to organizing photos on your PC. From my understanding it's all based on folder structure and organization. My biggest advice would be to start consolidating and then get a logical file structure by Date/Year and event of the photos and go from there. iCloud Photos will sync the photos to the cloud, but it most likely won't help with organizing them with all the other folders located on your PC. Maybe if someone else has suggestions they can help. Thank you for your continued support! What would happen if I created a folder in Files Explorer inside the photos folder on iCloud Photos? So iCloud Photos > Photos > +New Folder. How would this appear on my phone? I ask because I am migrating from OneDrive to iCloud, and have a bunch of Folders in my photos folder, and want to migrate those to iCloud in their folders, so like albums, but still have them collectively appear on my phone, online.
Hi @The_Apple_Sheep! Yes, you should be able to use iCloud Drive on your PC. That would allow you to sync a folder located on your PC to iCloud. Now it probably won't be a copy of the folder, it will be the actual folder that syncs. I've linked some Apple Support articles below that could be helpful: What can you do with iCloud on a Windows computer? support.apple.com/guide/icloud/use-icloud-on-your-windows-computer-mm6be2394337/icloud#:~:text=After%20you%20set%20up%20iCloud,information%20on%20your%20Windows%20PC. iCloud for Windows User Guide support.apple.com/guide/icloud-windows/welcome/icloud Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. its not often said that all programs from apple run tons of background services on windows. Its true with icloud control panel and also with itunes. So think twice if benefits are worth 15-20% degraded pc performance depending how fast pc you have. Uninstalling is also not so easy because after full uninstall there are several backgroud services still there. For that I would expect at least notes and reminders app from apple but no, so it's not worth it for me.
Hi @214ThirdCoast! If you're signed into iCloud software for windows and have the option checked to sync photos, it should download the full resolution. I am 100% convinced Microsoft does not want to allow me to use iCloud for windows on my desktop PC. Literally 24 hours after installing iCloud for windows and properly logging on Microsoft sent me a notification for an update. I went ahead and installed that update, my PC restarted and BAM! I no longer had access to my iCloud account. No matter what corrections I make to gain access I have no access to my iCloud. Even after uninstalling, changing my PC name, etc I can’t gain access. My Apple ID is correct and my Apple password is correct yet Microsoft is telling me to contact Apple and Apple is telling me it’s a Microsoft issue. I’m out of options.
Great video. Quick question, I'm working freelance and remotely, on a PC, for a company that use Mac. I need instant access to large files (one file might be 200gb). Normally they would post the media on a harddrive and I would download so I can work with the file locally. Question is can I use the method in your video to do this just using iCloud drive and ask client to send an invite link or do I need to download iCloud app? I need a workflow that allows me to instantly access a constantly updated drive, remotely. Thanks in advance to anybody that can help!
Some strange situation with iCloud. After installing on windows 10 and choosing the location of the iCloud folder on the D:\ drive, all the files just disappeared on that drive. very unpleasant experience of use
I really wish there would be a windows version for Contacts, Calendars and Mail. I used to love them when I was on a Mac. Now, having to resort to outlook just to have a unified access to my iCloud contacts, calendars and email is a big compromise for me. Outlook is embarrassing, clunky and plain unintuitive
@Joel Feld, Do U have video on importing photos/videos to iMac via USB from iPhone/iPad/iPod? My iOS devices have iCloud selected for Photos, not my iMac. On import did not get “delete photos after import” choice. Now stuck with all these on my iOS devices. How can I get rid of them? ThankU.
Hi @daygeckoarthawaii1360! If I'm not mistaken, on the windows it's what you put in the specific iCloud Drive folder that syncs. You would have to move the folder on your hard drive to that location. Is there any way to sync albums to the windows computer? Say if an album on the iPhone, whether icloud or local storage, is named dog then I'd like to sync that to a folder named dog on a Windows pc
What would be the proper settings so if i take a photo on an iPhone that it automatically uploads and downloads an original copy onto the MacBook. But that if I delete it from the phone at any time (to clear storage) that the original copy from the iMac wont be deleted? Or is that not possible at all?
Hi @Jeff Zest! This video isn't intended really to discuss that in depth. I use iCloud for windows on a windows machine but i also use windows 11 on M1 and cant get icloud to sync calendar and contacts.... i can provide details if u can help....thank u
Hi @Herrera Baseball Brothers! My first question would be where are you calendars stored? What type of email address do you have and use? iCloud? gmail? yahoo? etc? Many times users have multiple calendars associated with different email accounts and more times than not, syncing isn't happening because you use a calendar located on gmail instead of a calendar on iCloud. I hope that helps, and I'd be happy to help further! Thanks so much for watching! If this video was helpful and you learned something new, please SUBSCRIBE to my channel if you haven’t already! Thanks for replying…. I use iCloud to store my calendar and contacts so that I. An use then across all my devices. I guess this is a know issue from Apple but not sure. Maybe a new version of iCloud for windows arm is needed.
@@herrera769 I guess the next troubleshooting step would be to identify what device is not updating with the calendar. If you add a calendar event from iCloud.com, where does the event show up and more importantly where does it not show up. Did it ever work? Have you attempted to sign out of iCloud on the windows? Also what version of iCloud do you have installed on your PC?
Hello Joe. I am having issue opening icloud on my HP window 10 pc. I downloaded it from Microsoft Store and it was installed in my PC but sending error message and when I click on it from Start Menu, it wont open. please help me.

how do i get icloud drive to stick?? im on windows 10, and each time i select it and click apply the icloud drive unchecks itself after hitting apply. photos sticks, but drive doesnt!

Thank you for a great video. I'm wondering why my icloud and photos are not sync to my windows 11 after I followed all your instructions. I use it before until it stopped syncing, so I uninstall, download it again and still my files and photos are just not syncing to my pc. Can you please help or advise me what to do to get it to sync?
iCloud for Windows is a steaming pile of not nice smelling stuff. It works OK for a small number of files, but once you get into a few thousands of photos/videos (which we all do these days) it becomes a resource hog and will bring even the most modern of PCs to their collective knees. I spent weeks trying to back up my Photos library to my Windows 10 and then 11 PC and in both cases, both computers seized up. One lost my USB microphone the other one lost my entire D drive! In the end I ended up downloading my 2TB of photos/videos (80k files) via the iCloud website in batches of 1000 (max allowed) and even 500 once the files got huge (up to 65GB, thanks to 4k 60 videos). Yes it was very hands-on and it took me a week to complete, but at least it was predicable, repeatable, mostly reliable (I had a few download failures, but they worked after I restarted the browser/PC) and it did not crash my PC! In short, if you have a large library of photos/videos on your Apple phone/tablet, don't try to use iCloud to download them to your PC. It's really only meant to sync photos/videos back and forth and only download the ones you want to view as and when you want to view them. I have some more details in a video on my channel if anyone is interested, but in a nutshell this is it.
I just spent 3 hours on support call with senior techs at Apple for this. There is a problem with the way iCloud for Windows and its Shared Albums program are working (or not working) with Windows 11. Every time you shut down your machine, it will delete all shared folders and files in them from your local machine and attempt after awhile to redownload everything. Upon opening Shared Albums, it will say they are not enabled, give you a button to press that brings you to where you can enable them only to find that they ARE enabled. What? Close out of that, and the re-downloading begins. Its like GroundHog Day. I have 45 shared folders with over 50GB of data, and my computer will redownload all 50GB every day if I open the Shared Albums program on iCloud for Windows.
True, in theory you could do that @Mauricio Flores! They are all very very similar when you look the end result of all file systems. Thanks so much for watching! thanks for sharing! I don't know why, my shared albums disappeared after I restarted my PC. I set up different locations - external and internal drives - the result is always the same. after every reboot, it started to download all content again.. jeez, this is so annoying. I spend a week+ to find out what's wrong but I think the only wrong here is windows..
I wish I had a good answer for you @andreykochergin! That doesn't happen on any of my Apple devices. Maybe another Windows user will see this and have a solution. I don’t wanna use my computer local storage, just want to save in iCloud drive. But i want to access those data by computer and by other device. How can i do it?
Hi @biplabdebnath2189, It sounds like the best option is just to use the website iCloud.com for everything. There you can upload files into iCloud Drive, access photos and videos and any other Apple iCloud related information. Just keep in mind that depending on the files that you have in iCloud Drive, you may not be able to edit on the website. That's where it sometimes needs the file to be downloaded to a computer with the correct software. Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. It is greatly appreciated! Great question @MultiCurlyFry. As far as I know iCloud Photos doesn't really run on an Android as Android will often use Google Photos. I want to backup my new iPhone to windows 11. I refuse to add more iCloud storage, it should be free because when you buy a iPhone. Microsoft gives you a Tbit when you buy Office.
I hear ya @MrCoolBurn! The price for 1TB of storage for a single user on Microsoft is $70 per year, which compared to Apple is is actually more expensive. The difference is that Apple doesn't have a 1TB plan. They go from 50GB to 200GB and then to 2TB. The 2TB is $120 a year so by truly comparing to Microsoft, Apple's 1TB is only $60 per year compared to Microsoft's $70 per year. Either way, subscriptions for software and services are continuing to grow and becoming more and more expensive, which is completely frustrating! Use iCloud folder for that. You will find these files in the Files app on your iPhone/iPad although any pictures (photos or graphics) can be saved to the Photos app as long as they are in the correct format (i.e. JPG, PNG not PDF, DOC, etc.)
iCloud for windows is useless. It does not keep or show the same album folder structure i have in icloud. I have over 73.000 photos and all sorted into years and event albums on icloud, icloud for windows shows nothing, just everything dumped into the one icloud folder... no organization... useless

It's a good habit to always download apps from the Microsoft store, whenever available. The apps have all beenn vetted by Microsoft for security. great point.
I would agree @cstrikephd. Apps directly from Microsoft should be vetted already and "safer".

We ditched our computer and now have an iPad Pro. For average Joes it’s as good as a computer plus it’s same OS as my iPhone.
Is there a way to store a copy of a folder on your PC and then have it sync on iCloud as well?
Hi @The_Apple_Sheep!
Yes, you should be able to use iCloud Drive on your PC. That would allow you to sync a folder located on your PC to iCloud. Now it probably won't be a copy of the folder, it will be the actual folder that syncs.

its not often said that all programs from apple run tons of background services on windows.
Hi jeol. At 17:40, how do you download the full resolution pics/videos from iCloud photos to the PC?
Hi @214ThirdCoast!
If you're signed into iCloud software for windows and have the option checked to sync photos, it should download the full resolution. You can also visit iCloud.com and view photos from a web browser where there are download options for each photo to download the full resolution.

Very informative
Great video. Quick question, I'm working freelance and remotely, on a PC, for a company that use Mac. I need instant access to large files (one file might be 200gb). Normally they would post the media on a harddrive and I would download so I can work with the file locally. Question is can I use the method in your video to do this just using iCloud drive and ask client to send an invite link or do I need to download iCloud app? I need a workflow that allows me to instantly access a constantly updated drive, remotely. Thanks in advance to anybody that can help!
Thank you, very helpful
ThankU.
I set iCloud Drive to sync to a folder on my hard drive but nothing is happening. Does it take some time to even start downloading?
Hi @daygeckoarthawaii1360!
If I'm not mistaken, on the windows it's what you put in the specific iCloud Drive folder that syncs. You would have to move the folder on your hard drive to that location.

What would be the proper settings so if i take a photo on an iPhone that it automatically uploads and downloads an original copy onto the MacBook. But that if I delete it from the phone at any time (to clear storage) that the original copy from the iMac wont be deleted? Or is that not possible at all?

Hi @Herrera Baseball Brothers!
My first question would be where are you calendars stored? What type of email address do you have and use? iCloud? gmail? yahoo? etc?
Many times users have multiple calendars associated with different email accounts and more times than not, syncing isn't happening because you use a calendar located on gmail instead of a calendar on iCloud.
I hope that helps, and I'd be happy to help further!

How do I sync my documents (on my PC) with icloud?
Oh, so I can easily ditch Google Drive and use iCloud instead and acces all my files on a windows computer if I ditch my Mac. 🙌🏻
True, in theory you could do that @Mauricio Flores!
They are all very very similar when you look the end result of all file systems.

thanks for sharing!

Hi @biplabdebnath2189,
It sounds like the best option is just to use the website iCloud.com for everything.

Great question @MultiCurlyFry.
As far as I know iCloud Photos doesn't really run on an Android as Android will often use Google Photos.
If you primarily use an Android, I'd probably recommend to use Google Photos as it will intertwine better in that device.

you don't. or use onedrive for that.
