Controlled speedline / slideline | Arborist rigging systems

  • In this video we explain from start to finish how to put together and execute a well organized, controlled slide line setup. The slide line system doesn't come in to use that often but in the right situation it can save a lot of leg work and man power. The slide line system can also be adapted to create a horizontal slide line for specific situations, with the use of a few extra components.

    Honestly tree work is hard enough without all the critics. While there are many ways to skin a cat, and this tree could be done in many different ways, it's a good example of a technique that would get you out of a bind in a safe and economical way. Great video guys definitely a system to keep in mind on the next job i come across with a limited drop zone. keep it up

    I like your controlled speed line setup. Not needed most of the time but when needed it would be very valuable. The backline is a great safety. Very nicely thought out.

Těžké bukové dřevo náročná práce poškodilo by střechu. Video je dobrou ukázkou moderních postupů v praxi. Děkuji za poučení.

    Should've shown the top.
    Did you see the recent one Reg put out "tree work takes practice". Sick vid. He locked off the port from IN the tree. He showed himself testing his system at the beginning too. He is so mellow but I know he was so proud of getting that on camera.
    The system you show here is surprisingly easy to set up. Love the prusik at the bottom to hold the tension. Probably most ergonomic and failsafe choice.
    You guys should invest in the mb speed line kit. And you could fill the wheel up to capacity of the pulleys/rollers.
    Btw, couldn't you just put the rigging line on the first of the branches in a bundle and send as much as your tensioning system would lift and let the first branch hold up the group? (No pulleys, no wheel)

    I have a question tree folks. Could you place a pulley say 10-30 feet in a tree across the house and run the speenline to a portawrap at the base of said tree, tension it up and then give slack as it come toward you ?
    Also could one achieve the same functionality of the setup with much less expensive gear such as instead of a rigging block just using a good carbiner and run the rope over to the other tree and tension it up on a portawrap?

    • @brianthiebault4688
      @brianthiebault4688 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not quite. It would Lower back towards the initial anchor side (ie direction of the house).
      Slacking the system would be suitable in a situation where a control line is not used. That would be a true speed-line set-up. However, it the case of this video, they were demonstrating a control line and post-tension as a way to make a long run without the pieces loading and stretching the line over the structure. This is 100% the safest way to operate this system in this scenario. And it is only a demo. There are many ways this tree could have been removed.
      Asking "what if's" on-line, over the phone, etc is a terrible approach btw without being present at a site.

    • @kivaswander5537
      @kivaswander5537 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    @thejackel1844 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Having a "fixed" skyline (stationary) would reducing or otherwise eliminate the need to pull limbs up and through the trees crown... Let the drop line do the work of raising and lowering when needed...

    • @RAILKING25
      @RAILKING25 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Except that you’d only be able to do the limbs closest to the stationary line.. the others would require a longer tether which would cause them to hit the house, no? Pulling them up was the best way to do approach the scenario that I could see

    • @spelunkerd
      @spelunkerd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RAILKING25 I suppose one could add a lift line, from from ground to block in tree to block in pulley, then down to branch to lift the branch up to the fixed line. One extra line, one extra person, more work.

    • @ClimbingArborist
      @ClimbingArborist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brad, It is my opinion from working with many many different arborists, if they know the job is a removal then they reach for the spurs before even seeing the tree. If the tree has a structure that allows you to climb around with ease, just like if it was not a removal, then I always opt to climb without spurs and use my climbing ability and not have big, awkward metal spurs strapped to my feet that are only needed for bringing down the final stem. But this is only my personal preference, every climber has their own way of approaching jobs.
