    I bought one of these bags about 2 years ago on a whim. These are awesome! Living in AZ and hiking in the desert, I didn’t think it would hold up for very long, but no holes as of yet. The fact that it folds up and doesn’t take up a lot of room when it’s empty, is an extra bonus. Now I’m going to get the shower kit that I just found out about. 😉

    Like the versatility of the Hydrapak water system. Purchased a couple of MSR Dromedary 4L water packs for a back country trip in the Guadalupe Mountains a couple of years ago. The MSR water packs definitely did not have the versatility of this water system.
    Platypus had a similar issue with leakage on their Hydration Systems several years back. They tweaked their design and moved the outlet connection from the bottom of the water bladder to higher up so there was not as much pressure on the outlet connection.

    I bought the Seeker 3L and the Insulated Hydrasleeve for as what I see as the greatest feature of the Seeker system, as a companion to the Katadyn BeFree water filter. Hydrapack makes the bag for the BeFree water filter, so it has a common thread size. So now I can use my BeFree on trail, but when I'm getting close to camp I can fill the Seeker up and use it as a gravity filter for around camp. Game Changer! Also with the Hydrasleeve to insulate the Seeker, I can let that hang on a tree, and not worry as much about it freezing overnight. Plus the Hydrasleeve will keep your water cold for much longer when the temps are warmer.

  • @itywhat6499
    @itywhat6499 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As for the hose...I think if they could somehow fix a flex straw that goes from the cap to the bottom inside of the bladder you would be able to carry it upright and still get water to drink. I do like the system but would probably not use the hose. The shower sounds good after a hot summer hike. Carry it on the outside of your pack so the sun heats the water up. Also, I have Vanquest packs. They have those loops at the bottom of the pack. I could carry the water using the two side lashing points along the side. I will probably get one with the kit. Thanks for the vid.

    Looking at it looks like the camelbak quick link system is compatible with it, might be worth looking at, much better quality hose and connector, the other thing is you really don't need a hose cover even in winter just blow the water back into the bottle and that clears the hose and at the same time it stops the water from sloshing around and making noise when its half empty.

    you could jubilee clip that insulated hose onto the nozzle, or glue it, or use a couple of cable ties to help clamp it onto its nozzle to reduce the chance of it popping off. Personally, i'd use the cable ties I think, as they are plastic, very light weight can be trimmed so there are no sharp points that could dig in & puncture the bag when rolled up. Jubilee clips tend to be metal & have sharp parts on them. I'm pretty sure the issue could be quickly & easily addressed, I don't think it would prevent me from getting/using that accessory if I wanted it.
    Very useful review, thank you.

      @fjsiv2284 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gideonstactical WRONG!!! So wrong. It was such a great video until you tried to (incorrectly) use it upside down. Gravity isn't needed to use a straw. As you drink through the tube, you draw water out of the soft bag and it gets smaller. Please try to drink with it upright. Then post an update to your video showing people that these can be used upright. It's so frustrating when a reviewer doesn't understand how a product works and then spreads misinformation. Physics still works with a soft bag... It's no different than drinking out of a glass with a straw...you don't need the glass upside down either. In all my miles on the PCT, I never used my soft bags upside down.

  • @carolinojed
    @carolinojed 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You dont need to place it upside down

    3 years on, how is it holding up? Still reliable?
    Importantly, how does the water taste? Does it taste "plasticky"?
    2.6oz=74g and it folds pretty compact. I'm thinking combined with a Sawyer-mini, a condom and a small pack of purification tablets, I could have this HydraPak permanently in my sheen pocket as Layer-1 (clothing pocket contents) Container (for emergency situations if I don't have a metal cup or steel canteen on my person).

    • @noeltownshend4007
      @noeltownshend4007 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      gideonstactical I was thinking ... the Nalgene bottle has a wider mouth or opening so it will allow more air in the bottle to air dry. The hydra pak’s opening / mouth is a bit smaller, it won’t allow that much air inside to air dry over time. Too, the hydrapak has a bit more nooks & crannies (not a straight walled container like the Nalgene bottle), so a little water could remain in hydrapak and get moldy? Just trying to think of everything before I buy .. 😊

      I have the 3L of this to go with my BeFree water filter. It's not gonna mold while you are out using it. I just rinse mine out once home, and hang it to dry. Dries in like an hour, and I store it hanging with the lid off. No nooks and crannies to get stuck in, completely dry. Works great and since Hydrapack makes the bottle for the BeFree, the Filter can be used on either bottle flawlessly.

    • @ericsidolmind
      @ericsidolmind 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use it for water storage and as a gravity filter, as the BeFree water filter from Katadyn screws right on perfectly. Much faster flow rate than any other filter on the market. The CNOC Vecto works with Sawyer water filters, but they're much slower than the BeFree filter. I don't use it as a bladder on trail. I use my 1L BeFree, and fill up the Seeker at my last water source before camp.

    I would prefer the self reliance steel bottle and large cup the bottle fits in the cup along with a Titanium bowl titanium spork. For steel it’s actually fairly light and just doesn’t hold water u can also put it over. The fire for cooking or purifying water through boiling same with the cup and a titanium bowl to eat along with titanium utensils and doesn’t way much more at probably 3 times the weight but your water pouch must be very light so 3 times that weight isn’t a big deal and u get much more utility. I have a few titanium plates but they don’t fit in the cup like the bowl spork and fish mouth opener that works great for hooking to your cup or bottle for hanging them over a fire and a second titanium cup that also fits inside the cookset quessing it weighs a hair over 1 pound for a great kit. It will cost u around $50 but that’s only $30 more for a better kit check out self reliance they make everything for old school and new school camping bags knives bottles tools tents etc everything a guy in the woods would need.

    GT - Love your knife and gear reviews, but this is a "NEW AGE" and MADE IN CHINA ===> OUT ! I know, COST right? Hey we gotta find competitive options that are not MADE IN CHINA, plain and simple, we have to try and adjust our mindset. Not against the people of China, but firmly against CCP who profits from every purchase we make of things made there. You're a great reviewer, and I can tell a great person, this is not a troll, just comments to humbly suggest the NEW AGE :-) Cheers and God Bless.

    Many people seem to complain about terrible taste and smell it gives to water no matter what they do and how long they use it. What can you say about it from your experience?
    Hose design is absolutely terrible btw. I can't believe they thought it's acceptable to sell something like this.
