I picked up the led one about a week ago. It’s my first g shock, and I really like it, the strap feels really nice. Glad to know about the colors, and I think the led fits the watch much better
This watch is one of the best. It's a classic that will always be my go to when I can't figure out what watch to wear in the morning. Thanks for watching.
Lucky! Nice pickup. I too like the change from EL to LED as it makes possible a longer battery life. As Casio is always coservative with battery life estimates, provided you don't go too crazy with the alarm and light functions, you could get close to 10 years. And, FWIW, I recently got a DW-5750 and it also has some sort of batch/production or time code or serial number on the backplate.
I picked up one of these from Japan, a week or so after its release, back in March. I also believe the band and bezel are made from a different material, as are many new models.
The original DW-5600 C model, was still made in japan. The early E model, was, made in Korea, and still is made in China and Thailand. Not sure it it's made in any other places.
The original was made in Japan like @valengreymoon5623 said. I wish they would stop making the watches in china, 3 Casio watches from china has failed me now. I won't buy china g-shocks anymore, absolutely refuse, they just don't last.
@chosearmandoarmando3864 the original 5600e was made in Malaysia, then, China. They switched to Thailand with the very last 1545 modules before being made in China again when the 3229 module came out. They're currently being made in Thailand again with the most recent 3229 modules and current 3525 module. The most recent Thailand HD models with EL seem to have the clearest displays compared to the older EL versions.
Depends on the version you have with the EL backlight. The older versions had grainy displays. The very last Thailand HD model was actually not bad. But yeah generally the new LED backlight models seem to be clearer and have a wider viewing angle.
@@RobertNES816 I'm working on a video comparing the the 1987 5600c, 1545, 3229 and the most recent. I even through in a G-5600 for good measure, very interesting comparison. Thanks for watching.
@collectingwatches you should know that even the original 5600c has differences in the modules throughout the years. Some have very clear displays and some have a grainy background. Newer 901 modules have a green backlight while most have the regular incandescent bulb. I've have a bunch of 5600c watches throughout the years since I was buying a flipping them for a short while.
I say for me it's a toss up. Stick around, I'm working on video starting with the 5600c (691 module) to a 1545, 3229 module and I even through in a 5000 for good measures. Thanks for watching.
The EL backlight is king. I wore my DW-5600E throughout my time in the military and police primary working nights. The greenish blue light is much better in total darkness, when I got a GW-9400 with the LED I hated it because it blasted out my eyes at night. Its sad the EL is basically discontinued....
Hey I just picked up one of those JFs a few days ago! In my country there were only 3 pcs of dw5600ue-1jf being sold if I'm not mistaken. Maybe there will be more available here, don't know.
@@collectingwatches Lovin it! This is in fact my very first G Shock after my 5-year career of collecting Seikos and (affordable?) Casios. Didn't dare to pull the trigger on one because my wrists aren't that big.
I just don't like the buttons on the original, especially the adjust button that's about impossible to operate with the watch on my left wrist. I like G-Shocks. I have 9, including 2 other squares. The DW5600E is the exception.
@@collectingwatches The adjust button on the DW5600E is about unusable. The same button on newer squares like the GWM5610U is not nearly as bad, but I agree there is still plenty of room for improvement. A watch like the SGW-100 is far easier to operate, and still pretty robust.
I don't like the bezel on the new version. Its more shiny, and don't match with the color of the strap. This is a huge step back for me! I don't like it, that's disappointing.
Definitely like the old light better. It’s easier on the eyes in the middle of the night. Either one is nice tho 👍
Ok thanks!

Nice clip. The bezel on that older E looks really grayish. Thanks much 🖐🏻
Thanks for watching!
The EL light is so much nicer and more even
I would like to test the G-Shock with EL and the new UE model with night vision goggles to see which one is worse. Thanks for watching.

Yeah the module was re-worked to enable the additional power save benefits. The 6900 is sweet, next purchase 😉
Just bought the DW6900UB-9JF replacement for the Fox Fire model, I like the LED backlight better than the weak green EL.
I just checked this out and I need one! Thanks for the info.

Yes, its different colors of black, perhaps some grey mixed in. Thanks for watching
Wasnt the Original DW-5600 made in China? The new one is made in thailand.

The new LCD is much clearer, brighter and less grainy. You didn't mention these points.
Didn't really notice that, thanks for the heads up. Thanks for watching.
@@collectingwatches It's most noticeable under fading or dim room light. Regards 👍

I ordered a DW5600EV1 on Amazon Prime Day last week, but received the UE. I like the brightness of the LED.
I like the white LED also. Did you get a good deal on Prime Day?
@@collectingwatches Yup! Forty bucks and change!
sweet! good price. I'm working on a video of a DW-5600c from 1987 and comparing it to the current DW-5600. Thanks for watching.

Do you have the link?

LED is easier to read and less battery drain. The LED performed better with the flashing g display alarm as well.
Any differences with the dimensions? From the video it kinda looked like their proportions were different
Same watch size. Different modules and watch glass.

One question, when you put the diagnostic mode on the DW5600UE, does module 3229 appear or does it appear 3525?
3229
It's strange, it seems that they used the module, they just changed the lighting and the internal protections.
They missed an opportunity with these updates. I prefer the green glow of the EL. The standard LED is just meh.
