I actually giggled at the "unexpected item in the bagging area." If that had happened to me in real life, i would have howled with laughter even though i would have been on the receiving end.
Yeah it was. I bet the audience laughed but the BGT producers probably thought it would be a good idea to silence them so it looks like no one laughed and it gets you thinking "oh no this guy is rubbish". Only for him to be brilliant and give him a redemption ark. Typical BGT tactics
Not the right time and mood for it. It’s something that you’d lead into when you’re already on that topic as a little throwaway when you already have the audience behind you. People expect shock/surprise/impact/crazy openings
Manufactured TV in a nutshell. They may well have cut out any laughter there was for that joke for all we know, simply because the judges didn't like it, just to make it fit the narrative. If you listen closely you can actually hear some people laughing, so I very much suspect that's what they did. also, as a hint, when you see these "awkward" breaks between sentences in reality TV (and here), with often a close up of some other person (in this case Simon and a woman in the audience) giving you the impression that whoever was centre stage has just said or done something really awkward, it's almost always an indication that the scene has been edited. So, I don't think his first joke was as badly received as the final edit makes it out to be, but the judges really didn't like it and in the end, that's what counts for auditions. But yeah I mean being a stand up comedian is also just really hard because rule #1 is every audience is different and thus will react differently to your jokes and rule #2 the greatest laughs will likely happen when you least expect it. For this reason, I've heard big name stand up comedians say that they sometimes go on a mini pub circuit before their tour to test out the jokes. Then, only the ones that get the most laughs make the cut for the big stage. Not sure if everyone does it that way, but it does make a lot of sense to me. Even so, if you watch their shows closely, you can tell that there's always a bunch of jokes that only get few or don't get any laughs at all. But if you're a pro, you don't let yourself be deterred by that and just carry on, as indeed Stefano did really well here.
As an American unfamiliar with many of the British Regional accents I couldn't appreciate this as much as the judges or audience members. But I take their word for it that was pretty funny. it sounded like it
Let me explain the point: We've got no talent, that's why. You know the joke: Paradise is England providing the entertainment, Italy for the catering and Germany for the logistics? Hell is: England provides the food, Germany the entertainment and Italy the logistics. That’s what I mean. Excuse me, we Gernans are even bad in jokes ... (Another joke: What does the blue colour in the German flag stand for? Answer for humour!) 🤣
I've never seen a full blooded Southern Italian man with British accent lol (I met Northern Italian guy with British accent, he looks 100 percents Englishman so he doesn't count lol)
Must be the most nervous feeling when you open with a couple of jokes and the room is silent... All comedians will of had that, deliver the right material and the mob goes wild, well done 👏
He's nice and all, but Italian dubbing is nothing like he portrayed it; in fact it's so good it was an extra opportunity for Italians to not get into learning English. Homer Simpson has the same voice actor of Eddy Murphy, oddly enough, and it works better than the original. The most dramatic contrast is in Full Metal Jacket: once you get used to the Italian version of the drill sergeant, the original sounds bland and uninteresting by comparison...
Not quite sure about this. The different voices has been done before..the young guy who did Disney characters. I'm not quite sure if it will get passed the next round. It wasn't unique enough.
he needs jokes to go with his accent imitation. at moment it's only impersonation, without the funny joke set up. for example if he had done the tesco unexpected item in bagging area with an accent and story, like a Chinese or Spanish goerdi person in tesco made it as he walked past with bag on his head etc. a double whammy of jokes.
If the judges and audience found it funny, then I guess I’ll have to take their word for it. As a non-British person though, it was not…I guess it’s one of those jokes that you just have to be British to understand. Probably the same that some of Trevor Noah’s jokes are just meant for a South African audience.
The best part is how when the first joke crashed...he just changed direction and kept on going. Way to read the room and soldier on. 😎👍
Nah!, the crash was part of the act so bravo to him :)
Takes a good ear and understanding of languages to do this. AND to understand it...
I actually giggled at the "unexpected item in the bagging area." If that had happened to me in real life, i would have howled with laughter even though i would have been on the receiving end.
Glad he did more jokes after that first gag, every little helps
Underrated comment!
Clean
His Tesco joke was funny
About as funny as putting yer nuts in a vice
they didnt get it....
The audience most likely did laugh but they edited it out

He’s just making an impression of every British tourist attempting to order in the local language when on vacation.
First joke was actually a banger on the punchline, there was just too much buildup for the payoff to land well.
I love it! No sob story, just a straightforward introduction and on to the performance.
Almost got buzzed off XXXX when he hit that "dead space" 💀 at the beginning, but nice recovery 😂
Love it. He is hilarious.
Well I have never heard a Chinese British accent until today xD
You need to move up north
there aren't chinese there?
He didn't start off badly, they didn't get the jokes because they're...
Cnuts?

And I can compare cause I am not German or British, 😅😇
hey, no one's perfect
I believe that you have no idea what you're talking about
He's really on to something, British accents/ foreign languages.
This would probably be more impressive if i was British but i can still appreciate the skill required
They didn't get the first joke because all of them are too rich to use self-service…
BGT allows comments. BIG UP SW LDN.

Dude was very funny 🤣
The recovery is priceless my mate
Love all the judges.
His skill it's the important....!!

That first joke dropped hard😐
I saw him years ago up the creek and on tv
There’s a big Hong Kong presence in Newcastle, so there may be some truth there.

I love Alesha she's so beautiful.
Very British specific humour.
That was pretty good. A few of the guys in the crowd didnt even crqck a smile though
Spot on mixed accents.
Thank you very much video
I look at the judges, and the work they have done to themselves, then switch off. I don't even get to the contestants.
Saw the thumbnail and thought for a second Pep Guardiola got tired of football coaching and started stand ups as a new career
Amandas forced laugh AAAaaargh.
She loves herself
dunno how the hell I MISSED THIS... I watch all AGT..... MMMMMMMMM
Well, this is BGT.
It would've been funny if they all said, "Si" in their regional accents😂
He just being himself, not even performing..and all judges standing up
Molto divertente bravissimo.Very funny well done.
(In a western country accent) Bona sorte amico Paolini!
Amaziiiiiiiing!
Good to see david williams back in BGT
This is an old clip, he’s not coming back
You are great
Great job chap 😅
Oh... the irony of Amanda Holden as a judge on a talent show.....
Y por tan poca cosa, obtiene aplausos de pie.
Pure class 👏
Nice job! I wonder where he goes from here.
He went to the semi finals and got buzzed by Amanda & Simon ❌❌
He looked nervous at the beginning when there were no laugh after his 1st punchline.

I think I've lost my sense of humour.
I agree... If this is humour then am dead too
And me 👍

Could he do a north Walian accent?
He was funny
I still don't understand why Alesha Dixon is a judge.
That's why you are not a judge...
He nicked that foreign/UK accent bit from Paul Whitehouse
That's was good 😂
Amazing😎
I Havnt watched this show in years. It's sad to see the standards have dropped this low that this is considered a great audition.
The first part didn't go well, tbh.... But I'm glad that he was able to catch up in the last few parts.
The guys face at 2:24 lol
Jaysus Christ Simon Cowell is looking rough!?!
Made in South West London🤣🤣

Minus 20 on IQ per minute of this show

I think the first joke was funny people totally miss it.
oh my gosh, I can't stand the faces of the jury members... Of any of them.

I feel if this man wasnot British he would have been axed after the 1st joke
Nice
You should do malaysian
With a little more work, even Americans might get it
Oh dear
Stick with the accents
He was OK, luckily he didn't get 3 X
I couldn't even giggle. I just don't get the jokes. I thought Simon's comment was more funny.
I'm an American...so I didn't get it....
The first joke went down like an horseshit sandwich but well recovered that man!
Was waiting for Russian in scouse accent😢
