Oh my goodness my husband definitely pops things off like “this will be the best way to do it” with perfect confidence and immediately I’m like.... “okay, but why do you say that? Sources? MLA works cited please” 😂

I learned a shocking lesson when we moved to the country when my son was 2 yo. They are raised completely different out here and to my horror, we went back to the city as he turned 3 for a wedding. It was held at a HUGE church where people wore church clothes, real shoes (not boots) and dress jackets not button down cowboy shirts. After the service, we were all standing outside talking to old friends and as I looked at my son, we had his back to me while standing in front of a tree. Of course, he had to do this in front of the whole congregation. Country boys are so natural! But my 3 yo daughter had him beat. We went in town to a nice big box hardware where they sold flower boxes and fancy sinks instead of fence posts and cattle tanks. I was checking out and turned to see her sitting on the floor model toilet, pants down. I wasn't fast enough and will forever be mortified at what I saw in the bowl when I grabbed her. We sure were country come to town back then as I kept being reminded of all the things I wasn't teaching them. 50 years later it makes a great story but --.

We were at the back of the property working and we finally convinced my niece that a cider block was just an outdoor potty. She used that thing all day. There is 10 years between her and her sister. We were outside working and her sister needed to go potty and she took her over to a cinder block and was trying to convince her to go potty instead of going in the house. Apparently she felt if it was good enough for her as a kid it was good enough for her sister. She got over ruled since we were close to the house. She took her inside and we busted up laughing. Who knew cinder blocks made such great little kid port-a-potties.

1000 times yes on your points on companion planting! It makes gardening too complicated and there is so much conflicting information out there, very little based on actual science. Just watch spacing, and light, nutrient and water requirements of different plants, that is all.

I have trouble sowing seed because we have an abundance of birds which like to snack on my seed. I swear the crows sit and watch me plant. Then come the next morning for breakfast. The last time I tried to direct sow I sat on my porch with a 22 rifle. Out of 5 rows 40 ft rows of corn. 2 rows of peas 2rows of Bush beans . I got maybe a dozen or so plants. So I just start everything in my greenhouse. But on a more positive note we don't get very many tomatoe or cabbage worms. Because the birds like to eat them also.💕💖❤💕💖❤

I bought borage seeds for the first time this year I'm really excited to start growing it. I read a lot about it. I like the fact that it sucks up a lot of nutrients. Apparently it grows a deep taproot. You can put it in your compost pile eventually. I also read that you can make a liquid fertilizer out of it. So it has many uses.

Everything is relevant to what you're used to. Living in zone 10 I'm in snow pants and a parka when it gets below 60 (not even joking). Glad you're enjoying the day despite the cold. Be well :o)

My blue borage sometimes puts off a purple/pink bloom but the white and variegated varieties sound great!

Omg, my pet peeve too, but in general. People love to speak in black and white, when most things are several shades of gray. I think gray areas take more effort to be comfortable with, and some people don't appreciate that. I appreciate your presentation of facts and thoughts.

I dehydrate the borage greens and add them to teas and soups. flowers as teas as well.

This video was so helpful. Companion planting stresses me out. I had someone tell me one year when I was battling the first hornworms that I had ever seen in my 12 years of gardening, to plant marigolds. So I did my little bit of research and set out to seed the most gorgeous marigolds. I had them as a border in the garden and down a few rows. I'll never be convinced that the they didn't BRING pests to my garden lmao I have never dealt with squash bugs, cucumber beetles and whatever else was out there.....until those darned marigolds. Never again lol

You are such an incredible mother, so loving and tender and I’m only a minute or two into the vlog and I am so happy to be here. I’m a Christian too and it’s such a breath of fresh air experiencing life with you through these videos. Your heart is needed in this world. I am planting my first garden this year. Last year it didn’t turn out so well. I moved from the north to the south and the climates are polar opposite. I’m gaining experience along the way and I found your channel last year but I’ve been lead back to your channel again. I gave up and felt pretty discouraged but I’m so thankful to listen to you and your vlogs. You give me hope and inspire me to try my very best and not to be so easily discouraged. I’m learning daily. I’m always learning but your channel gives me a new perspective and a clean state of mind. Thank you for being you and for allowing God to use you. You are having an eternal impact.... way more than you know. God bless you, sister in Christ.

We have two sons who have been raised in the country too and my husband taught them how to “water the flowers “ well. Our daughter well she can’t go outside to save her life even though her entire life has been living in the country. On another note I have direct sown in my garden already (we live in the Sonoran Desert) and I have one variety of lettuce up already (I planted four varieties) and a couple stalks of asparagus up too. I am using your cattle panel idea as an arch over a portion of my asparagus bed to create shade for my lettuce and help keep it from bolting as soon hopefully. I planted gourds to trellis on the panel. Btw I discovered two panels in the back corner of our property and was excited because I didn’t have to spend any money on them.

Thank you for getting this info out about companion planting! There is one Pinterest chart out there that say don't plant x next to y. Then, down at line y, it says to plant with x. 😂

Here in Sc I planted parsley and dill around my tomatoes and usually horn worms are everyone but I only found two because they preferred the dill over the tomatoes. Idk if it’s a perfect plant but it’s worked well for me.
