  • Well, it's been a long (8 months to be exact) journey, but here we are at the end, with a finished embroidery piece and sore fingers. Thanks to everyone who watched Part 1, who followed along on IG, and who gave me encouragement along the way... when it's hard to keep stitching on a giant piece like this, those things really help motivate me!

glad im not the only person that can't sit correctly while doing art

If legs didn't just randomly fall asleep, we wouldn't have to keep adjusting them all the time XD

Try using a layer or two of tulle as interfacing, each rotated slightly from the last -- it's ridiculously resistant to stretch at exact right angles, very light, and feels like stitching through plain cloth. If you don't like the scratchy feeling of tulle against your fingers on the back of the piece, you can always put another layer of cotton to protect the back. Good stuff!

Maybe use an arrow instead of a straight line for direction in the 1 colour to distinguish it from 1 to make it less confusing

That piece is phenomenally gorgeous! I’m working on my own epic beast of a project. It’s a cross approximately 36” x 24” on 28 ct evenweave. I’m just doing 1/2 the cross with 1 strand because it’s so small. It’s a pattern from Heaven & Earth designs called Ye Olde Craft Room and I chose the supersized max color version because I wanted lots of detail. Of course this translates into lots of confetti. There are 237 colors listed (although for any color that has less than 100 stitches in the whole project amidst a sea of confetti, I use the next closest). The pattern has 700,000 stitches. I’m 13% through and I estimate that if I work steadily on it (avg a couple of hours a day), it will take about 10 YEARS. Of course it will actually be longer, because sometimes I just want to do some black work instead (one color, repeating patterns, what a relief). And darn it if I don’t have to add satin stitch embroidery to the growing list of crafts on my someday list now!

I have automotive finishing tape all round the edges of my fabric where I hold it with my hands. it keeps the fabric clean, and the tape only has slightly more tack than painter's tape. It holds down well, but peels up without leaving residue.

I really hope you see this comment since it's an old video. I am currently working on a small, but similar project and a question arose. What went into your decision of the stitch direction of each piece? Just random directions? Anything that feels good? Or different colors, same direction for something and why? I would love to learn/hear from you what your thought process is there.

That is a masterpiece. My mom did embroidery. I did not. I did teach myself to candlewick to put in a vintage quilt i did my hand and mach8ne. Yours is stunning

It’s really lovely. If you are going to frame it you could always get a mount cut for it which would cover the corners.
Another possibility is to use a little bit of washing soda, which is awesome for removing grease from garments (& off kitchen cabinets too, LOL. It’s what ‘sugar soap’ is for degreasing prior to painting).
Oxy powder, like Vanish might do it, too.

That is STUNNING! And after eight months of work, you should sell it to some really rich person for $50,000 (ok, not really). What's sad, though, is that like the work of any great artist, it appreciates more hundred of years after the artist has lived. But it is stunning! ❣
