Strip graze it, far more efficient, we were doing that in NZ, back in the 1970s,
10 metre strips maximum, with a fence behind them, to keep them off the previously grazed strip, chew it to the ground, shift every day if necessary

Don't apologize for talking to us. Always love it when someone is enthusiastic about an idea.
Not only will the paddock system save/help with grass, I think it will save you lots of time. No more having to load and transport sheep. I know that some of your fields can be walked between, but not all, I think. This way you just drop a section of electric fencing, have Josie push them onto the next section, and raise the fencing again. Great idea.

That's what we did with the goats on auntie's farm. When the children were young we used to call it "time to move the goats" when we shifted them from room to room throughout the day so we could clean up behind them also.

Hi from New Zealand Will! Yes we have used this method of grazing for many years. It works a treat👌🙂

You will benefit from separating your fields by letting your sheep will eat it down and fertilize then letting it rest helps the grass growth.

Having fresh grass in front of them can only lead to weight growth / less land used should be a winner hopefully

You will never look back but you need 7/8 paddocks - 3 days grazing 21 days growing 15 days is too short

I think Tom Pemberton uses this type of farming method for his cows😁

Will, this looks quite promising. A few questions:
    1. Is the quality of the grass such that you’ll need only minimal nutritional supplementation?
    2. Is this paddock area subject to flooding?
    3. Will the paddock grazing system influence the worm load of the sheep in a good way?
    4. Will this require extra fertilizer from time to time, more than in the past? Does the regular application of paddock sheep manure reduce that possibility?
    5. Will the paddock system help the maximize farm’s haylage business?
    6. The paddock grazing system looks to minimize the stress of movement, except when needed. Do you anticipate any change in lamb growth rates?
    Thank you!

Kiwi cost of production, with uk lamb prices 🤑🤑 on the right track. Hope you’re brainstorming how to triple/quadruple your sheep numbers on that block! 👏👏

Do you top each paddock as soon as the lambs come out after 3 days or just let it be?

So I’m going to follow them with a group of ewes to begin with as I’ve started off with too much grass. But once it’s down it should be okay

For this time of year 30kg/DM a day seems veery low. If it is right then your 15 day rest will only leave you 450kg/ha to graze when you re-enter it. The principle is 100% but i would check your numbers

@@CowleyHillFarm Does that mean they only eat grass or do you add some other food?

Is it a male thing that you have to test the fence with a blade of grass? You do realize their are devices for checking the fence. lol
