    All three albums by The Records are worth having but the debut album that this song is from is just pure power pop perfection. 🎸🎵

    I had no idea that The Records were on TMS. I didn't think anyone in the US had even heard of them.
    Also good songs from their first album: Starry Eyes, Girls That Don't Exist, and Affection Rejected.
    (:

      @@timhoovermusicman you had to be at the forefront of new wave in the late 70s to know who they were. They played twice at the Bottom Line in New York City. The 1st time in 1978 on the B Stiff tour they were the backing band for Rachel Sweet and played their own songs too. In 1979 they came back and headlined the Bottom Line on their own. Wish I had been there in person, but I did listen to both shows live on WNEW-FM NY.

    They had a song called "Starry Eyes" that got played on the radio a bit back around this time. Good song. Wonder if they played it on this episode.

    That's from the Cars 1979 episode. If I had seen this during the watch party, I would have issued an obscure alert on it. There was more than one obscure band in that episode.

    I remember this band only because I had a cousin who was into them and thought they were going to be huge. The song Affection Rejected is the one song that sticks in my head from them.

      I saw them twice in late '78 supporting Rockpile and on the Stiff tour and that was the song that stuck in my head. I was greatly looking forward forward to hearing it again when the album came out the following spring, but Mutt Lange's production murdered it. The CD "paying for the summer of love" has an earlier, more workmanlike recording and it's every bit as fabulous as those early live renditions. A CD well worth seeking out.

    The only thing better than Bananarama: Teenarama. (It’s funny. Whenever a stupid song comes on the radio I ask my wife, “Is this Bananarama?” And she generally says, “No!” Occasionally a stupid song comes on and I get it right though. Even a vision-impaired rodent finds a legume now and then.)

    I guess the name of the band is “The Records”? Ironic a bit since I think they only released two. I think they should’ve changed their name to, “The Record.” ‘Cause the second one didn’t sell very well before they broke up in 1982 I believe.

    • @Maltloaflegrande
      @Maltloaflegrande 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They made three, but the third one bombed even more spectacularly than the second and was a bit crap because they were persuaded to recruit a frontman who wasn't as well suited to the songs as Wicks and the other players who occasionally took lead vocals. The second LP is worth hunting for just for "Girl in Golden Disc" although there are several other great songs on there.
