Great to see a road trip video coming out of WA mate. I'm a sandgroper living in North QLD and the fast charging net here is definitely a lot better than pro old WA. With all that mining money hopefully things will change over there sooner than later.
Nice video, I love WA having lived in Tom Price for 7 years. It's a shame not having fast chargers in the bush. I just drove my new Model 3 from Melbourne to Brisbane and back, and most places it took longer to grab a pie and a pee than it did to charge enough to move on to the next stop. The long range makes a bit of a difference, we had more stops just to stretch our legs than we did to charge.
It’s getting better. Still need more as we are the world most remote city, Charing infrastructure still shows it. Looking forward to what it will be like in another year, I’m hoping for ability to fast charge on DC all the way around Australia.
@@mickhudsononutube if the federal government sticks to the plan for the national network outlined, an east ring around trip be possible come Xmas 2024
Hey Mike, just discovered your channel, great video mate. Oh, totally agree, we need more, better charging infrastructure, totally agree and none of this taxes / km fees that the state government wants to introduce, not this early in the transition to EVs anyway. Cheers
Absolutely. Needs to be incentivised not punished. Glad you enjoyed, I just filmed a new video on using the RAC electric highway charger in Perth and highlighting the differences. Should have editing completed by next weekend.
plugshare sounds like a good idea. If the checkout would happen automatically, once you left the site, you would not forget to checkout. I havent tried the app yet, but i am sure that you have to do a manual checkout.
That was like stepping back in time for me. Yes, you can use destination chargers, but fast chargers are a must! Trust the estimator. Always leave yourself a 10% buffer. Remember your ABC when chargers are thin on the ground like in WA. Always Be Charging. 😀 Things will become so much better for you once the electric highway goes through. Keep pushing for it!
Well done mate. We have a Hyundai Ioniq Electric 38.3kwh and its a slower charge on DC fast charger than your Y but better on AC at home we get 15km per hour or 5%. On DC we get 35Kw up to 80% then it drags. We're retired and time is not usually a problem. Put nearly 13000Km on it since December last year love it. EV is the way to go but we all need better infrastructure with some inbuilt redundancy for when a single fast charger is down and its the only one for another 150km ....
Well said. Completely agree. I think for most people there will be no going back once they experience EV even with this charging experience as it’s rare. It’s amazing to be part of the early adopters and seeing the community and infrastructure grow, just need more of later indeed. I’m currently in USA on holiday and it’s polar opposite with EV’s and chargers everywhere. Will be submitting some videos over here on differences.
Whoah! Those roads bring back memories when we used to drive there from Kalgoorlie to Perth then back. Merridin is haftway. I used to work as a Physician in an aboriginal healthcare facility in Kalgoorlie more than 10 years ago, now I live in Canada and I own a Tesla Model Y LR. I wonder how is the Supercharger network in Western Australia.
We need more. It’s good for all other directions. Just great eastern highway and Merredin is in Need of DC. Kalgoorlie would also be good. Hopefully soon.
Hi Mike, thanks from France! I'm waiting for my first Tesla (model Y SR) in a couple of months and learning from videos like yours. It's very usefull to see how it goes in "real life"😁. It doesn't look easy without superchargers in this movie! But it will be funny to look that again in few years when electric cars will be abble to drive during probably 1000kms. Technology goes so fast. Whatever thanks for your video and remember to buy french submarines!😂
we have ordered model y rwd in uk, delivery is in dec , we had model 3 rwd before , does model y feel slow compare to 3 rwd . and what range do u get on motorways .
My summary on actual range is that it’s close to the estimated range. It is slower and you can really feel the difference in take off without dual motor however, I found that we rarely did fast take off and a minor compromise. It’s more noticeable with the regen braking, didn’t think about that but yes, only one motor means less regen and increased stopping distance that has taken a while to get used to. My passengers prefer the single motor regen though : )
Sadly pointless to own an EV in Australia with this kind of infrastructure. Unless someone puts real money down for 350KW chargers and not that kiddy 11-22kW we have everywhere I really don't see this work. Who's going to charge for 2-3 hours?

1:33 it’s because man of culture as got blue model 😜
Agreed the arm rest is amazing for road trips

Im looking forward to that, it is exciting to see it move and I'm glad we are early adopters.
10:51 amazing how much changed in 8 months for you guys out west, when comes to charging

guy! breathtaking shots!
Hopefully Synergy and Horizon will get the DC chargers installed next year
I realllllllly hope so.

It has an auto logout.
Pretty sure it’s 30 mins.

Spot on! It’s early adopter stage.
Ha ha ha.
Will do : )
Hopefully we get more Superchargers soon
Couple opened up this year already
We just ordered a Model 3 LR AWD, this kind of thing is worrying me, I guess I'll just have to use the Prado instead.
This video is quite old now. There is fast DC charging on great eastern highway.
No longer a problem.
@@mickhudsononutube cheers good to know.
So, with regen braking Up is Down and Down is Up? 🙃
Hahahaha. Indeed.

Nice content! What was your average consumption during that trip?
Ahhhh, I didn’t check!
Will have to report on the next one.
We certainly need better high speed charging infrastructure in WA. McClown needs to pull his finger...
Plans underway but not soon enough, feel like it will then be behind the need as adoption increases. Will be interesting too see.

I think learning number 1 should be don't buy all electric.
I betts you're wrong.
To me, a statement like this is a bit like saying the internet would never work. It's scary because it's new.
