I had the privilege of seeing his last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Stevie's brother Jimmie and Buddy Guy. The next day when I heard the horrible news was one of the saddest days of my life. 😢

Hey GF! Sorry I've been missing in action. I'm a HUGE Stevie Ray fan. Not sure how much you know about guitars. I play a little and use 7 gauge strings. Which means how heavy and thick they are. Most guitarists use between 7-9 gauge. Stevie Ray used 14 gauge strings, which would rip most peoples fingers tips right off, especially when he bends those heavy strings!! The man had the most beautiful hands and omg how STRONG! Just a little more info for ya about the GOAT aka Stevie Ray Vaughn. Merry Christmas sister. ❤

Yes, the live versions that are slower have so much groove. All of the versions are great but yeah, groove man. This is such a stank face song to play, still gives me chills to see him play it. But I started in 1980 and stopped with the SARS relief concert in Toronto in 2003 there were about 15 bands ending with AC/DC and the Rolling Stones. I only paid 30$. Stevie is unfortunately so good that he makes Jimi look like an amateur. There are like 50 versions of SRV playing this song that blow Jimi out of the water. It is almost sickening how good Stevie was at guitar. Took it so far beyond no one has ever done it as good since. Jimi started it all though. Nothing changes that. SRV just fucking destroyed it.

SRV version is good but you cant beat the original Jimi Hendrix version or even the Randy Hansen version which is as close to Hendrix as you can get , Randy Hansen - voodoo chile slight return is perfect homage to Hendrix and the fact that Randy Hansen is still alive and touring.
