FFXI, I miss thee so much. I will never again be able to feel the way I did whilst playing this masterpiece of a game. The score is absolutely phenomenally cosmic. Each track takes me on a journey to a distant world. I miss vanilla *cries*
+Danny Z The main reason why this game can't be replaced is because games now a days have no social aspect. You can basically do everything by yourself. For example, FFXIV is like an MMORPG with a WoW/COD engine because there really is no need for forming a group to go out adventure and do things together. In a sense this game was a get away from reality that included real life variables of social impact, having to work hard for things, and overcoming adversity while feeling accomplishment. This game needs a reboot - non of this new era casual gameplay bullshit where everything is handed to you on a silver platter.
I think the extreme difficulty of the Promathia missions added even more satisfaction to an already awesome plot line. After how long it all took, and how hard it was, seeing this ending felt less like a cutscene and more like finishing a chapter of life itself.
All these years, and I am still nearly sobbing to this video. Time goes by so fast. Our parents and guardians warned us, but we would never know just how fast time slips by without a real living frame of reference. I thank all of you that made this game so magical. The players, developers, musicians, all of it. In a weird way it guided me out of the darkest chapters of my life. Thanks to all of you, especially those of you that were with Kisho on Cerberus.
You aren't alone friend. CoP was so hard, you bumped into all sorts of people and felt massive accomplishment after each little battlefield. Finally getting to the end was already extremely rewarding but this moment was just something else, an amazing ending for such a huge special adventure with 5 other people. I also, legit cried :)
Ahhh chains of promethia, i can't believe i somehow managed to finish this with my friends (and 1 random person we needed to make a full party) BEFORE they removed the level cap and raised the level limit past 75 Truly it was the best of times & the worst of times, having to organize 5 people into doing this weekly was a nightmare on top of the insanely high difficulty of the missions themselves, the migraines, the bickering, the soul crushing near wins only to run out of time or get killed by some cheap attack, mountains of gil wasted.... Still wouldn't trade it for anything though.
I still play to this day. I've had the game since it was released in U.S. Never switched from Asura server. I remember back in the day when the level cap was 75 and just doing the CoP Chapter 1 missions required a good deal of strategy. Those Promyvion missions were extremely hard back then. But it was all so worth it. The new areas introduced brought the game to new heights. Bibiki bay became the new high-level hangout for parties. But most of all, the story stole my heart.

Most of the comments from former players of ffxi. I had quit a while back and just got back in to it few months ago.. No regrets since and lots have changed but so totally worth it. I played xiv and didnt really enjoy it as much as xi. XI will be the only MMORPG I will play for life.
I agree. I’ve accepted that they can never recreate the game or that time period in my life.. but honestly I do want them to do something to show the game it’s respects, the 75 era game. Even if they remake it into a single player game.
@DeltaX6 This song really plays when you complete Mission 8-4 in CoP. And FF VII had lyrics for the Sephiroth last battle theme. FF VIII has some lyrics in the intro and in some other part of the game + the song Eyes on Me which Faye Wong was payed 1M$USD to sing... FF IX has "Melodies of Life" the ending theme sang in both Japanese and English by Emiko Shiratori, which is beautiful. FF X has "Suteki Da Ne" sung by Rikki, another singer from Japan. FF XII has a song by Angela Aki as well...
a shame such a great song is buried so far in a place most people will never experience . it makes the song that much more enjoyable for those who have the privilege of hearing it though, like discovering buried treasure :P

Finished this storyline a couple days ago. I have to say, even though I saw this performed at FF Distant Worlds by a full orchestra, I prefer this version. I like the imperfections in pronunciation and the fact that this is barely in her range. It seems appropriate for a song called "Distant Worlds". After 6 years, I finally get to see the end :P
@Eacham i beat it a couple weeks ago.. but just finished all the cut scenes. when i heard vocals i was shocked. the ending is so beautiful i teared up too lol but didnt cry.
@DeltaX6 There were words to One Winged Angel, but it wasn't included in the booklet. It might be famous now, but back then when you reached the end of FF7, it was a real surprise. :D
Ffxi still is my number 1 mmo. Beating CoP was incredible. Exploring Tavanzia is still one of the highlights for me. Rise of the Zilart didnt hit as hard
I just beat Promathia. I have to wait till midnight to finish up. I totally agree though. I've been playing since 02'. I took a lot of breaks throughout the game. I beat Zilart. Now I got ToAU, WoTG, and now Adoulin to start working on. I totally agree with you though. The storyline is by far the best. CoP is still my favorite expansion despite the fact that they didn't introduce any new jobs. ToAU and WoTG storylines are still good but the one that steals my heart is CoP for sure.

FF11 is dear to me but the way they made so much old gear obsolete, gear that many spent an absurd amount of time to obtain is too big a blow for many. It's probably great for casual players and whatever new players it may get.. FF14 ARR is looking quite promising according to many old FF11 players, I wouldn't overlook it just yet.
Truth. Compared to XI it really is a downgrade. From storylines to gameplay and battle style....it's just nothing compared to XI. XI is not only more interesting in terms of storylines but the gameplay is so simplified. It's so easy to learn the game and how to develop battle strategy. And with the release of Adoulin, it shows the game is still strong - and XIV will never be anywhere close to it. It's still growing and under development after 11 years. XIV will never live up to XI's standards.
maybe since im only gen z i had a bit of trouble learning to play ffxi and had to look up guides and stuff but it was really easy for me to learn stuff in ffxiv.. altho ur comment was only 9 years ago XD
i like 14 more (granted i started with it) but id say the game came into its own, however i will say that gameplay wise the game started going downhill at Shadowbringers when yoship decided to abandon tp altogether
Miss this game, I was one of the first on unicorn to finish this story, I was really good at the level cap missions, pushed like 40 ppl through the 30 cap and the weApons....omega sucked lol

Izumi Masuda's has more expression than susan when it comes to how she's approaching and reacting to each individual word and syllable. It makes for a more personal interpretation of the lyrics. Like I love the final "your" that she whispers before she hit's the final word "song" which is missing from Susan's more predictable approach. Tho in Susan's case, she captures the grandiose feeling of the piece and makes it more huge and beautiful in that regard. How she sustains the notes and her vibratos hit really hard. But personally Izumi's approach I think fit's 11's style and atmosphere much more which is why I think it was great that they went with her. Susan can be a bit too abrasive in her singing style that just doesn't fit 11's more chill and dreamy vibe. Also Izumi isn't really having issues hitting those high notes at all, she tends to hit the pitch pretty well one with a good light tone of sustain with a bit of vibrato at the end for flavor which I find more tasteful. Which again I think fits for what 11 is going for instead of Susan's more intense vibrato. I've seen live performances of both and they both do an amazing job!
This was by far the best expansion for the game. The story was so insanely gripping that I HAD to finish it. The ending really did make me tear up. :)

I lost almost 2 levels doing COP. but it was worth it. This cutscene had me stunned. It was a wonderful game. I still cry watching this

No XIV is garbage.
the engrish is cringeworthy in this version and it sounds like she had some issues hitting the really high notes, but I still love the song overall.
Susan Calloways version really neuters this one imo (shame soken didnt rehire her after Uematsu got sick and they dropped him)
