In a nutshell, I ‘m an avid dumpster diver, scrapper, picker, treasure hunter and underwater connoisseur. I prowl the city streets in search of dumpster loot, curbside treasures & scrap metal as well as scour the river bottoms for lost valuables during the summer months when I can scrounge up enough money for gas. Mike, look if the belt sander motor has an run capacitor. Should be replaced. humming noise means, the motor coils are OK, but with a dead cap there is no rotation.
Even a lose wire can be the culprit.

There’s a big difference between “curb side”mike and “night scavenger” mike. Night scavenger mike just flings it in the truck and goes, curb side mike keeps it organized.
Notice he waits to rip apart the ceiling fan until he's away.
That's smart. People often put stuff out that they fantasize some other person can use and are distressed to see what they've put out ripped apart.

All you need is a ratchet straps. The struts will be safe to take apart.
Mike I super appreciate you acknowledging my comment. For some reason it meant a lot to me. I look at you as somewhat of a movie star. I’ve always been a dumpster diver and scrounged in what people throw away when I was a kid back in 56 and 55 and on up me and my dad would go up to the garbage dump. I would pick up everything I wanted and put it in a pile and my dad would come over and tell me oh you don’t need that to various different things. Sometimes it kind of pissed me off but he was the boss
What about making a video of you favorite/best finds, whether it's things you kept or let go? Either way I love watching you work 😁
Use a right angle grinder to cut the coil spring about in the middle while it's together that will release the pressure of the spring then just take the top nut off if you have a yard that scrapping cars they'll take those struts in one piece

*A few times I've come across non-working equipment and a wire push on connector popped off from the switch. I had the same exact thing happened with a almost brand new huge wet vac I found, and when I pulled the switch out to check continuity on it, a wire was disconnected, I'm still using it 5 years later.* *Anything that's been dropped/possibly dropped and doesn't work, that would definitely be a good thing to check, as well as see if it has a inline fuse that may be blown before ruling the motor is bad.*
Yeah with the motor not even humming im thinking they dropped it and a wire popped loose and it gets power to the switch but not the motor.. could be a super easy fix

*Just imagine what you could get in your truck if you used a cordless reciprocating saw to cut shelves, long poles and other things like them so they'll lay flat, I say this from watching almost all of your videos and still continuing, keep them coming, you really make my day with your upbeat attitude.*

Those aluminum chairs are worth a good bit after clean up but take up so much space.

He might of looked inside when he stopped to stand it up right. He didn't want to do it in front of the owners. Like he said no one helps him he does this all by himself. He has to be strong in order to do this almost everyday by himself. I would hate to get sucker punched by him you know it will hurt he might even break a bone or two.

This curb side was 90% scrap. Little resaleables. Sometimes scrap pays better then yard sale. I like it.

Here is a little tip for you even though you might already know it some might not. If you see someone getting rid of a trampoline take the part that you jump on and use it for a scrap cover to help hold stuff in your truck. The air will blow through it instead of catching it like a trap does. Let me know if it works for you.

Hi mike, my yard wont take the shocks because most of them are oil filled. Drill a hole in the shock, drain the oil and they are good to go. As for the macferson struts, the spring has to come off before they take em. Stay safe.🏴

Have you noticed that refrigerators now have a sealed back so you can't clean the compressor or condenser fins? Planned obsolescence? Sweet little sander. Delta from the 90s isn't great but a 40 or 50 dollar bill at a yard sale - those are noted for capacitors going bad even while they were new in the box on the shelf. Open it up and see if it has a capacitor you can swap out.

Mike, those springs on the struts are under extremely dangerous pressure. The cheap spring compressors are dangerous to use. For your safety I'd say the juice aint worth the squeeze on springs on struts.

You should put the buckets on the same side, then they will only take up room on one side, not decrease the width of the truck by double.
My Momma always called me the queen of push shove and cram 😂 maybe I should've done this before my health got stupid 😅❤
Instead of a single hole for the buckets cut a groove so you can slide them back and forth to make room for items and use your bolt system with a lock washer to lock it in place when positioned.

Before you throw the sander out or rip out the motor check the switch it may be something small and easy to replace and you can get parts for delta stuff.

Mike DONT get a spring compression tool, they are very dangerous. When you use them you have to put more pressure on the spring making it even more dangerous, I would just say skip them and let another scrapper deal with them. Not worth risking your life for a couple dollars
I have a place that takes them. Have you ever seen one of those machines that make little pieces from big pieces ?
They take anything like preasurerised containers and break them down to scrap metal.
I agree. If you don't have a place to bring as is they are not worth dealing with.
It bugs me the amount of people who won't do the math before they make suggestions to Scrappers on how to do their job.
Yeh run over to auto zone and rent a tool then run back home and undo the shocks then run back to auto zone. 2.5 hours later and fuel burnt running back and forth you get maybe $4 in scrap. $1.5 / hour is not the goal in scrapping.

Ive seen those strut springs goin thru a roof in a shop. The guy had a homemade spring compression tool and it didnt hook on one side and he compressed the spring to get the nut off the strut and the spring shot straight up in the air and thru the metal roof.
Omg! I didn't know what those springs could do! I just found one last night. Dropped it onto the asphalt getting it out. Dropped it on the ground at home... threw it into the truck today... like no biggie... lucky me. Now I'm scared to drive to the yard with it...
