    All this economic cultural stuff is very grounded in logic and real anthropological information. It's fascinating how much thought and care you put into these people.

    Another interesting group of folks from an equally interesting world! Not gonna lie, I'm pretty darn interested to find out how their interactions with your other civilization will be like given that one is in the magic "infertility zone" applies to one and not the other.
    I imagine they must find it very odd given how everyone is genetically the same aside from the few outliers that are higher up in the pecking order if I understand correctly.

      And that the Basin people are mostly women. Identical women at that. I guess the Foragers think of the basin people as "those weird people with a lot of identical women" and the basin people think the foragers as "those weird people with a lot of different appearances"

      THIS. Not to mention the stuff going on with magic in the area.
      Kind of makes me wonder if this world ever gets a magic system; how will these two kinds of people be doing with it... 🤔

    I'm quite interested at the moment in food staple crops. I've been doing some light research into stuff like wheat, rice, maize, and potatoes, but a world separate from ours likely won't have these crops.

    • @WorldbuildingNotes
      @WorldbuildingNotes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I have created a maize-like crop for this area of my world! I do need a few more staples though. It's fun to think about what people eat and how they cook.

      Cameo Shadowness, they must also have longer legs too, because all thats needed to contain pigs in our world is a 9" fence, and for pigs to live in mountains, they need more climbing ability.

      Or specialized feet (depending on steepness). A blubbery long leged pig.... Or maybe it has special hair instead... Either way it is a funny idea. Maybe there will be multiple varieties. One with extra blubber and one with extra fur. Both with long legs wich could be a huge joke for us but make sense for them.

    Find out next time! So the ones they trade with are they the same culture, or are the harbor people from elsewhere?
    And did you used to do voices for spooky podcasts? Your voice sounds familiar sometimes.

      They trade with the people from the river basin culture! They are the ones with the sail boats.
      And no, I've never been involved in spooky podcasts, though I used to co-host the SpiderForest Webcomic Podcast, which was a completely non-spooky show.

    Wild pigs in our world tipicly prefer dens forests in colder climates, and dens brush. (tall grass and large bushes, with few trees) what unique adaptations do the pigs that live in the mossy mountains in your word have, that help them live in a climate that is so different from were they live in our world? More fur and longer legs maybe?

    • @WorldbuildingNotes
      @WorldbuildingNotes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They do stick to the grassier/bushier areas. As for adaptations, I'm not sure how much of that would happen in 2000 years.

    I was thinking about this today. I tried looking it up but I couldn’t find any info. Is there a certain population density that means hunting and gathering is no longer viable and a population is basically forced to look towards agriculture?

    • @WorldbuildingNotes
      @WorldbuildingNotes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the environment. In the North American Northwest Coast, there were whole small towns of sedentary hunter-gatherers, with population densities up to 200 people per square kilometre. They didn't need to turn to agriculture because salmon was just so plentiful. You'd have to figure this one out on a case-by-case basis.

    What dialect of English is it you speak that you pronounce "ng" (as in "long" or "running") as / ŋg / and not / ŋ /?

    • @WorldbuildingNotes
      @WorldbuildingNotes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not a native speaker. I know I'm not supposed to pronounce that "g" at the end of words like "long" and just say /loŋ/, but I can't seem to make myself stop doing it. In my native language (Polish), [ŋ] is only ever used as an allophone to /n/ before velar consonants, so I guess my brain just refuses to believe that one could have a [ŋ] in a word without it being followed by a velar consonant.
