My dad was born on a farm in Bentonville, Arkansas. One year when we went on vacation to see my grandparent my dad brought home an old cast iron waffle maker. He had a friend sandblast it and then he oiled it with bacon fat and put it in our oven to heat up. My dad always cooked breakfast except on Sunday mornings when my mom took over the job. I remember him cooking us buckwheat waffles, bacon or sausage and eggs all thru grade school and high school. He would wake up my brother and I by coming into our bedroom and yelling "wake up, it's daylight in the swamp". He got that saying when he trained in the Louisiana swamps prior to landing in North Africa with Patton's "Shock Troops". He was at the Battle of the Bulge, Omaha Beach and fought in 14 countries thru Europe and North Africa. Dad lived to be 100 yr. and four months, to my brother and I he was always our hero.
@@austinhuff283 Yes, we visited there a few years ago, it had really grow compared to when I was a kid. My grandparents had 80 acres, two stock ponds that I loved to fish from and 10 acres of timber to explore. To me it was better than going to Disneyland!
Thank-you Jason-have a great Thanksgiving with friends, be safe. I can imagine you constantly get compliments on your theme music but I can’t say enough in a world full of noise called music, that song has a spiritual quality about it-the words especially-Thank-you😊
This makes me miss the Mountains, Absolutely stunning area and you live such a peaceful life. Thank you for sharing your experience and story with us, Priceless times spent with a great friend is phenomenal
72 ain’t old. And notice your friend. He swings the axe and lets the axe do the work. You, on the other hand, chopped the wood. He let the axe do the work. One thing you learn as you get older, you work smarter.
@stanleyj.mitchell4851 work smarter not harder! But also depends on your tools, a good tradesman never blames his tools. Gary's axe is heavier and longer by the looks of it so you can use the weight of the head itself to do the work.
Good for Gary. 72 here too and a bit rusty but I still get out at least once a month ... except for Jan & Feb when the (my) pipes freeze up. Enjoyed your video, as always! 👍
First time watching. Great video! I like videos that show the subtle camp chores that make the experience even more rewarding, like processing firewood. The shots of you and Gary working together on a common goal works on several levels...and it was well shot! I'd go camping with you guys any day! ... I'll keep watching.
WHY THE HELL DO YOU FOLKS THINK WE OLDER ONES CANT DO SHIT ????? I get up 4:30 EVERY SINGLE DAY !!!! I Farm and work more hours in a week then some do in a month!!!! Granted I dont do 80 plus hours a week now but still getting 50 or 60 in! Your never to old!!!!
I like how basic you keep things Jason, no fancy gadgets. Just plain old simple gear. I spent years Overlanding across Africa and the Middle East, NZ and a quite a few other places. I have seen so many vehicles weighed down by pointless crap all over the place. My rule has always been ‘keep it simple, sweet’. Nothing on my vehicles even my van now comes along on any trip unless it has a minimum of two uses. My time in the Army also taught me to keep kit to a minimum and not clutter. Great video buddy. I want to be like that fella helping you when i’m 70 too. What a top bloke.
Back in the old days grandma used to say the only way to treat the cast iron is Lard bacon grease . I still have a 100 yr old pan we use still looks new Love the cast iron . ""RIDE ON""
great video as always and song ... perfect ...man. I remember when years ago I watched your video and first time I heard this song, I thought this song should be like your anthem. 🙃..regards from TX🤘
I remember the earlier days watching you deal with van issues.....And now you have a fantastic setup. That seriously looks like some quality time spent. I really enjoyed that, my kind of life.
You're in a beautiful part of the country. I haven't been out there many times but always a joy. Time shared outdoors is time well spent. Must say, fine work on that hung up tree. Much cleaner work than the mysterious buckshot beaver's attempt. 🌲
Enjoyed the video thanks. (where's the turkey?) Years back I cut & split a good deal of wood (hard & soft) & then at times would enjoy a wood fire, the glow & ambience. You got to share it with a friend; good food, drink and plenty of solitude & a lovely stream. The cast iron frying pans bring back memories also. Hopefully you get to retreat before the heavy snow comes.
@over_and_out_gary 😀 .yeah I'm settled in terms of my living situation.. but not nearly settled in terms of my outdoors activities.. and watching you guys .. well it's bittersweet if you know what I mean
Missed ya ! Hope to see the next one ! Was worry about that tree . You guys did a good job With it. I'm too old to run very fast. I think I would've hooked my windship to the bottom and drug it !!😅
think i know where you guys are camping. Hopefully not too much snow. If I am right that road is getting terrible coming in from the east side. I would tell your people to come in from the west side. Really have to deflate the tires a lot on the jeep.
Wow. 72 years old and getting around great! Fresh air is priceless! Great video!
72 ain’t old. I would go stir crazy if I couldn’t go camping. Age is a number.
Going to be 86 next month and still love it outdoors even though it’s difficult to get around. No chopping wood but can use a saw

Your dad sounds awesome. Not much farmland in Bentonville these days. We live near there and my wife works there. It’s a fast growing area.
Wow, your dad was something…. a great American….🇺🇸. We Thank God for Men like him….!!
@@firepwr21 Thank you.

He’s a great American hero.
As a 60 year old, I hope the same will be said of me and I am doing as good as Gary when I am 72.
I'm 59 and had enough of this shit, might hit the road soon , getting supplies now.
Nice day chopping wood with a good friend...preparing for the turkey feast .
Thank-you Jason-have a great Thanksgiving with friends, be safe. I can imagine you constantly get compliments on your theme music but I can’t say enough in a world full of noise called music, that song has a spiritual quality about it-the words especially-Thank-you😊
Gary is a workhorse.

Pretty sureJason was chopping the wood because its called “chopping” wood
Im sorry. But I'm 58 years old... and 72 is old AF!
@stanleyj.mitchell4851 work smarter not harder! But also depends on your tools, a good tradesman never blames his tools.

There's a Bigfoot in the background laughing at you guys chopping wood. He's fixing to come over and show you all. LOL
They say Spam spray is butane now days
Some oil on the van doors would be good 😂
Only thing better than sitting next to a campfire with the beverage of choice is doing with a good friend 🫶
Thanks for another good video jason, keep em coming.

Is there room for a hard hat in your van, Jason? It’d be a good idea for when you’re playing lumberjack!
