You mentioned seeing everything at a glance a few times. My current view is unexpanded - so I see everything in one glance. What you showed makes it look like I’m going to have to swipe and scroll so much more just to achieve the same result as before. What a shocker Garmin. Thanks for the comprehensive review mate
I honestly prefer the current layout. Vertical scrolling with the smaller, more compact glances is a more efficient use of space than the bigger views of the beta. And then with the horizontal scrolling glances, you can only ever see one at a time whereas with a vertical layout, it's possible to see multiple data fields at once. Just feels like change for changes sake.
Garmin should provide an option to have a choice of new or old look. I'm very used to the current look and I don’t really need to change it. My view may change once I play with the new look but I don’t want to be chasing a moving target.
The only update I needif tobe able to change the order. So maybe some days I want my training status on top, other days my body battery…

@@Mascha_Eleonora But you don't need an update for that. You can easily rearrange the cards by scrolling to the bottom of the My Day page and tapping on Edit My Day. 🤔
Still waiting for Garmin to remove the Golf menu entry, or make it possible to replace it with something else, like Ultra og Triathlon or Sailing..., anything else. What makes Golf so special from other activities, that it needs its own specific menu entry?
Garmin offers a full line of products for golf. It is a large portion of there rd budget. Makes sense that the golf ap is a core app like running, swimming, etc.
Garmin really needs new designers and UX specialists. From a design & communication/education perspective, they appear to be the worst in the market. Honestly. Fitbit, withings, Samsung health...they are all doing a WAY better job. How can it be that the most expensive watches have the worst UI 😂
The redesign looks 10 years behind the market, not a major improvement for me on the previous fugly design. Such a letdown. Don't hold your breath for this.
It's been outdated almost from its inception. I have no idea why they took so long to update the original. Maybe, they just gave up and are only making minor changes because everyone is now on Stava. Lol.
Great review. So sad that Garmin missed to update their calender. Still useless if you want to get an overview of your activities of the last months, how much running you did, how much hiking etc.
Great video! I was totally unaware of that. I totally totally totally agree with the need for them to shift to "batch select" for multiple things, basically everywhere where you could add something you should be able to add multiple things at the same time. And awesome idea about health summary at the top. I really appreciate seeing that snapshot in other apps great video!
What's great about Garmin is that you don't have to sign up for a specific plan. You can register for an event and have it do daily suggestions based off of your goal time that are more impressive than their stock half marathon limited training plans. It's also neat that these sessions dynamically update based on how strong you feel after each session, and possibly other vital stats. I'd really love it if Garmin allowed you to look at the daily suggestions in the app and get greater insight as to the purpose of the sessions.
Strange thing is this doesn't work on my Garmin Epix Pro. I added an event, I have the race widget on the watch, with the predicted race time (and my goal time) but no daily suggestions or training plan. So confused. I took the official event from the suggestions in the Android app (Antwerp 10 miles on 21st of April), already did several workouts but still nothing. Garmin support doesn't seem to be able to help me either :( Pretty frustrating. The only thing I can think of is that the event doesn't have a course added to it but one would think just having the date & distance & goal time would be enough?
Bummer that the Training Plan card is limited to only the Garmin plans. It would be much better if it provided a list of scheduled workouts from the calendar for the week. That way it would also show the workouts imported from 3rd party like Final Surge or Training Peaks! Garmin already allows syncing with those platforms so why not complete the integration?
I don't know if it's already available, but, is it possible to show in the calendar the Garmin suggested workouts that you have on your Garmin watch? In order to see the suggested workouts in the app instead of being forced to check them in the watch
What are your thoughts about garmin requiring an internet connection to sync data from the watch to the phone? I feel like this is a unnecessary hassle. There are times when people are away from data but it would be nice to see the data on the phone. Also the time the servers went down meant you couldn't see anything in the app.
Doesn't really matter to me. This is the case with just about every smart watch out there. For me personally I don't mind waiting to sync my device until I'm back on the grid. I suppose there could be a use case for sync'ing on the go but I'm not sure what that would be.
i am very annoyed with these changes tbh. they should let us have the option to keep the old look. i very much dislike the whole "glances" concept they are pushing. on my instinct 2x, i hate the glances, it forces me to do at least 2 clicks of buttons to get to the data, instead of just letting me scroll through the full widget / data. we go to our phone app to see the detailed data, but now they are making the same mistake with the app. i don't want glances in the connect app, i want the details in a dense and intuitive format. scrolling up and down on a smartphone makes the most sense, it works better the way it is now scrolling for me, than the stupid glances boxes that show no useful details, forcing you to go further through menus with more steps to get to the data. the only positive i see with the update is the browser interface will be improved, which has been terrible for ages imo.
Seems like this might be an update just for Garmin to be able to say they have updated their platform and not because they have actually added anything useful. In fact it seems as if the platform will be less user friendly, less flexible, and containing less relevant data.
I used to like to have multiple dashboards on the webpage. My favorite part of Garmin has always been setting goals and checking in the dashboard, now you cannot add Goals nor Gear. I hope the final version will fix that.
Just hope they change Garmin Connect's units to be more like the watches. I use feet for elevation, km for distance, pounds for weight and right now i have to convert everything because Canadian isnt an option on the app.
Your video is amazing as always, but in my opinion the previous version looked better. It seemed that everything was easily readable and you could fit everything in one page.
My question as well. Maybe I am just old but having a calendar where you can see the name/description of the session you did is the most important feature when trying to analyse the past and the build up. It is basically unusable now. Web version is ok.
In this new release has Garmin improved its ability to sync data automatically from other platforms such as iFit? The current version seems to bring in the basic activity and couple of metrics but not everything that it could. I have to manually enter the data into the activities area to fill in the missing data.
Thanks to this "update" I've switched back to my old apple watch. I forgot how nice it is to be able to go through emails. I used to be a big Garmin fan but no being able to use the old UI just sucks too much.
The newest version 4.76 as of March 2203 has added yesterday and 7-day data at the bottom of the home screen. They have toggles under the edit home settings.

What about Connect IQ store? It looks so dated and it runs so slow. More than that I think they can live under the same umbrella (Connect and Connect IQ)
Old one ( recent) app is really uncomfortable to take data from. My old Zepp Amazfit is much more informative and everything logically placed. If I could have the same precise HR optical monitor as Garmin has I would pick my Amazfit GTR 3 instead of Forerunner 245 anyday.
Disconnects are likely not the fault of Garmin but your phone. The Garmin app needs to always be running in the background otherwise it loses it's connection. If you open a bunch of apps/chrome tabs your phone inevitable runs out of RAM and will close Garmin Connect to run the tasks at the forefront. It's annoying, but a common problem with most smartwatches unless they're made by the phone manufacturer like Samsung or Apple.
@@ChaseTheSummit that's cool about the scrolling, but as someone who needs glasses I appreciate the current form of the app. Making shit smaller and more compact is not always the answer 😬🇫🇮
I guess it depends how you look at it. It seems to me they take a utilitarian approach rather than trying to make things pretty which is OK with me. But it would be nice to see a bit more polish in some areas.
You can turn that off if you don't want it. I personally kind of like it since you can put your most important data there and swipe through it quickly.
I wonder if it's specified in Garmin's brand guidelines that every UI has to be ugly. I have maybe the least horrible watch GUI (epix gen 2), but it's still "meh" at best. The connect iOS app and the web app are visually outdated and their information architecture is chaotic. Even the physical objects are ugly. Yes, the one I have looks stupid with unnecessary "sport watchy" details like emphasized screws and bumps and gutters, the watch sweating to look though. I switched from Suunto three watches ago because that one missed a few key features, but I am almost constantly looking at their new pieces so I could switch back for the sake of the nordic simplicity and elegance. Also, the functionality (or UX design) shown in the video is just plain stupid. Horizontal scroll here is not really scroll, we will have to swipe through (the difference: scrolling it continuous, swiping is not). The repetitive process of adding a glance/tile/whatever is a joke. Do UX designers work for this company? (I am one.)
So..., not that much. Same'ish app, different colours. Not much improvement for pro use, witch has been a Garmin problem for many years. Other services do a much better job, using the Garmin data.
No. Retrograde. Just moved things around and reduced data. Remove "In Focus" cards. Too large with blank space. Shouldn't be on homepage. Reinstate small horizontal cards on homepage that opens up to more detail as before as text and the eye naturally moves left to right. "At a glance" is a really poor title. Reinstate 1 & 7 day data. Add VO2 max graph to app. It's on the watch. Reinstate function to remove latest activity from homepage. I like positive change. This isn't. Sorry.
It looks dull, boring, same old, same old. They could've completely given the app a whole fresh futuristic look, but no just shuffle a few things around. I'M DISAPPOINTED‼️
@@ChaseTheSummit fair enough. Just little lack of patience on my part since it’s been quite a wait already. I just hope they add more features and more importantly improve the navigation of the side panel to make it easier to find/tweak things. Wish they integrated most of their features into one functional app as well instead of multiple apps for each thing.

For how many years I have been using garmin, I really did hope to get the beta! But nope!
It's by invite only right now and I think only for media folks. Don't worry, it will be available to everyone soon!
I got it and my husband had an invite but declined. We are just regular Garmin users.
the first 15 seconds of this video is reason why i don't like amoled on sport watches
It takes some getting used to.
Is this a sponsored video?
Absolutely not.
@@ChaseTheSummit I just don't understand why you think this is better. It's way more work to see anything.
the existing one is way better.
If they lose the last rolling 7 day view…I am going to be annoyed. Already going to Strava for calendar views, monthly and weekly views.
I have a feeling it will make it's way back in. This is still beta. We will see soon!
Horizontal scrolling is a terrible idea; just stick to vertical and it will not get unnecessarily complicated.
You can turn that off if you don't want it. I personally kind of like it since you can put your most important data there and swipe through it quickly.
How do you turn off horizontal scrolling?
TLDR: Same same, just looks partially different.
If it's partially different, how can it be same same? 🤔
@@ChaseTheSummit no new features.
Pigs should not wear makeup.. 😂 Try again Garmin.
Horrible… less information, only one screen updated… wtf?!
No.
This isn't. Sorry.
The "Focus" cards can be turned off in the settings if you don't like them. I suspect the 1-7 day averages will reappear in the full roll out.
@@ChaseTheSummit Shouldn't have been released. Even as a beta it is poor. Garmin is taking its customers for granted.
What a downgrade
It looks dull, boring, same old, same old. They could've completely given the app a whole fresh futuristic look, but no just shuffle a few things around.
I'M DISAPPOINTED‼️
Thanks for sharing. I'm sure they're scrolling the comments for feedback
finally
Garmin connect is terribly outdated and not compelling to use at all.
Tried to watch your presentation but had to stop. Please pause for breath!!
You can slow the video down by using the speed controls at the bottom of the screen.
Polar users rn -> 😢
Polar Flow is still great! (could use an update though)
I swear by Garmin but damn! This is a 🗑️ update.
Still in beta. We'll have to see what the final product looks like before jumping to conclusions!
This new look sucks, I don't know anyone who likes it. I'm getting rid of my Garmin watch.
Ditching the watch over a change in the app? Interesting!
So in other words it sucks
