The ringing of the bells of the oldest Romanesque bell tower in Cremona (Italy)

- The bell tower of the Church of Saint Agatha is the oldest in the city of Cremona (Italy). The wonderful city of Cremona has many works of art and this bell tower was built in 1100, so for more than nine hundred years it has been original and has never been modified. The tower houses five bells from various eras and in this video they all ring to announce the Angelus on the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord, which is celebrated worldwide on 25 March at the start of spring.

The collegiate church of St. Agatha is considered the most important church in the city of Cremona after the cathedral. The church was first built in 1077, only to be completely rebuilt in Romanesque style during the 12th century. Only the bell tower, the oldest in the entire city of Cremona, remains from this historical moment. The ancient Romanesque church was completely rebuilt in 1496 by Bernardino de Lera, preserving the original plan and five-nave division. The current neoclassical façade is the work of Cremonese architect Luigi Voghera, who completed it between 1836 and 1845, creating an Ionic pronaos typical of ancient Greek classical temples. The interior was completely redone in the second half of the 19th century, when the 1872 frescoes replaced the ancient 16th-century decoration. The Latin cross-shaped interior was lengthened during the early 20th century, when the presbytery area was restored.
