Fantastic reaction. And yes, "Man of Steel" is a masterpiece that continues to hold up to this day. Why it didn't get a direct sequel is all due to the WB Executives. They wanted the film to make one billion dollars right off the bat and said anything less would be a "disappointment". When the movie came out, it grossed about $668 million dollars for its box office run, more than "Batman Begins" and Marvel's "Iron Man" film, but that still wasn't enough for the executives so they decided to forgo a direct sequel despite Zack Snyder, David S. Goyer, and Christopher Nolan all saying otherwise. Instead, they decided throw Batman into the next movie and make "Batman V. Superman: Dawn Justice". The "Ultimate Edition" of that film is great, but it's very clear it was meant to be a direct Man of Steel sequel.
The watch order after this is Batman v Superman ultimate edition remastered, wonder woman and Epic Zack Snyder's Justice league. I am hoping to watch these movies along with you.

I watched in cinemas when I was 14 and I remember having goosebumps. Honestly, it was so annoying that people wanted another marvel style movie. I like DC for the very reason that they are darker. When I look back at a lot of marvel movies, I realise many weren't that good either. They just had good marketing.

This saga was supposed to be a five-movie arc centered around Superman. So, Superman was the character who experienced all the ups and downs, and the story revolved around him in every movie.
Universal will restore them. They aren't as naive as WB/DCU. Gunn's ego won't get the best of them. It's more cash over ego, so it's truly going to be restored. No if's about it.

There are many reasons but the gist of it is that Snyder’s movies weren’t making a billion like avengers was and the studio thought that meant they were failures. So they started interfering with the movies and others. Focusing more and forced humor than good stories then they fired Zack snyder and completely abandoned his plan.
WB didn’t want to work with Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill, WB wanted to like a Marvel movie not serious, always have fun bla bla bla. DC done to me, Zack Snyder did good work Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Zack Snyder Justice League, now all DC movies are just a trash.

The simple answer is the critics couldn't get past the fact that Superman killed Zod. Then WB put pressure on Zack to not be so dark and to also speed up the process to be more like marvel. Instead of a MOS 2 they did batman v Superman and then JL. Critics again complained it was Too dark and not funny like marvel ( DC should Never be like Marvel.) Zack was filming JL and his daughter died. Out of frustration Zack walked away and was replaced by Josh whedon who did what the studio wanted and changed JL to be more like marvel and it Bombed at the theaters.
