- We FINALLY mount the 54 inch tires on the Unimog and it couldn't look any more epic! We hope you guys enjoy the video. We absolutely don't advise any of the methods we used. NOW WE"RE MOTIVATED
Can I suggest investing in a 60” hi lift jack because you’ll need one eventually.✌️😊
Yeah. That's when a flat tire really scares ya! Can you imagine? Large Rock climb, flexed up, off camber and on a hill, then you tear the sidewall out (because shit never happen in a convenient place). Apart from the expense, how to change the wheel out when its sketchy even in a shed? Might need to invest in a PTO driven hydraulic pump and 4x permanently mounted wheel lift rams (kinda like crane stabilizers but probably mounted on the inside of the wheels). Must admit, does look sick!
High lifts are very dangerous. They need a floor jack. They make off road floor jacks now
I was thinking an old school chain block hoist...hung from a beam?
Good job using what you have to get it done. Love it when logs are a part of the toolbox.
When the banjo gets changed to eletric & and percussion, you know things are getting serious 😮
Looks awesome!
😂
Nice..... I have 404 portals on my Jeep. I run 42 inch Pit Bulls and they are great in the snow. Those 416 are real nice. Most people run the Micky's backwards to help them grab. Nice to see some mogs in Central Oregon .......Bend area.
Can’t beat portals in the snow 😎
Just now seeing your build, OH WOW THAT"S HUGE! Well done with the little equipment, such a balancing act you managed very well, kudos! Looking forward to seeing more.
Cheers 🤠
I use the log technique all the time, it works great! Easy to adjust the height with a chainsaw and surprisingly stable.
This is gonna be sick, looking forward to the end result. Also, like your style of getting things done.
Thank you!
I’d be just sitting for hours smiling at that sucker. Sweet rig
Same 😎
❤ I can’t wait to see this in the snow ⛄️
I think it would look great if you could raise the bottom of the back of the cab to bottom height of bed. maybe like 4 inch body lift. Such a cool rig !
We’ll see 🤠
Buddy, please don't lift the cab and don't do red-neck tuning. You have portal axles! Just change the tires to a smaller and that will be enough. This also better for the transmission to work.
This might not be the page for you
Smaller tire? Hahhahahhahha. Wait. Are you serious? I don't understand.
@@threecreeksbackcountry😂😂😂
@@threecreeksbackcountrylove this reply 😂
Sweet. Cannot wait to see that pull out.
Looks like a Sherp, now. 👍🏼
Great job. Hope it clears the door.
It will 😎
Should have filmed the recovery and edited 90% of the tire install.
I mean DANG that was a tough watch. Lol.
We did film the recovery. Go check it out on our page 😎
I’m sure this is the Same feelings one would get watching paint dry 😢
@@King_Of_The_Hill ‘Preciate it
lot of work to get them on, but the truck looks great!😊
It’s almost like a sherp. I bet it would float. Looks bad ass bro
We might have to try and float it 😂
Hard working man.

Hell yea, fucking send it. Those 54’s look badass. Awesomeness 💪🏾🤙🏾
Thank you!
That's freaking awesome how y'all built that. I'd love to have a unit like that for hunting
Looks cool with the big tires.
What a monster! 👍🏽😀❤️🇺🇸
wow great job. Incredible proces that you make it look easy! How do you like your Milwaukee Electric Impact wrench?
We love our Milwaukee Impact 😎
Sketchy...subscribed. 🤣
Nice!
Cool vehicle and all about using the tools you got. But holy cow, go spend a couple hundred $ on a decent floor jack and jack stands to make your life easier! I mean, you spent at least $5k, and probably more, on those tires and wheels.
I was coming to the comments to say this.
Blew the monthly budget on tires and wheels 😂
Hey looks sick buddy 🤙🏼 Glaf you got the tires on. What’s the goal with the rig anyways. You going offer snow tours?
Yes 😎
You have a tilt bed truck… put it under the front frame and lift with that.
The Fuso bed has a LOT of overhang. Lifting the heavy Mog would be a lot of leverage and strain exactly where we don't want it. We just finished repairing the Fuso bed last year and don't want to tear it up again. But it was definitely tempting
That thing is cool !!!
Looks awesome man!!! You got a new sub !!!
Awesome thank you!
What gears are in the portals?
You going to the Mouth?..you must be close around
Not sure the Unimog is still much of a mystery to us. We haven’t torn into it yet 🤠
So many haters, the engine will definitely have enough power with minor adjustmets eveything will be fine. You will probably need wider hubs for steer angle as the drum axles hubs are narrower than disc's, i had the same tires on my 406 maybe u seen it its mostly black with som red beadlock wheels. a 20 ton offroad floor jack and it just barely lifts high enough to get the 54s off the ground but it would definitely save you alot of time. 🎉
@riedertech5749 I just saw on my wife’s Facebook you are parting out your Mog. How much do you want for the front Fenders? 😁 shipping to Oregon shouldn’t be too bad
What transmission do you have in this truck?
One thing to add to your list if you haven't done it already is to replace the power steering belt! I lost my belt in my truck with big tires and it was soo scary! I now replace that belt every year.
We always carry extra belts after we had a break on the trail. Our belt broke on the Land Cruiser one time and we had to improvise. We used 12 gauge wire and it actually worked pretty well😎🤠
As for the transmission, I don’t know off the top of my head. This Unimog is still very much a mystery to us. As for the Land Rover, I could pretty much name every part 😂
I'll rewatch all the Unimog videos you have to see if I can catch a better glimpse of the shifters. I have a really good writing diagram I can shoot you or answer questions you have.
*wiring diagram
@@threecreeksbackcountry The transmission is an 8 speed. 4 gears in the high range and 4 gears in the low range. It is the same transmission as a 6 speed execpt the shift logic plate is different. Without a PTO and/or 20 speed transmission it likely has a single clutch. Maybe you have them stored away, but the hydraulic control levers that mount below the steering wheel and extend through the firewall and connect to the hydraulic valve are missing.
Cool video but when you couldn’t get the front passenger wheel on you could just turn the steering wheel to mount it then go under. Good luck.
It was quicker just to address the problem at hand. Also turning the tires while most of the weight is supported by a single jack point poses its own risks. There’s always a thousand ways to get something done and it’s always easier the second time
You'll need to lower the diff or transfer box ratios to compensate for the tyres, or you'll break stuff!
We’ll see
Uni needs a ls motor and and a wrecker boom. Think 48s would be a good fit.
The straight 6 diesel in it is much more suited for the job than an LS 😎
Watch out for the lugs on the RF tire pulling the spring-armored hose off the bottom of the hydraulic tank, while turning left over a bump. Better relocate it, ask how I know.
Noted
Got a new sub !!! Looking good man 🤟
I wanted to spend thirty minutes watching someone literally jack of ID go to an old folks home!
It's awesome
Thanks!
Awesome channel and video looks good
Nice!
Are the axles strong enough if you get her in a real bind in the rocks?
We'll find out. But we're not planning on being in any rocks, this is designed to run snow tours in the winter
Awesome. Thanks.
Ain't stupid ifn it works
wouldn't be worth going to Harbor Freight and get a tall jack?
I’d probably trust logs more than Harbor Freight jacks 😉
Why do all these US channels insist on using the BS “in the world” all the while , it’s a great build , to,your credit , have fun , we built these in Iceland twenty years ago .motorcycles are the off road don .rust free mog awesome
Would you have clicked on the video if it didn’t say that 🤔
I hope folks riding in the back will be protected from flying rocks and mud coming off those “tires”.
It’s part of the experience
❤
What size engine are you gonna get?
It’s already got the engine. It’s an OM352. Straight 6 N/A diesel
Нет смекалки) Стравливаешь колёса в ноль и не нужны бревна, время сэкономлено!
Even at 0 psi it would not have made a difference
No worries. We can’t cut these tires they have to be street legal. Cheers from the US 🍻
How much articulation or wheel travel will your front end get with 2 inch tire to cab clearance.
The cab isn’t at final height but we’re not expecting too much. We don’t need a lot of articulation for what we do, which is snow wheeling. This won’t be a rock crawler
@@threecreeksbackcountry must be nice to have enough snow for a dedicated Unimog snow-wheeler. Clicked thumbs up on a couple of comments about the dangerous jacking procedure. Whenever you stack things taller than they are wide on top of each other it’s inherently unstable.
When turning or when bouncing, does it not hit the body?
We'll find out
No floor jack in shop this size.?
We just moved into the shop. We pretty much have the bare minimum
Sorry but those tires are too big for a 406 Unimog without raising the cab 3"-4" and moving out the turning stops all the way, so the tires don't hit the cab. Next thing is you don't have enough HP with the stock OM352 set at 94HP. You an turn up the IP pump, but still might not be enough. Left stock it would have been just fine. 42" stock tires would have given 20" of clearance at the bottom of the diff.
It’ll work just fine. Wherever there’s an issue we’ll address it and make it work. No need to be sorry 😉. There are literally thousands of vehicles running 54s and this is probably the best vehicle to throw a set of 54s underneath with the least amount of modification
@@threecreeksbackcountryHaving owned over 20 Unimogs and been rebuilding them, and selling parts for them for almost 20 years, I think I know what I am talking about, but good luck with it.
We know exactly who you are and what you do. We’re not questioning your experience. We are simply reminding you that it’s possible with a bit of work and creativity and we’re going to keep working to make it happen. This is not a purist Mog build. This is a dream that we’re seeing through. You’re welcome to follow along as we tackle these issues and challenges and make it work. We never said it was going to be easy
Just let the air out of the tires then put them on then air back up
Easier said than done
Logs are sketch. Use some railway sleepers cut down or just 2x4 in a grid. 'gettin it dun' should not include getting squished under a unimog.
We definitely don’t advise replicating this particular method ⚠️. But this isn’t our first rodeo and we’ve probably spent more time under our rigs than we have driving them. Sometimes a little risk and a pumpin’ heart is good for ya 🤠. But we fully agree that proper tools are always best
Will the doors open with those tires
Yes
Hey guess what you need a A A lift
Lifted up when you can dig a hole ..... or just a half hole!!
Lifting the 12,000 lb Unimog is way cooler than digging a bunch of holes 😎
@@threecreeksbackcountry You dig a hole and maybe you do not have to dig on the other side. But driving up and out of the hole is the biggest fun. I`m a member of the Unimog religion..... and I thing it was a shame that the older one as 404 did not came with a diesel.
taking the air out of the tires probably could've saved you a few inches.
왜 반지의 제왕이 생각나는지 ㅋㅋ^^
lol I remind you of Lord of the Rings?
Definitely do a suspension lift don't do a body lift that's hella ghetto
Typically we'd agree, but this is just a cabover truck and lifting it is much less dramatic. This truck already sits really high and a suspension lift would just make it higher. Lifting the cab 2" is probably the best option and it wouldn't affect the driveline and wouldn't raise the already high and heavy frame anymore
The whole time he was struggling like a son of a gun I was wondering how the hell does he do recoveries if he can't even figure this out of have the equipment to do this cause recovery work takes a lot of equipment an you can't jerry rig things
Not sure how mounting 54s with a bottle Jack has absolutely anything to do with rigging and off-road recovery but hey, cheers 😁
😢Why couldn't you have made apully system you could use out on the road Take my advice buy a Jack.
Settle down now we’re just mounting the tires. We still have a long way to go
I you're going to FAKE your thumbnail, why not make the guy look like he is 2 feet tall instead of 4 feet tall. 😁............. You shouldn't have a problem with turtling. I am curious about how top heavy it could be when loaded though. A lot of front fender cutting to do I bet.
I've seen trucks with 66 inch tires. And you call this big
😂 there’s always somebody out there lookin down on you. These were literally the biggest street legal tires available at the time we bought them. Plus they suit the Unimog pretty dang well considering drivetrain and ratios
That uni mog barely has the power to turn those tires.you need a bigger engine
What engine do you think is in it?
I can’t finish this video!! I’ve never seen someone ,make a tire change so Fucking complicated an painful to watch!! My god an this guy runs a tow co? LWF
😂 the term “internet troll” immediately comes to mind
Ur cancelled! LMFAO
That's lame, get a bigger Jack!!!!
We think it's lame that you think it's lame
A bit to much.
this here is the dumbest thing I have seen in a long time, KIDS STAY IN SCHOOL, and get some Common Sense. Far to much stupid here to ever make a list of WHY you shouldn't do this
Eh, that's a little soft. There's stupid and then there's calculated risk. We have enough experience to know what can be done and what can't. We also mentioned that we don't recommend using these methods. Another note, not that school is necessarily any indication of general intelligence...I earned a Bachelors degree in Wildlife and Conservation Biology and my wife earned her Doctorate. Maybe take a step back, take a deep breathe, and realize you're better than being an internet troll. Also, we find it pretty ironic that you used "dumbest" and "stupid" in the same comment and couldn't properly use 'too'
@threecreeksbackcountry intelligence is inversely proportional to common sense.
Congratulations on satisfactorily completing a course of study to be awarded those scholastic degrees. Intelligence tells us we know better than critics. Common sense tells us to take note of recommended suggestions and then refuse to take the bait offered by the critics.
Formidable vehicles in your stable. Best of luck in your endeavors.
