Got to laugh at the people who comment asking for guidance on how to pursue PhD study. A PhD is a research degree. Do research to find out how to do it. Your hand will not be held.

@@jmw1500 In my experience for PhD students you don't write a master's thesis, but the course work you'd do for the master's degree has to be completed before you're admitted to candidacy. I was given a form to fill out to get my master's when I passed my PhD qualifying exams, but the form was such a pain I never finished it, so I never got the degree. I suppose I would have done so if it ever became clear I wasn't getting my PhD.

    Good After-noon!
I am a student of Physics and also interested in studying Pure-Mathematics.....would you please guide me about the different areas of Pure-Mathematics?

Hey, I can answer your question aptly:
So there are quite a lot of areas of pure mathematics but it's always sensible to tackle the topics which are on the easier spectrum of abstractness and complexity.
Also as you said that you are a physics student so you must be familiar with some Multivariable Calculus, okay let's start:
I'd recommend you to study Abstract Algebra first along with Real Analysis. These topics are on the relatively easier side to learn by self studying. After that do Topology , then Complex Analysis.
Now you have to identify what's interesting to you like for me it was Algebraic Geometry and Category Theory. So ultimately I'd say start with basics learn how to write proofs and hang in there as it will be a bit complicated and of course abstract as well..
