It means that John went through EVERYTHING in less than a year, barely recovering from the previous movie's damages if at all. He was a man on a mission, always, and that kept him going. At the end of 4 he reached his peace, beaten his enemies, and like that all the damage he took, the pain of those months, finally reached him.
I don't think Cain is completely blind and it is this scene that convinced me. I don't think they intended to give superpowers so I think more than likely he has a VERY SMALL amount of vision that allows him to see the vague shape of the symbols and colors of the suits. It wouldn't be unreasonable to see a number of blotches and count that you have a number card or see a vague shape of a letter. You have to realize that such skilled assassins probably pay VERY close attention to detail so I think Cain probably just sees enough to differentiate from the cards with reasonable accuracy.

It does depend how his eyes were damaged but I do think it is much more likely that he still has some vision or light sensitivity considering he also wears the dark sunglasses. I realize the glasses were a design choice to make him look a certain way but if we go from a reality standpoint I don't think he would use them if he is actually fully blind.

my grandfather was such a great card counter he could keep track of everyone's hand at the table. i saw the scene, and knowing how it went it could be this or really advanced card counting.

It's impossible to Determine specific cards using counting strats lmfao. Counting cards only reveals the number of face cards and 10s vs the number of low cards remaining in the deck. This is how you know when it's profitable to bet highly or when you want to keep your bets low. But you can't use card counting to exactly know what's coming off the top of the deck, just to know what the likelihood is that it will be a face card or 10 vs a lower number
When you count cards you are tracking what has been played before. The count goes up or down depending on how many face cards and 10s have already been played. When the count gets high or low enough, the density of face cards and 10s left in the deck becomes extreme. For either high density or low density. and it's very easy to profit by playing with that knowledge. When everyone else is still assuming it's close to random, you actually know the ratios of high numbers to low numbers left. This is how you win as a card counter. You don't actually know the specific cards or their order lol

It's completley possible for him to feel the difference because of the difference in texture, the areas covered in ink would be more smooth than the rest of the card. Try it yourself and you'll see you can feel were there is ink and where there isn't. (also this only works on casino cards, plastic cards don't work)
