  • In this video we go over our top selling intercooler, but with the numbers virtually identical between the Grimmspeed TMIC and the Process West Verticooler, we decided to do a compare and contrast so you can see which one if best for your build. Which one would you go with?

    From my research the PW's are better for low speed city driving and the GS for high speed highway. The design of GS utilizes the vacuum pressure generated from the air passing through the bottom of the car so that it's more efficient expelling air passing through the IC, but it takes some speed to generate that vacuum. On the other hand the PW doesn't need that vacuum to get ambient air to cool down the IC because of its orientation, however it begins to bottle neck at higher speeds as it isn't as efficient at expelling air flow because instead of air being redirecting toward the bottom of car that generates that vacuum the airflow runs into the car's firewall not giving it the high speed efficiency you'd get with the GS IC. Neither IC is a bad way to go. Both have great build quality. I personally went with GS for what it's worth

    I just installed the Verticooler on my 2019 WRX. I highly suggest having help. I did mine myself an it was a pain. Also you can mate it with a Perrin charge pipe.

      Dude 100% lol. I always end up doing it alone, and it can be done, but having an extra set of hands make this install so much easier. Thanks!!

      @@rallysportdirect I was trying all kinds of ways an I couldn't get it into the throttle body coupler. I tried the way it's done in the instructions and that wasn't working. I put it in the coupler an had it standing straight up and somehow got it to swing into place. I got my Perrin charge pipe to also connect to it. The instructions were not updated for the 2019 underhood shroud as the plastic shroud is different then it was in the 2015-2018's.

      Good luck getting support from GS. I needed a splitter and their answer was to buy a new one although it’s out of stock. lol
      Not to mention I already have one so why should I spend another $1k so I can get a new splitter? 😂😂

      You don’t “need” a tune to run it safely but obviously you would get more power with one

      This is the correct answer. It's not required, but to get the full goodness from the TMIC, you would want to. Thanks!

    hey Rick whats your opinion on the famous question... to powder coat or not ??? does it effect performance??

    • @rallysportdirect
      @rallysportdirect  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a highly debated question. I would say if you want black or a painted one, do the paint with the thermal dispersant. However if you don't mind a raw color, just leave it alone. I prefer raw personally, so I would always just leave it lol. :)

    Wish there was a plug and play front mount intercooler that allowed cold air intakes for the 2002-2003 WRX!! Especially using the TiAL blow off valve. Any suggestions? I can’t find any. APS was the best around for those application but no longer in business.

  • @tbas8741

    Best TMIC or any IC is the one thats not Painted and is instead Bare Polished Alloy
    As its not a radiator but convective cooler and paint only adds a layer of insulation.
    & reduces efficiency by a notable %% of 3-5%

      Yeah it's pretty bad, and I even try to tone it down in post, but I can only get so far before everything gets distorted. I've been wanting to install more sound dampers in here and should probably do it sooner than later for sure. Thanks!
