    So very incredible. Every single piece of music we bought before the 1990s was made like this, with such supreme craftsmanship. Even just getting the fine lines in the correct place would do my head in, never mind having to do it all mirror-image !

      Not every piece. I had music published in the 1970s that was printed by photographing the paper copies to produce printing plates. The process is called photoengraving.

    Wow, respect to the extraordinary craft of the master engraver! From childhood, I have played from the wonderful Henle Edition scores, with no thought as to how these scores were prepared. Throughout the video, I was on the edge of my seat wondering, "What do you do if you've made a mistake?" - a question answered only in the documentary's closing moments. Thank you for making this fascinating video.

    This explains why Verlag’s scores are of such superb quality. I do not know what it’s like now, but when I was learning music in the 80s and 90s, Verlag’s scores were of superior quality to all other publishers.

      Dear Justin Siou, thank you for your kind comment. This kind of music engraving is now a historic craft. As one of the last publishers we changed to computer layout in the year 2000. This was the time, the the computer layout allowed all details, we need for our standard. So new editions after the year 2000 are not any more engraved like this.

    How can someone read the music on a metal plate? wouldn't the reflections on the shiny surface make it hard to make out the notes?

    • @henleverlag
      @henleverlag  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The readability depends from the right angle of the light on the worktable. Furthermore the pmetal plate is not perfetly polished, which makes it easier to read and work with it.

    What is the music playing on the background?

    • @henleverlag
      @henleverlag  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The music at the beginning of the film is part of the extensive royalty-free musical excerpts and sound effects that come with a number of Apple film editing software packages, specifically Final Cut Pro and Soundtrack Pro (I am not sure which, because we use both). I don't think it is available "separately" from those Apple software packages.
      The title of the track is "Nostalgic Piano Long." Apple does not provide any further information about the track. It is called "long" because there is also a "Short" version.
