OMG! I am nearly in tears! 4 yrs 3 months post stroke. Literally thousands spent on therapy, without insurance and NEVER did I have a Dr. nor therapist give this information. THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Sadly yet grateful that Google helped me more than anything. I became a student of the brain and stroke relationship. I learned more than I could imagine however if I had found you immediately after stroke, I honestly think I would be experiencing at least a 95% recovery. I've watched only 3 videos, I now see my next phase of recovery. You have explained more to me than I could possibly received from ALL other internet information and professionals combined. I will be devouring every episode and sharing with others who have experienced the same and their loved ones. So, sorry I couldn't find you at beginning. However, I can see and am encouraged that I haven't done nor have ever been shown these valuable and simple exercises. Most importantly I understand the specific stetching +++ bracing+++ benefits and how to add them to my routine.

#stroke arm. I haven't found your links to the previous videos so could you please post the links again or do another series? I'm 5 years out from a massive right brain stroke. I used to dance flamenco and I would ideally like to get back to it, but my right hand is starting to get arthritis so I need to get my left hand working for doing everything before my right hand loses it's ability to fuction. I still walk with a cane, but my left leg is getting stronger and I'm starting to have stronger dorsiflexion and hamstrings. Thank you for all your videos. They've been helpful when my physical or occupational therapy insurance runs out from time to time

I have brain injury from brain radiation and when radiation necrosis became severe, I lost ability to walk because of drop foot and sat in chair or wheelchair for a few weeks and so I developed frozen shoulder from just letting it hang. (No subluxation) and I cannot shrug that shoulder. Do you think that is from the adhesions and if I can stretch my shoulder and get shoulder released then I’ll be able to shrug it again or no?

8 years since a partial hemisperectomy & my involved wrist/hand offers more resistance when the hand is all splayed out, versus when it's holding something like a flexbar or dowel. I assume everybody recovers differently & what works for one won't necessarily work for everybody.

    Hi Dr. Tobias.
I had a stroke early 2019, January 11th to be exact. I was released from the hospital the first or second week of March. I did month of home therapy through VNA april in to May and I saw a therapist once a week for about 4 weeks.
I feel OK for the most but my right arm moves a bit but my fingers won't extend, they will close but not tightly.
Are there any finger exercises you can recommend to assist in extending the fingers?

It is most likely spasticity. Some people the arm flexes up and some people might have extensor spasticity where the arm extended involuntarily. I speak mostly of flexor (the arm flexes up involuntarily) because that is the more common.

My hand is clenched shut, but by wrist bends so my fist is pointing upwards, and not in towards my body. I did have 2 surgeries. One to lengthen the tendons, and one to cut the tendons.
I had my stroke almost 11 years ago. I did receive Botox, but was off of it for about a year due to moving and having to find a new Dr to do them.
My hand surgeon and Botox Dr decided that Botox would no longer be beneficial.
I have not had Botox for 2 years. I had a Baclofen pump put in October of 2020. It has helped some. I did physical therapy for 5 weeks to help with tight muscles.
    I restarted Botox today…5/25/2021.
I guess my question is…is it normal for my wrist to be in this position ?

Sharmen Williams Thanks for watching. That is an excellent question and I get a lot of comments asking about that. If you have a hand that has a tendency to go into a fist, you really wanna work on the stuff I show in these videos. Learning how to get their hand to relax before you can really get good quality movement in the muscles that open the hand. So hopefully you will focus on those videos. I do plan to do some more videos on the hand though so stay tuned. :-)
