Dear audiences, I am volunteer firefighter in a small town in The Czech republic and I have to say, The Czech Fire and rescue brigade members have only 2 minutes for response to an alarm! I am not able to imagine, such situation could occured! I am simply shocked, that is possible in The USA! Love and respect from Czech republic to Washington D.C. ❤❤

Thank God for the Secret Service swift action and that the driver is okay.

What are they supposed to do? The engine is blocked in because the idiot parked it 10ft from the bay door. Even if the engine has a bumper pre-connect line, they're unable to connect to the fire hydrant with him that close. And they probably don't have enough room to stretch the line without it kinking. Not to mention the fact that it would probably flood the fire station with water.

Why are you blaming the firefighters and not whoever designed the building there are speakers throughout all the fire house that ring when the doorbell is pressed just banging on the door is not a guarantee they will hear you and of course nobody is going to know that with out signs being posted blame the city of DC for not being competent enough for not putting signage up

Terrible reporting throwing your fire department under the bus. Obviously if the cop had it knocked with a small extinguisher, they didn't need an engine. Plus who in their right mind drives their car, while on fire, to the firehouse. The safest thing would have been for the driver to stop, get out, and call 911. Great job making the firemen the bad guys though.

Lovely. What if that engine wasn’t there? Now the entire firehouse is blocked and out of service because these burned up pick up truck is there. Not the brightest move by this driver.

Nothing for nothing, but in any major city, especially the way things are going today, you can't count on someone pounding on the door as someone looking for help half the time. Sometimes it could just be a raging lunatic who's up to no good and is going to put someone's life at risk.

No they were in the back of the fire station and couldn’t hear or see what was going on in the front of the station the person didn’t right the door bell(fire houses have speakers all throughout the station that wings with someone presses the doorbell) just banging on the door won’t guarantee they heard someone at the door but all I can think of is there should at least be a sign idk why the news is trying to blame the firefighters

I hope they put a sign up in front of the firehouse to make public aware that the doorbell is on the side of the firehouse.

"Slow to respond" is such a bullshit sensationalized way to frame this story. The firefighters aren't sitting in the windows waiting for a burning truck to pull up. They're inside waiting for a call to come over the speakers. Quick thinking by the cops to get the extinguisher, but someone should've known to ring the obvious doorbell. Also, where did the driver go? He just blocks the bay doors and flees the scene? Firefighters work incredibly hard to keep their towns and cities safe, many not even getting paid. Trying to throw them under the bus for this is absolute bullshit. It's easy to criticize from the comfort of a TV studio. If their house was on fire, these anchors would be so happy when the FD responds that they'd blow the first firefighter on scene. Clowns.

UNbelievable. I'm hoping most fire stations are efficient, obviously this one WASN'T.....to place a "doorbell" on the side of the building with NO SIGNS about it is just pathetic.
