I’ve had an EVH Wolfgang Special Stealth for a year or so. Great guitar. The more I play it, the more I appreciate the design details. Best feeling guitar neck of any I own. One big thing that is not obvious is the flexibility of the pickups and controls. One can really squeeze lots of tones out of this guitar with just the knobs.
Same here. This is not only a shred-metal-machine but is very versatile for all types of music. Blues, jazz, pop, punk and anything you can imagine. I bought one of these and liked it so much I sold a PRS and bought a EVH Signature model last summer. Great guitar! They do feel different than the US or older MIJ/MIC Specials with the SS vintage frets but jumbo w/o SS works well on the shape IMHO. The trem is a little different as well, same FR-1000 but they take the tension bar off the low E tuner on the Floyd Rose on the more expensive models which makes the D-Tuna work a little easier but it works great once they are setup. The pickups are great for rock IMHO, no need to swap them as they clean up quite well. - Gratz on 500K Subs as well!

They are a great guitar. I've only really spent time with the Wolfgang standard - but it is so amazingly stable and I love the neck on it. I have a Wolfie Special in charcoal quilt. Really like the neck even though I prefer a fatter neck. But that finish on the neck or lack of finish...the neck the neck the neck. Did I mention the neck?
The pickup selector switch is actually backward in the EVH guitars. This was done intentionally, so when Eddie was tapping and accidentally hit the switch, it would go to the bridge pickup. I have a 5150 and Wolfgang special stealth. They're both incredible guitars, but the overall nod goes to my 5150.

I recently got one in purple burst with gold hardware. Very happy with it. Super easy fast neck. Pinch harmonics anywhere with ease. Legato like Robert said. Very fun axe to rock on
The low friction volume pot is Eddie spec’d for volume swells. I didn’t like either as i kept knocking it. I just put a rubber strap lock thingie underneath and now its a high friction volume pot.
I own a lefty USA Wolfgang in cream. It really feels like a Gibson made by Fender, which makes it my favourite Fender. The Volume knob is zero resistance so you can do fast swells, but the tone is stiffer so it stays where you put it.
Those are old school radio/test equipment knobs. As a tube amp repair/builder/vintage radio restoration guy I assure you. Actually some pedals use a mini version of those type knobs.

I bought this exact model a year ago. The first guitar I got in over 20 years. What an amazing instrument. Looks great, sounds great, and most importantly feels great! Especially that neck, man! I wanted it because I already have a Musicman EVH. I gotta say, the Wolfgang obviously doesn’t beat the original Musicman, but to me no guitar does. Nonetheless the Wolfgang is an absolutely awesome guitar. It’s so much fun to play this thing. I agree with you about the knobs, though. They‘re ugly a.f. and they kind of ruin the overall aesthetics. However, what I really love about them, is how easy going the volume knob is vs. the tone knob which has significantly more friction. Makes a lot of sense, and I‘ve never seen this on a guitar before. Another one of Ed‘s cool little ideas, that actually make a big difference. Thanks for covering this one!
I have this exact guitar and it truly is a great value for the bucks. There is something about the necks on these that just exudes "quality". Although it is a 25.5" scale, the neck width is slightly narrower than most other necks (from side to side, not front to back), and, in my opinion, just adds to the already great playability. The pickups are SO toneful, and clean up perfectly when rolling back the volume. (I've actually been thinking of getting a set of these pickups and installing them in a Les Paul.) Just a well thought out design all-around. Fender-Mexico is making some FINE guitars these days! I love it so much that I also had to get the purple burst one and, for some reason, it sounds even better than this one. They are set up exactly the same and are easy-playing instruments. These are "keeper" guitars, for sure! On my Solarburst, I do have an unusual high-pitched ringing sound coming from the D-string, even unplugged. But I am blaming it on a bad string because it was not noticeable before I changed them last time. Not sure what can cause this on a guitar with a Floyd locking nut where the string cannot move in the nut slot, but it's driving me crazy!!!
Absolutely love the Wolfgangs. Couple years ago the standard was on sale and I decided to part ways with my first “real” guitar (Epi Les Paul) for it and couldn’t be happier. Got the cheapest finish and immediately sanded it off to paint the black and white stripes, might add red someday. But damn that guitar is a workhorse and really can cover all the bases. Love the special edition, that finish, the binding, the sound, just everything about it is beautiful!
Thank you for playing her clean. So many YT demos of the Wolfgang just go right into the Unchained riff/ Eruption stuff, as if this guitar was designed for VH cover bands. It was not.

I don't have any experience with them and just gave up and put a block in, but when I did have it working when I bought it and it was solid as a rock and would stay in tune for weeks at a time. It's definitely my solid go to for now!
Yes, the best part about Wolfgang's is the NECK.. I have a 2000 Peavey Standard.. BEST neck with the asymmetric profile EVER.. and the 1 5/8 inch old school fender nut size is just right.. I was in a Guitar Center about a decade ago and they were just starting to carry EVH guitars. They had a few on the wall (the lower end Standards) and the entire staff were ripping them as ugly pieces of sh*t. I plugged one in and loved it. The Wolfgang pickups are NUTS and I'm not even a big Eddie fan. They're worth the price for the pickups alone as far as I'm concerned.
@RobertBakerGuitar Evh Put The "MXR Knobs." On Because Eddie Found It Alot Quicker To Roll On & Off ,Also To Give a Nod To MXR Because Ed Loved Their Effect Pedals. 😉👍

I agree that the knobs look a bit off on a model like this, but it's not an eyesore, and it's easy to change. Not that there's a big chance. But I really hope I win. ☺
The knobs are there because Ed initially had a Strat style one on his 5150 but it fell off and he swapped it out for one off, I think, an MXR Micro Amp that he didn't much care for and loved the way it felt!
Great video! Thank you so much for engaging with your community through giveaways, it's really cool and you don't know how much we all appreciate you!!
The MXR knobs are because Eddie used the volume knob for pretty aggressive swells on songs like Cathedral and needed a firm grip. They were used for function, not looks.
Loved my MiM Wolfgang Special Ivory/Ebony. Wish I never got rid of it. I have many more expensive guitars but this one played as well as my Majesty, Prestige, or USA Charvels, Gibsons, and Fenders
I bought one of those Wolfgang Striped Series last year just for collection. Played it a little bit, and since then I want to get one I can play without worry. They are re-releasing the Striped Series this year. I really like the Silverburst for 2024 too. These are a near perfect guitar. Thought I was a Strat player until I played a Wolfgang. Only downside is, can't easily swap pickups. Just seems weird Eddie was all about customizing guitars but the Wolfgangs are a hassle to put other pickups in from everything I read.
These guitars are sick. Absolutely love my EVH Wolfgang Special. I've owned all of them throughout my 45 years of playing guitar and this model is something special. These guitars feel solid and ooze quality. The tone is to die for. The basswood is incredibly resonant. Peace.
Did you notice any sharp fret edges? I ordered one from Sweetwater and had to send it back for warranty because the fret sprout was horrible. This was after keeping it in a 50% humidity room for a few days as well. Other than that it is a great guitar.
Def try one; b/c IMHO the neck at the 1st Fret is a noticeable "smidge" narrower than a traditional Strat neck, and my Fat Fingers found this a bit too small and uncomfortable for open chord stuff. They are built like a tank and sound great.
I have a standard in chlorine burst, and love it! The necks on these are amazing! That one there wasn't released in that color until after I bought mine. I would've waited had I known. So thank you to you and Sweetwater for this opportunity. 😎
I've had the opportunity to play one of these and while I didn't love the looks the first time it was just sooooo comfortable, and I ended up liking the looks after a while hahah
I sold my Specials and bought EVH Standards - same everything but with comfort cuts. Awesome guitars, SO comfortable, rock solid \m/. If the EVH and a PRS both fell down a flight of stairs, the EVH would come back and finish the set…
Very nice playing and tone. Question what's your thoughts on the EVH Wolfgang Special, compared to the EVH Striped Series, or maybe EVH 5150 Series Standard? I generally prefer maple for the fingerboard.
I love my Wolfgang, Ed really put alot of thought into how it was made so it can be so unbelievably comfortable in any playing position without looking soulless like a headless guitar
Hey Robert, another great vid! I’ve been following ur channel for years, always appreciated ur content and you taught me so much when i was just starting out so I wanted to say thanks for that. Like you, EVH is also my go to favorite player so this giveaway ur having for one of his guitars is real exciting! Keep up the good work 👍
I've had an EVH Wolfgang Stealth since about the time they were launched around 2010/2011. With about 35 guitars, my go to is this guitar because of the neck, and overall sound. These are great guitars, that I will never sell.
Had one for a few years and yes they take some adjustment due to size and the neck is reasonably fat compared to others BUT... It's a hell of a guitar. Very easy to play ergonomically, and you can tell that thought has been put into every aspect of it. Sounds wonderful....
Great sound! I’ve been curious about this guitar for years. I have been chasing his sound and have two Kramer’s from the 80s that I bought new hoping to find it. He was an innovator and this guitar shows it.
I love my EVH Wolfgang Special. So comfortable to play and sounds great. Also recently bought an EVH 5150 in Purple Daze. Very different feel but still a great instrument.
I’ve had my wolfie since 2018- love that thing. However, i do feel it’s a one trick pony. I prefer for writing, my Schecter Devil, or my Hardtail HSS strat.
I have a couple Peavey Wolfgangs. Great guitars. I demoed a couple of the lower end EVH Wolfgangs and the fit and finish was bad. The fret ends, for example, were very sharp and unfiled. Hopefully the higher end EVH line is better. FYI the Van Hagar era ended in 1996 when Eddie was still with Music Man.
EVH Wolfgang’s are incredible!🔥 I love them. I own two Wolfgang Standards and three Wolfgang Specials. I really like all EVH gear! I will continue to purchase more EVH gear in the future!

Peace.
I have a while standard and satin black stealth special. World of difference regarding build quality and sound. Love the special....
Did you notice any sharp fret edges? I ordered one from Sweetwater and had to send it back for warranty because the fret sprout was horrible. This was after keeping it in a 50% humidity room for a few days as well.
Other than that it is a great guitar.
I've had a Peavey and one of the original Japan made specials. Both great. Sold them for other things, but could ALWAYS use another!
Def try one; b/c IMHO the neck at the 1st Fret is a noticeable "smidge" narrower than a traditional Strat neck, and my Fat Fingers found this a bit too small and uncomfortable for open chord stuff. They are built like a tank and sound great.
I’ve got a stealth, but I also want one with a maple fb, because I don’t have a guitar with a maple board. This one is gorgeous.
Greetings sir. I think the knobs are because they are faceted and easier to grab than regular round knobs.
I bought one of the first Japanese run Wolfgang stealth HT back in 2012. Amazing guitar.
Very nice playing and tone. Question what's your thoughts on the EVH Wolfgang Special, compared to the EVH Striped Series, or maybe EVH 5150 Series Standard? I generally prefer maple for the fingerboard.
That's a fine guitar there man! Wouldn't mind driving that one
Im constantly having to readjust the volume also. My pinky hits it and lowers the volume. Stiffer pot fixed that up 🤟
I love my Wolfgang, Ed really put alot of thought into how it was made so it can be so unbelievably comfortable in any playing position without looking soulless like a headless guitar
Congratulations on your 500,000 subscriber Milestone!
Thanks!
Great sound! I’ve been curious about this guitar for years. I have been chasing his sound and have two Kramer’s from the 80s that I bought new hoping to find it. He was an innovator and this guitar shows it.
I had the opportunity to check on of these and it was awesome
Robert that guitar just crushes! Yeah I definitely dig it! I haven't played one of those either. I've been thinking about checking one out recently.
Ive always thought the Wolfgang looks odd, but that flame maple top makes it look kinda cool. I like the headstock design
Amazing guitar. I have an polar white one that was bought by my family for my wedding and I have a standard . Luv them both.
Awesome guitar! How do I win one!!!!!!
Yup, wish I would of bought one of those instead of my greeny.
I have a striped series evh, neck is fantastic.
Your demo playing really highlights the qualities of the guitar. Makes it look and sound great.
The relatively clean samples sounded much better than I expected, very bluesy. Love the look of this one. Thanks for the demo, Robert!
Always loved those and now they are made in many cases alongside my favorites Jackson/Charvel.
Great sounding guitar and looking cool too. There is the link for the compitation? Thanks for great content Robert. ❤kh
I had the chance to try one recently and it blew me away!!! great guitar to play, the best neck and fantastic pickups
The knobs are like MXR effect pedal knobs. The knob on the Kramer 5150 was one of those.
Even before that, those knobs were on Fender Jazz Basses since the start
@@leesbassment6393 I didn’t know that!
The knobs on the Wolfgang are the same as you’ll find on MXR pedals.
always been super interested in these, but never seen one at a guitar store when i’m at lol. one day i’ll try one out
I happened upon a used MIM Special a few years back for cheap; it shot up to my #1 right away. It’s just a sweetheart of a guitar.
These are super cool!
Never played one myself, but they seem absolutely killer!
They look and sound great. The only 2 things I don't like is the Floyd is not floating / recessed and the neck is a little too thick for me
If I'm not mistaken Eddie never used a floating tremolo his tremolo was always decked
I'm basically watching this and listening through my phone speaker. It sounds amazing! What did you do? Can you give the signal chain?
Noice! Just by the looks that’s a total winner!! Good luck people!
EVH Wolfgang’s are incredible!🔥 I love them. I own two Wolfgang Standards and three Wolfgang Specials. I really like all EVH gear! I will continue to purchase more EVH gear in the future!
Is it worth spending the extra for the Special?
@@kylehall9823
I personally think so. But, I like both the standard and special. Can’t go wrong with either as far as I’m concerned.
@@garywebb5058 nice one. I really want a Wolfgang but the need for finishes more to my taste is making me want a special haha
@garywebb5058 I have both. The Special is a bit superior in build quality. Pups seem hotter. It's a beast.
@@mojodojo5533 Agree!
Have you ever considered doing a course on your country licks? You always play some killer stuff!
Dude I just got my Wolfgang purple burst with gold hardware and I freaking love it!!!!! Eddie knew what he was doing creating these
