  • Hi everyone! Welcome back to our channel. Its been a rough week. Sorry if I've been so MIA. But if you couldn't tell from the video, inpatient medicine is rough. 80 hour work week! Literally wake up, pump, work, go home, sleep, and wake up to do it all again. Understatement when I say I am tired.
    For those who are in internal medicine, is your inpatient service this demanding?
    It probably doesn't help that I have Wyatt who love to sleep on his own schedule ... most of the time he stays up later than me! I'm on that old lady life style.

    Did you like internal med? I have insane respect for everyone who does what you do/just did! 80 hour work weeks while being expected to stay on top of everyone’s care? Oh. And be a mom and wife?? My brain hurts thinking about it! Do you feel that you are able to provide safe care with those hours? Many residents I’ve talked with feel that it’s a horrible learning system. I know I learn so much more when I’m not pushed to my limit emotionally and physically. Just curious for your input! I know personally, if I put in a 60 hour work week I’m starting to not be my best self and I’m sure my patient care suffers because of it. Thanks as always for the great content!!

      I think that it is safe. There is always someone double checking your work. I think I give so much when I get home I can get short tempered. I’m lucky stan is so patient with me.

      It's inhuman the path to becoming a doctor. The process begins in med school when they isolate the student and cubicalize him/her to study for insane amounts of hours per day. In a health system where human interactions with the patient should be paramount, med school does its best to destroy that.

    I recently just had my baby girl and it turned into an emergency c-section, because of that I was in the hospital for 4 days, and man I realized how much hard work the nurses and doctors really put in to ensure that things go well and that the patient, and in this case I was the patient, is good. Even though I probably won’t ever be a patient of yours I just want to say thank you to people like you Jenny who work their butts off to help people and make a difference. Props to you! Especially how you handle everything with a baby, it’s definitely motivating and inspiring. ❤️

      it is a crime to wake up patients before seven in the morning. This is only done for the convenience of the staff. Patients should be able to sleep until at least eight o'clock. The only exception may be the day on which they have surgery. Unfortunately, in hospitals, patients who sleep deeply are woken up by force, because night shift nurses want to do their morning work as soon as possible. After that, doctors want to see the patients as soon as possible, so that in the early afternoon they can go to their private doctor's offices and other workplaces. This is the case in Poland.

      Side note: Love your vlogs so much and helps us to understand what all goes behind the scenes, especially in the hospitals. The more I understand and can get a glimpse of what nurses and doctors go through, the more understanding I am with long waits sometimes at doctors appointments or hospital visits. It’s hard though when your family is sometimes impatient, but it’s understandable 🙈.

    • @samandscott07
      @samandscott07 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jenny Le Criminals to me are fascinating, and not just the psychotic ones, but the reasons why they do what they do whether it be stealing food for their families or committing serious offences, I'm really interested in why they do it. So thats basically why i got into it, i started my degree before i had my first daughter, but took time off once my husband went away for his job and focused on being a mum. Then we moved 3 times around Australia for my husbands job, then had another daughter and now in finally being able to finish what i started. Super long response sorry!!

    My husband did his residency at the OU program and for inpatient they would see 10-15 depending on the census. There was no cut off at the time. Babies were also seen. First year interns might of seen less. Lawton only has 2 major hospitals. 12 residents in his program. They also saw nursing home patients.

    I have another MD program near me I plan to apply to as well but applying to only those two my chances are higher with the DO program. What are the chances to go to medical school here and residency? I know I seem dumb to be so peculiar. I’m considering PA if not, would that be my best bet? Thanks!

  • @shriszz
    @shriszz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Jenny! I have a question. So I know I want to go to med school. But some colleges have pre med as a major and some don’t. So I’m confused if they don’t pre med as a major what major should I take. I want to go for cardio surgeon. And also, in med school is just classes right, it’s not internship and residency. The internship and residency is after 4 years of med school? And what major do you take in med school ?

    • @torikelly5156
      @torikelly5156 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shriszz Hey! You don’t have to do a pre med major, and a lot of schools actually won’t have that as an option, but rather as a track you should follow. This is because, in order to get into med school, you have to take certain prerequisite courses in undergrad. However, you can actually major in whatever you like as long as you include the prerequisite courses in your course load! As for med school, typically the first two years are classroom based, but after that you’ll most likely have two more years of some classroom based learning and clinical experience mixed in. Internship and residency are completed after four years of med school. Good luck with everything!

    Hi! Im a pharmacy student and I just had a quick financial question. I was wondering if you took out extra loans to prepare for residency? I know you can put off paying on your loans if you’re a resident but In terms of other expenses how did you budget affording them since residents to make a ton?

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I took out a physician’s loan to buy a house. Financially, mortgage was cheaper than rent. And I applied for a loan repayment program that factors in your income. So during residency I don’t pay as much just because I’m not making much money.

    Being a doctor isn't the only profession with those kind of hours and other professions have more hours a week, 90+ even 100 hours a week in other professions.

      I’ve read all your comments. You’ve said many of times that people who work construction work grueling hours with little appreciation. And I agree. I’m just here telling my story and sharing my experience.
      You are more than welcome to share your own experience. I just don’t appreciate the negativity here on my channel.

      danielle danielle I'm not though Im just pointing it out I actually like her if you watch her videos at all you'll know I've commented positive things before. Thanks?

      @daisydelatorre3501 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sculpin I think you need to realize that the tone of your comment does not convey that you like her. Rather, your comment connotes a negative emotion and other implications. It seems that you are implying that she thinks highly of herself because she works 80 hours. That it’s something she wants to show off.
      She’s is literally, truthfully, giving us details and an account of her life. She is not trying to put herself out there as this superwoman, who thinks she is superior to others.
      So you’re comment “want a metal (which is actually spelled medal) or something? Welcome to the real world” Is out of place.

    • @daisydelatorre3501
      @daisydelatorre3501 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are ways of pointing out things, ways of saying things.
      And, again this whole video is about her...not other professions...in no way is she making comparisons to other professions in which she is saying she works more hours than others.

    • @Nn95129
      @Nn95129 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sculpin yeah I think everyone has seen all your creepy/negative comments on all her videos. For example asking to buy diapers for her baby? Not weird at all.
