      I have read the comic, that one page included, maybe 10 times, seen the pilot 5 times, and STILL have hardly an idea about what Rocky is talking about. I'm assuming... the Mississippi River is old and has seen technology change over the centuries and Rocky's just lamenting about it.

    I don't like how people keep comparing lackadaisy to vivziepop's works. As someone who has followed the comics for a while, I know they're really nothing alike, Lackadaisy speaks of a more grounded story, with mistery and focus on character depth. While it has its comedic moments, the overall picture is about an in-depth exploration of a historic time period.
    Both being indie animations and having quirky characters doesn't make them the same, and it's important to place that distinction in.

    • @TheLawlessRogue
      @TheLawlessRogue ปีที่แล้ว +31

      mhm, while I definitely do agree with your opinion I also would like to comment that it’s important for indie creators/communities to get together and hold each other up. As individual creators, both Vivienne and Tracy respect each other and important cast members of each grouping are a part of each other’s communities. Hell even some VAs of Lackadaisy have appeared in Hunniepop streams as guests.
      It’s more than just their individual stories, and the comparisons are made in celebration that independent animation is finally making rounds and is growing a foothold in the online community.

      @@superplaylists1616 in my opinion, i like to see lackadaisy as a Helluva 2.0, but its not in the way you are thinking, let me explain
      I am not comparing the two animations, its because Helluva had the first foot in "Badass Indie animations with Pilot" and by stating that LackADaisy is a "short of Helluva 2" i am not saying that it is a copy or less of a masterpiece, by the opposite, i consider Helluva and LackADaisy in the same level of quality, and how they both have potentials in the animation world, Helluva has grown into something very known over the years, and i hope LackADaisy gets the same recognition by the community, it has potential, i particularly love ElectroSwing and the 20s style, this made me know the series, Ironically. Thinks it's meant as a compliment for the most part. Both are fan of both works. And not to mention both using similar people for both, we hear Michael Kovach once again who was Angel Dust in Hazbin Hotel. Ashley Nicholas is an animator for both. The projection are independent, creative, loveable story, setting and characters we love to see more of.
      Yes different setting and tone. But they have the key factors that make all of them great.
      Sure they very on where do they lean more into as far as the world building, character arcs, the comedy in-between, and the lore.
      None the less we love every bit of all of these series. From views like us the last grew up loving animation and story telling.

Like, the animation prowess is on par with the Rise of the TMNT movie animators, while the personality and voice acting are on par with the Helluva Boss cast. The plot is a fresh and quirky oddball take on a 1920s America, prohibition era gang story. We have been so spoiled by animators! Especially indie animators, who are really bringing it!

    People who have read the comics will recognize the dynamics right away. Rocky has the biggest crush on Mitzi but it's more like an obsessive mom complex mixed together. She's older than him and he fishes for approval from her like a little kid.
    Zib and Mitzy used to be a thing before she married Atlas and inherited Lackadaisy. Mitzy has a crush (but also some gold-digging tendencies) towards Wick. Everyone in this crew is looking for meaning, security and validation or trying to keep their dream alive somehow. That's why you can sense the tension between Zib and Wick, Rocky is also intensely jealous of Wick; Rocky relished destroying Wick's rock quarry because he is competing for Mitzi's attention as someone who can supply her alcohol for the speakeasy. Geez Mitzy has had like 4 guys after her.

    Just to clear up a couple things, Atlas is the dead founder of Lackadaisy and husband to Miss M. Also, the gun Serafine was wielding wasn't a Tommy, but a BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle), the Tommy's big brother in WW2. It's an assault rifle that was known for being obnoxiously heavy for the role it ended up filling. This is because it was meant to be easily carried between positions, but fired prone, to compete with mounted machine guns that lacked the mobility. Instead, you had a lot of soldiers trying to fire it from the hip or the shoulder like modern assault rifles, which made it very unwieldy compared to something like the Sturmgewehr, the German assault rifle it was frequently pitted against.

    • @richardreiben2579
      @richardreiben2579 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not really an assault rifle. It’s more of an LMG if anything. Meant to be a support weapon in a squad.

    • @andrewweitzman4006
      @andrewweitzman4006 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, firing from the hip is precisely what it was designed for. At least, the Great War version that Serafine's "Boudreaux" was based on. The idea was that the gun would be fired from the hip in semi-automatic at a rate of one round per footstep while on the assault. Once the trench was neared, full-auto would be used in bursts to clear the trench. The BAR was not quite a dedicated LMG like the Lewis or the Chauchat in conception.
      The BAR was later turned in a rather poor LMG after WWI with the addition of a bipod and other stuff. It really was not suited for that role compared to other designs like the French Chatellereault and the British Bren. Soldiers and Marines often stripped off the extras to return it to its lighter Great War configuration.
      You actually see Serafine do walking fire during the quarry scene.

After he’d mysteriously died, supposedly in a drive by shooting, the Lackadaisy speakeasy went to the now widowed Mitszi May. Ever since his death, Lackadaisy has fallen on hard times. Fun fact, the place at around 22:09 is called a speakeasy, also known as a secret alcohol bar, commonly known to be a safe place for drinkers in the years of prohibition in 1919-1933 (and because of the prohibition, the Roaring ‘20s and Dirty ‘30s was a time of where the most alcohol was consumed)

    Oh, you are so right about needing a movie now. I love this pilot. I've seen other reviewers, but you guys caught more of what's going on. "Why didn't he take the shot?" was a good point. I enjoyed watching you enjoy this. And, yeah, I do believe they was Cajuns having fun with the chase. I think my favorite part is Rocky on the excavator waxing maniacally poetic with dynamite punctuations. You also caught on that it was Mr Sable's rock quarry. I'm guessing that's why Rocky directed her to take a left. He knew the quarry was there, and what to look for. It gave him the advantage of home turf. I didn't catch all that on the first time round. You guys are quick studies. Thanks for sharing this.

    Fun fact: gangsters, and rum runners, like the trio we see in Lackadaisy, would soup up their cars with machinery and custom adjustments, to drive much faster than possible for smuggling alcohol. So drag racing most likely did come from the 20s and 30s. In some ways, those two decades/eras, was a more modern version of the Wild West.

  • @launcesmechanist9578
    @launcesmechanist9578 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You're correct about NASCAR. It basically started as a bunch of moonshiners seeing who had the fastest car. It then became a race against each other and after Prohibition ended, they just kept the races going.
    Also, interesting bit: the weapon the female cat had was a sawn off M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle. A light machine gun/assault rifle with a 20 round magazine. This type of weapon was used by the infamous Clyde Barrow of Bonnie & Clyde. The Thompson SMG was the 1928version with a 100 round drum more commonly known as the 'Chicago Typewriter'. But yeah, this is epic and deserves an entire series!

    • @launcesmechanist9578
