For the first time I have seen foreign travellers exploring Kolkata at dawn. Its mesmerizing... Reminds me when I used to take a morning walk from my house to ghat at 5 am... Many old memories come to live when I watch these videos... Thanks again for exploring the beloved city and gaining new experiences and sharing them with us... Much appreciated.
Kolkata, the former capital of India, is not just a city-it’s a timeless emotion, a living canvas of history, culture, and resilience. From the mighty Howrah Bridge, standing as a symbol of strength and connection, to the shimmering lights of Park Street that echo the elegance of a bygone era, Kolkata is a city that feels alive in every corner. The Ganga flows with quiet dignity, carrying the stories of generations, while the bustling markets of New Market, Gariahat, and Mullick Ghat brim with life, color, and unyielding spirit. Yet, beneath its charm and beauty lies a city grappling with challenges. Years of corruption and misgovernance have slowed its development, leaving its people to struggle against crumbling infrastructure and unfulfilled promises. But Kolkata’s true essence lies in its people-their resilience, their creativity, and their hope. No matter the hardships, they persevere, keeping the city alive with their undying love and determination. Kolkata was, is, and will always be the most beautiful city in India. Its soul lies in its rich heritage, the iconic landmarks, the timeless markets, the gentle flow of the Ganga, and the warmth of its people who refuse to let its light fade. Let’s dream of a Kolkata that rises again to its full glory-a city that honors its past while embracing the promise of a brighter future. What’s your favorite memory of Kolkata? Let’s celebrate this magical city, a place that lives in our hearts forever.
Can't believe they have fenced and ticketing entrance to Victoria Memorial. We went there during winter vacations and then went on to the maidan to eat chaat and phuchkas. to eat was always free, very well maintained. No fences. My husband and I used to meet there every morning before we got married. It was a great gathering place for all to enjoy nature in the centre of the city. It was always beautifully maintained. Cant believe u did not go to see (I think) the biggest and oldest Banyan tree in the world in the botanical gardens.

Loved it.Thanks. Just an idea for you. If you are from USA you may know Vivekananda, the Indian Monk who shook America in 1890s. He introduced Vedanta in the West. He was born in Kolkata and established Ramakrishna Mission in Belur near Kolkata, beside river Ganges. You can explore his birth place and Ramakrishna Math if you are interested in spirituality. By the way, Vedanta is no religion, its for all.
This is the best time to visit Kolkata. You can also travel to Shantiniketan, the abode of peace, the University of Nobel Laureate Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. It takes 3 hours by train to reach Shantiniketan. You will love the serenity of nature there.
TH-cam is so strange. Haven’t been seeing your videos pop up. Probably why I saw a dip in my views also as a little guy. Now I am catching up with you. Kolkata looks so busy hahah people everywhere. Early morning tours would be magical. It’s such a special thing to see a city wake up! Wow the flowers. Dang that cart is huge.hays is getting to more curiosity. Pour pups. The hotel restaurant looks perfect. Great day guys!
Really nice to see Steph & Pete with ur little boy exploring Kolkata like none other. Also lovely see you smile despite the usual challenges this city throws at you & your sensibilities (it does to us!) as expats. You're very cool. All the best & take care
That is so true. I love how they downplay all the terrible things about our city and choose to share the positive things. They let their little boy sit on the streets of a market and play with a cat! He will grow up to an amazingly open minded human being.
I have been living outside of India for many years now, but Kolkata is and always will be home. Your videos give me such nostalgic euphoria, that for a short while I almost don't miss home.
This city is in a dire need to be cleaned up. 10 years ago this city was way cleaner. I can tell cause i have been living here for 30 years. It's dirty as hell nowadays. Imagine all those sites but just cleaner

Thank you guys! You did such a great job presenting my birth city. I'm visiting Kolkata right now too so I was hoping I would run into you guys! All the best!
Just returned back to London from my Kolkata trip. This city is a jem. I spent my student life in Kolkata. Hope you managed to visit College Street book market.
India means lots of food , rich culture and definitely very good hearted people. Where ever you go in India, it's very common. But Kolkat is a very joyous place . Most of people lives very simple life but in very higher wisdom and knowledgeable life . We find everything and everywhere so much joy , peace and happiness 😊
Since you are exploring Calcutta in such details, I'd suggest to pay a visit to Bow Barracks. Its a charming corner of the town where Anglo-Indians have been living for generations. It is especially nice during Christmas. You can buy home made wine and pound cakes. Probably not the best cake or wine objectively, but just for the experience, not a bad idea. If you want to make a day out of it, College Street is not too far either. It is a huge book market and also the home of some of the old schools and colleges established in early 1800's.
It is great to see a rare human quality in Pete, possessing EQ. Please treasure and keep that quality of yours, and pass it on. Thank you for the video.
Kolkata thrives on emotion. It makes you happy, it makes you cry, and it makes you feel the warmth of human connectivity like nothing before. It's the cultural capital and also an economic powerhouse. Kolkata makes you fall in love with her and never lets you leave. There is an early morning in Kolkata, there is a day in Kolkata, and there is this afternoon in Kolkata. There is the beautiful Night Kolkata, and there is the ever-present, ever-graceful Kolkata of Late Night, and every Kolkata is different. Every nook & corner of this city is filled with history. Offcourse We can visit every city over the world but the warmth of Kolkata is unique.
