    Belizeans have migrated to Los Angeles in significant numbers since the 1960s and they settled in South Los Angeles, along the Western, Normandie, and Vermont corridors. By the 1980s, Belizeans began joining traditional Black American street gangs in South LA, often times assimilating to Black culture where there Belizean background went undetected as they had the ability to speak American English and their own creole dialect with family.
    Today, many of South LA's street gangs on the westside are predominately Belizean. This includes nearly every gang from Venice to Florence between Vermont and Crenshaw. The Fruit Town Brims, Rollin 30s Crips, 52 Hoover Gangsters, Trouble Gangster Crips, Van Ness Gangsters, Rollin 20s Bloods, Rollin 40s Crips and the Black P Stones from the City and Jungle have large Belizean membership.
    Today, Belizean gang members like Big Stretch are proud to claim their culture and heritage.

    Poverty makes dudes hard. The poor of today is not like the poor of the past. Urban is not real poverty per se. Living in the rural south during 70s and 80s was rough. Third world poor. When I went to visit family in Detroit during the mids 80s it was different kind of poor. Like this guy said, there was crack buildings, boarded up houses, and dudes hanging out but all these dudes had to when they got hungry was run to the corner store with some stamps and pick up some food. In the rural south, we worked in the fields for food, there was no food stamps. It made us hard, but humble. I can't tell you how many thug ass cousins I had come from Detroit or Philly that couldn't last a day in the fields, hauling wood, throwing hay, or just working in general. They was good at shooting dice, but couldnt lift a slop bucket to save they soul. Down south was where you got some "act right". Down south you got your ass beat down for disrespect from old folks...times have changed.

    Man!! This brother is intelligent..just by his energy and how he carries himself you can tell he would be productive had he grown up in a healthy environment...the streets are taking toooo many of our good men who could be good fathers uncles leaders etc smdh

    • @Powerule23
      @Powerule23 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Max The streets aren't "taking" potentially good men; generally, parents who lack capacity to raise them properly are "handing" children to the streets. Yes, socioeconomic elements factor into the equation, however, a children born into "bad family" enters the world with strike one.

    • @Max-gn9tg
      @Max-gn9tg 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Powerule True but even good parents cant keep their kids from getting involved..which is why I said the streets are taking good ones..Either way..with one parent or two its still millions lost to the streets

    • @Powerule23
      @Powerule23 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Max While I agree that not all good parents can prevent their children from turning to the streets, "the streets" alone is not some indestructible magnet. I grew up in a very rough neighborhood in NYC during a time when crime was at an all time high. I got in trouble (locked up) as a teenager, however, I was "saved" by the older dudes in my neighborhood who wouldn't allow me to follow in their footsteps, not to mention the mentoring of my football coaches. So actually, in my case, and many other cases, strong black men serve as a barrier from the street life. My point being, if there are people in your life who put forth an effort in guiding you down the right path, more often than not, you can avoid the so called trappings of the streets.
      Also, many of these kids who turn to the streets suffer from mental and emotional issues that are typically addressed and monitored in stable and functional households.
      The vast majority of dudes who run the streets, whether gang banging, hustling, etc are products of fractured dysfunctional poor backgrounds. Most upper-middle and upper-class children who are products of stable and nurturing families don't turn to the streets. I was housed in a juvenile detention facility and estimate that 90% of the population were products of dysfunctional households and/or suffered from unattended emotional or mental issues. (I was a product of a dual parent household, but I didn't receive much guidance within my family). The repeat felons in my neighborhood wouldn't allow me to follow in their footsteps and told me if I ever got locked up again, I would have to deal with them first. They were persistent and extremely protecting.
      So, I disagree, the streets don't "take" our children. Typically, they are "handed" to the streets because they lack guidance and/or suffer from unattended mental or emotional issues.

    Much love and respect to the Brims, belize my niece is belize goes back and forth. My uncle is Harlem 30's. Grew up with a FTB tight, and I ended up becoming a blood later in life before leaving the gang life becoming a Israelite.
    What I don't understand is how a tight knitt relationship is kept between beliezians regardless of gang, they can "call" each other up go meet somewhere and talk things out, but the same brother had a speech on being "Kut". I love everyone and I support bringing everyone together regardless, but what he described maybe not in totality is a form of being kutt when you can go talk a brother on a fundemental level and see if a situation can be vendicate in private.
    Yet tell another black man African American with no other culture that they don't have that right. It's the case of a ethnic culture outside of the immediate African American culture who did not create this blood crip culture here attempting to establish rules or at the least support them and yet there is a sense of hyprocrisy. That's why I left the gang life because I always saw someone trying to control what I do, while would be damed if someone did the same to them. Black men need to reclaim their balls

      ***** Okay Im sure ill come back and type a huge as thing to you at some point but I need to keep this simple because im fucking tired of writing. But that's totally fucking perception based and depends on your own life, like im sure dudes intelligence helps him in his life all the fucking time.
      Also it's easy to say "just do something ells" if you're a dude who can't even in anyway identifie with the culture that he lives in because you have never had to experiance anything that he has in life, if you just happened to be born in his shoes im sure you wouldn't be fucking saving the world and you'd probably be doing the same shit.
      I am really trying to keep this short so the last thing I want to say is of course I want there to be peace in gang culture and I hope in the future more gangs start putting their minds to shit like making postive changes in their own communities EVER THOUGH there are a fuck ton of people who grew up in the gang life all over the country making massive efforts to help kids understand this shit isnt the way to go, and all sorts of other things so just think about that just fucking think about it thats it.

      Im sorry to be so rude but iv been writing about this shit all month for other things and im annoyed and dont feel like it for a bit but I get so compelled to try and show condescending ass people that they don't have to be cynical and by you being cynical you are not any better then the people you talk down on because you aren't doing a shit worth of anything positive by being cynical and not trying to properly understand why it is that specific demographics in america do the things they do and why it is that poverty exists.
      The shit you look down on doesn't excist because these group of people are stupid that's the laziest most apathetic way to think about shit so my advice to you is just start asking WHY things are the way they are and WHY people have to result to violence in their own communities and WHY people have to sell drugs to get by in surtain demographics because it is not in anyway because they're stupid or how you said "monkeys" get out of here with that shit..

You don't have to be mixed to be Creole but alot of us are a mixture. He gave constructive criticism and alot AAs are going off in the comment section, the truth hurts. Look what they did to Nipsey, as much as he try to help them liberate themselves. When he got killed you had hoteps saying he ain't black, after all he done. It's one thing to identify with AAs and the way of life here because we must adapt but to be mindful of how some may regard you, alot of us get caught in their rapture because living here we end up experiencing the same things.. They can be very nationalist and xenophobic towards foreign blacks and even their offspring who were born here. (1st gens)

    Exact reason I finally left LA.
    You’ll end up hurting somebody...
    They put so much pressure on you?
    it’s gonna explode into “someone”...
    That’s what they know and they don’t care.
    Got love for the hood
    but I hate Los Angeles now.
    Most racist corrupt the place I’ve ever been to!
