    Do you pack the backfill gravel at all or do you just fill them up and not pack down?

      Clean washed stone needs minimal compaction, but I would always recommend a small plate compactor within 3' of the back of wall, and heavy compactor to consolidate backfill beyond the 3' area.

    Are those caps strong enough to use anchors for a fence ?

      No you should never fasten a fence to capstone. There is an SRW product called SLEEVE-IT® or we recommend digging down behind the wall to install sauna tubes and fasten to concrete.

    Would filling the gap with just gravel to the top be ok? No mesh, just level gravel all the way to the top?

      The filter fabric keeps sediment from getting down into the clean stone. The clean stone is free draining so no moisture sits behind the wall. If fine sediments get into the area then it will hold moisture which could lead to potential failure of the wall. So I would recommend a fabric barrier. Also the gravel that is brought up against it make sure it pitches away from the wall that way most of your water sheds off away from the wall.

    Would you say it’s not necessary to lay the fabric from the very bottom of the wall? Just at the top like you showed in this example?

      That is my own preference but you want to go with the engineering specs. I just cap the top and stops the soils from migrating into the drainage field. There is a lot of controversy about this. We usually use a 4' roll on the top. You are welcome to call us about this anytime.

      It's better to run fabric over your setting bed and up to the top of the back slope to avoid washback. The top fabric as seen here is used because there is no back slope of soil to worry about. Soil separation is imperative.

    What about that wall that it backs onto? Damp?

    What about backfilling with closed cell foam...maybe some gravel on the bottom and then on the top?

      What do you mean in regards to a closed cell foam?

      Dow Blue Board on the entire back of the retaining wall will help reduce the possibility of freezing/expanding/pushing of the gravel/water/earth behind the retaining wall.

    Why is there a retaining wall in front of a building ?

    • @PaverToolInnovators
      @PaverToolInnovators  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a loading dock area for truck deliveries. This keeps all trucks away from the building as well as creates a nice planting bed to allow for a facelift of the building.

      Now trucks have to avoid the even closer wall lol I’m a delivery driver and if it were my decision I would have requested concrete pillars to protect the wall rather than a fancy retaining wall that is eventually going to be scraped by an inexperienced driver. But nice job on the wall. We did the same thing with the fabric over our stone (we are in sand country) and then the last tier at the top was filled with topsoil for planting. We did not have the fabric between the wall and the stone (readers: don’t ever do that) but we did put the fabric all along the backside of the stone where it meets the native soil and then folded it over the stone at the top to prevent soil from leaching down into the clear stone as you had indicated. Thank you for the video.
